One of the finest lyricist in Malayalam cinema. He would have definitely climbed greater heights in his career, if he was not an outspoken. When you say something outright, even if it is true, you invite your enemies. I think this is one of the reasons for his late recognition. He won the Kerala State Award after he had completed 50 years in Malayalam Cinema. Would you believe this?

Mr. Srikumaran Thampi , the veteran lyricist and director of the Malayalam film industry speaks out about his musical journey , his bondage with musician's in the like of late Shri. Devarajan Master, Arjunan Master and late Shri. Baburaj and also about late P.Bhaskaran , whom he consider as his guru and the one who influenced him a lot. When asked about his proximity with late Jayan, Mr. Thampi makes clear that he was so close with Jayan, both were like brothers and all decision making were carried out by Jayan after due consultations with Mr. Thampi. At the time Jayan's accidental death , Thampi had five films with Jayan as the hero, but all those films had to be shelved due to Jayan's absence. as Thampi did not wanted to continue with those projects with some other hero in place of Jayan. Such was the influence Jayan had in Thampi's personal life.

തമ്പിയദ്ദേഹം ചില നഷ്ടബോധങ്ങൾ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടുന്നല്ലോ. നല്ല പടങ്ങൾ എടുക്കുന്ന വർ എന്നെ ക്ഷണിക്കാറില്ലാന്നൊക്കെ. അങ്ങിനെ ഒരു നഷ്ട ബോധത്തിന്റെയോ നിരാശയുടെ യോ ആവശ്യം ലവലേശം ഇല്ല. കാരണം . സിനിമ ആനുകാലികമാണ്. എന്നാൽ പാട്ടുകൾ ലോകാവസാനം വരെയും . " അനുമോദനത്തിന്റെ പൂച്ചെണ്ടുകൾ " ഈ പാട്ട് ഞാൻ 20 - വയസിൽ കേട്ടതിനേക്കാൾ ഇഷ്ടത്തോടെ ഇന്ന് 51- വയസിൽ കേൾക്കുന്നു. പാട്ടുകൾക്ക് മരണമില്ല!
