Anjevi's first cruise

The first overnight cruise in my recently built SCAMP "Anjevi", in company with Chris in "Ysolde", the splendid Stornaway 18. We launch from Werribee River mouth on a sunny Autumn Monday, dodge the fishing boat traffic, and head off for a run down the coast round Wedge Spit, to a bumpy anchorage off Little River. I try out the Howard Rice boarding slings, then we race each other back to Werribee River on a lovely broad reach. We use our Torqeedo's for a peaceful run up river, to a peaceful overnight anchorage off the Island. The weather man now forecasts strong winds for the next day, so we get moving first thing, and Torqeedo back to the ramp. A good shake down cruise for the SCAMP, and great fun. What a lovely video. Boat sounds, wildlife sounds, even some older person sounds. Simple and sweet, love it. Now that's a great example the Scamps incredible stability, wow!

😆 Thanks Wayne. Yes, the older person sounds were a real bonus. 😊 Reboarding I discovered some muscles I did not know I had, and certainly have not used for a very long time. Look forward to our next sail.

Thankyou Holly. Yes, she feels like a proper little ship. Hard to describe, but there is something profoundly reassuring about the stability, and the cuddy, and the high coamings. Not like a dinghy at all, you sort of settle down comfortably in that cockpit and feel taken care of.

There are times when the bay is just perfect for some close in sailing. Did you know that the Werribee river used to be navigable right up into town. But then they built a weir up behind where the Italian Social Club is located to back up the river for the local farms. Your boat is a little beauty.

Monday was a lovely day to go sailing on the bay. Wish I went with the dolphin but still waiting on my brother to get something for it to finish it off.

Thanks Mark. Yes Monday was just about perfect sailing weather. The Bay in Autumn on a good day is hard to beat. Tell your brother to hurry up and get that Dolphin back out there!

Hi Paul, the SCAMP is from the brilliant New Zealand designer John Welsford. It was commissioned by Small Craft Advisor Magazine, and a number of very clever, experienced sailors have helped evolve the design. There is a very active Facebook group, and quite a community of people out there who have built them. Google "SCAMP boat". I got the plans from Duckworks, and the CNC file to cut the ply parts from Small Craft Advisor. Took me 10 months to build, an hour or three most days. It is indeed wonderfully stable and a joy to manage on the water, plus being light (round 200 kilos all up) and easy to manage retrieve, raise mast, rig .... it's a brilliant little boat, I am super happy with it!
