So glad AKB is getting her flowers after all these years! I feel like this is the most I have ever heard her speak and I am loving it. What a cool person.

I really love AKB, so happy she is at Gotham and Jess was able to join as well. AKB is so strong, insightful and amazing to hear about her journey. Best wishes to her.

Ok! Now I love Ann more than I did before and I already loved her a lot. I hope she writes a memoir one day and I hope she creates a podcast of her own too. Her story is phenomenal and her way of telling it is hypnotizing because of her reflective and introspective descriptions. And as always, Sam did a great job of interviewing with thoughtful questions. This is my favorite episode yet. FYI- I'm a USWNT fan, New Yorker, Gotham fan and AKB fan too.

You commented that when Ann was talking about her cancer you forgot you were recording. I think one of the things that you do soooo well is you truly listen to the people that you are interviewing. You are friends having a chat. You ask additional questions that many people wouldn't. Those questions often end up in really meaningful answers. You are a delight to listen to because you obviously care about the people you are talking with and it makes for a much more interesting and sometimes emotional moments. Thanks

Thank you Sam for this interview. It showed me the person behind the pitch. Strange thing is that such an interview in Germany doesn't exist. So I had to go to your channel to learn more about this great person. Main reason is, because it's VERY LONG ago that she played in Germany and nobody knew her profoundly before the Olympics. So most of the people were estonished when Horst Hrubesch selected her for Number 1 in the tournament. Meanwhile the Kicker (German Football magazine) elected her for the German player of the year due to her impeccable play in the Olympics. For a goalie this is even in Germany - with a long history of phantastic keepers - a very rare award. I'd wish more German players could come to play at the NWSL to see the different game you have. I guess it was in the past very physical - and still is. Since the CL was introduced in Europe, we got more competitive this way. But concerning speed of the attacking players there ist still a gap. However, European style was always very tactical and position play. Fortunatelly this wasn't lost by the CL. How competitive this is you could have seen with the Barcelona tour in the U.S. - partly humiliating results. Guess you also have to adapt to the future as everybody does. And you have selected golden Emma Hayes to help you out with. ps.: should have a look what a Phillie Cheesesteak is 😃

Hallo Eckhard, gibt solche Interviews bei uns. Allerdings nicht so hochkarätig. ZB bei AUSDEMFF.

I wondered if there were more interviews of AKB in German social media but I wouldn't be able to understand them anyway cause I don't speak German. It does seem you are saying more interviews with her do not exist. I do like learning about her.

@@tjeanav European football clubs (including those on the pirate islands) produce a lot of fun- & training vids for the fans. Type Berger's name in searching machines or Jess Carter.
@eckhardkern67484 ай бұрын
@@tjeanav me too, me too 💖 Take it as a hint - she left Germany years ago to England, guess even before WSL was founded. She never came back and changed from there - as you know - to NWSL. I even remember a (German) press conference before the Olympics with her on stage where she asked if she could reply towards an English speaking reporter if she might give the answer back in English "because for her this was easier". 😄 She got my respect on this. Thus if you search for content you possibly will find more in British media - which you have no problems with (I guess 😇).

Wow, that was one of the best interviews I ever saw/heard...! Anne is such a nice, humble and funny person + a real warrior! There were so many great and interesting aspects in that talk, it's hard to get them in their complexity. I got totally emotional and I think Anne can be a perfect role model for young people, especially girls, and even more football playing girls! Not to forget that you, Sam, did also a great job as the interviewer! Wow, just wow.... 👏🙏

Great interview. As a German citizen and soccer fan, I'm very happy for this talk. In September and October I visit Nashville and New York for two weeks. And one important appointment is to see AKB live on October 5th. And hopefully Ali, because I have a old 1.FFC Frankfurt jersey with her name.

I love all these Friendlies, and this was probably the best one yet. I'm not ashamed to say that I was in tears several times during the interview. I love women's football and a lot of other sports, but they are just a bit of fun and distraction from the real world. When she was talking about her diagnosis and treatment, sport just seemed completely trivial. I found everything she said scary as hell, but also totally uplifting through her positivity. I wish her and Jess all the best. Good people deserve to have good things happen to them.

Hello Sam. I was used to watching Ann-Katrin in the UCL, so it still seems strange seeing her at Gotham. From seeing her before, the games at the Olympics where she starred were no surprise. Another great chat. The character to face up to illness that way was impressive. It left me wishing you could find a surgeon for your injury, but in truth you are so good at this new job, did it happen for a reason?

Beating cancer twice? Gotta get a few to catch up with me. Still, I'm not a world class athlete. Congrats on working through them and remaining at that high a level. Her discussion of lymph nodes made me laugh. I remember, with my first one, I didn't feel bad at all. At a regular, annual, checkup, my physician asked how long my lymph nodes were large. I responded "what lymph nodes"? I was very aware 🤣.
