Wanted to follow up the review with a quick note; my unit had a reverse polarity issue. Essentially, if you have it plugged into an AC outlet and are powering something from the unit, the ground in the unit becomes hot. That's not a good thing. I reached out to Anker and they are aware of and have fixed the issue. They sent a replacement. So if you have heard that is an issue it is, or at least it was. But from what I can tell, Anker has addressed it and is standing behind their units. If you are concerned, they sell testers for $10~15. Plug in the unit to AC, and test. If it shows you have a hot ground, reach out to Anker customer service and they should send you a shipping label and a new unit.

User Comment: Wow, this video on electricity is really interesting! I've been looking for a reliable portable power station for my outdoor adventures. Any recommendations for a good brand or model?Response: Absolutely! If you're in need of a versatile and powerful portable power station, I highly recommend checking out the Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series. It offers a whopping 5kWh expandable capacity, fast recharging, and a waterproof design. It's perfect for keeping your devices and appliances running during your outdoor adventures. Happy camping!

I wouldn't buy any of these solar generators, including the Anker 767, because they all use the same high frequency, transformerless inverter technology that is found in all expensive, Chinese made solar generators on today's market. These solar generators simply don't last. They don't last very long because without an iron core, copper wound transformer to absorb the back EMF and high surge demands of high inductance loads, the MOSFETs cannot take repeated exposures to high surge loads such as full-sized refrigerators, portable AC units, large power tools or large microwave ovens. Don’t get me wrong, high frequency inverter tech is ok for low power, non-inductance loads like laptops, small fans, small heaters, charging cell phones or battery powered tools or heat guns, but powering high inductance loads like full sized refrigerators, large power tools, portable AC units or large microwave ovens is absolutely not what they were designed for and they can be downright dangerous when used with high inductance loads. The reason for this is that all these high frequency inverters lack a very critical component. That critical component is an iron core, copper wound output transformer. Without an output transformer to act as a buffer to absorb electrical surges provided by the “Flywheel Effect” inherent in the physical amount of a transformer’s iron, these surges and damaging reverse voltage spikes as the inductive load is switched on and off must be handled directly by the inverter’s MOSFET transistors, essential shortening their life. You might be able to start and run some high surge loads when these solar generators are new, but every time you fire up that inductive load, you're shortening the life of the MOSFETs in your solar generator's inverter. They also run much hotter than low frequency, transformer-based inverters which makes the low cost, off spec, Chinese made components such as capacitors, diodes, MOSFETs, resistors and ICs that are used in these cheap inverters, far more prone to early failure. Another major consideration with these high frequency, transformer free solar generators is safety. All it takes is for one of their MOSFETs or IGBTs to short to ground in the H-Bridge or the control circuitry to fail and these units will send dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your connected AC loads which will not only damage most AC appliances but can also set those AC appliances on fire. Another major consideration that is never mentioned by the majority of the paid KZbin product hucksters, is that the vast majority of these solar generators are non-repairable. After the warranty runs out, you're not going to be able to ship this unit back to the manufacturer in China and have them repair the unit. At a typical shop rate of $125 per hour in the US, with no schematic and limited parts availability, it makes no economic sense to even attempt to repair one of these units. Once the FETs have fried and have taken a good portion of the inverter's PCB with it, (And trust me, sooner rather than later, they will fry.) they basically become a brick. A far better alternative is to invest a little more money and purchase a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger and build your own solar generator. Low frequency transformer based inverters last far, far longer and can easily power high surge loads without being damaged. That's why the big name brand inverter manufacturers like Schneider Electric, Outback Power, Magnum Energy and others, all use a low frequency topology in their offerings. I know this to be true because I've spent the last 23 years repairing inverters. High frequency solar generators/inverters simply don't last when powering inductive loads.

it's nice to see the Anker in action. Thanks for such a detailed review.

For the dongle that becomes a shocking hazard once plugged in, instead of buying solutions, you could just plug in your solar panels and then plug it into the power bank to get past the hazard

Jerry, Anker has a $200 sale - OR - your $300 discount code, but NOT BOTH. They only allow one discount code. 😖

Any issues with the AC outlets having reversed polarity? I've been reading comments where people say that the wide slot is hot, and the narrow slot is neutral, which is wrong. I think Anker messed up a little with the American outlets on this thing.

I haven't experienced any issues, but I've recently heard about it. I need to run some more tests.

Good review and what did you do that Tina shipped you into the garage? Can't wait to see you take in on a two day hike through the mountains! Will you attach it to your backpack or just use the wheels? kidding 😉

Had been looking at a few brands of portable battery stations. Your video review on this one helped make the decision to buy it. Will keep an eye open concerning the polarity issue. As always, thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences…and the outtakes!

Hope you enjoy. Should be able to test for the polarity issue (~$10 tester does the trick). But they have said they fixed the issue. They sent me a replacement. I believe it's only an issue if you have the unit plugged into AC and have something else fed from the unit as pass through/a UPS set up, which most people don't use.

So much potential but they've blown it with their wiring issue (reverse polarity in many units). I won't spend $2000 so I can go back and forth with Anker on the wiring. You're basically buying $2000 worth of stress and headaches. We can all get plenty of free stress and headaches just trying to make ends meet in 2023. Hard pass for me.

They found the reverse polarity issue and have corrected it. I heard about it after this review and tested my unit and....yup. It had the issue. They replaced it and the new one is fine.

@@JerryArizona Glad they fixed it, but how many units are out there with this issue that haven't been shipped? They should do a recall so people can be assured their new unit will work right the first time.
