I think overall Ankalaev is the most likely bet to become champion at the end of all this but I DO think that Jamahal Hill has a really good chance of beating him compared to any other top LHW. So if I was Jamahal Hill, I would wait for Ankalaev to go first against Pereira and then take his shot against Ankalaev instead. This would also give him more time to recover from his injury not having to rush back for UFC 300.

Yeah Im a huge Alex fan, and it's true Magomed skills wise should be a more dangerous opponent for Poatan on paper, I actually think Hill would end up being the more difficult fight though. Magomed despite being a great grappler, seems to literally forget that he can wrestle sometimes and will stand and trade wih guys that he really shouldn't. Plus, above all, he's terrible at dealing with leg kicks while also not having the concrete jaw Hill has. I've seen him dropped before, not seen Hill come close to being dropped. Plus Hill is both a southpaw and an immensely more technically skilled striker and far better striking defense. If Alex makes it outa the first round with Magomed, let alone beyond that, the longer the fight goes on the more likely Alex gets the win, whether through winning the latter rounds or by getting a stoppage. With Hill, that should be brawl like no other - and could see either guy getting slept of tko'd at any point throughout the whole five round bout!

I agree this is an interesting situation and the triangle you have is probably right, but I'd posit that none of these other matchups are all that clear cut either. For Ankalaev vs Pereira, Ankalaev flat out forgets he can wrestle sometimes, and he's not an amazing wrestler either, but more importantly his leg kick defense is severely lacking against the caliber of Pereira. If he doesn't finish Pereira in the first, I can see the build up of leg kicks severely cripple him early. For Pereira vs Hill, his leg kick game is severely stiffled by a southpaw, which Hill is. He can do leg kicks with his left side too, but he can't do the invisible leg kick the way he normally does with his right leg, because he has to bring his planted leg, the right leg, forward to bring his base forward in order to kick the lead leg of a southpaw, which is basically impossible to mask the way he normally does. Of course, open stance consequently opens up the body kicks and head kicks more, but I think those are a far less assured weapon than Pereira's leg kicks. Pereira's boxing defense is also a concern, but since open stance matchups tend to take place at a slightly further range, that might be in Pereira's favor even.

I know what you are thinking, he will just single or double leg him to the fence but my counter point is that in the center alex has amazing distance management and hit so darn hard. You can't kick him without consequence and you don't wanna be in the pocket with that left hook. I would be money on Ankalaev winning but Alex has a perfect opportunity to win if he doesn't get tripped in the middle of the octogon or pushed to the cage. I honestly think Hill vs Alex is the much closer fight b/c Hill doesn't over extend unless he knows he is gonna smack the target hard. Also Hill is a southpaw which will make his movement give problems to Alex b/c it will be his first official Southpaw. All in all i think Ankalaev can only win against the fence while Hill can win anywhere; Alex wins both matches if he keeps the center of the octagon or backs them against the fence for the kill.

Ankalaev is a decent striker but he has some major holes Alex will exploit on the feet and unless Ankalaev is willing the cross the utter chaos "the void" presents with Alex he wont be able to the the takedown he needs to win. He can't out box Alex, he can't out kick Alex, It really depends on if Alex makes big mistakes whether or not Ankalaev wins. Such as if Alex body punches early then that can be taken advantage of. But if he fights "like Izzy does" he will be moving laterally after kicking; and then sit down on the punches as whoever crosses "the void" (the void is coined by mighty mouse and it is the perfect term)
