People need to stop judging this film with 2013 standards. It was made in 1946. It still has a story to tell and has some great performances. Enjoy it for what it is.

I remember being called into the house by my grandmother to watch this film on a hot summer afternoon when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I kept wondering where the Technicolor and singing and dancing were. Most of all, I couldn't figure out why the King of Siam wasn't played by a bald headed man and why Anna wasn't played by a buxom gal with lots of cleavage. LOL. Little did I know that my granny was watching it because of she was a diehard Irene Dunne fan. Miss Dunne, for as slight and delicate as she was, could act circles around the best of them--proof positive here as she goes up against Rex Harrison's male chauvinist par excellence.

How ironic Linda Darnel's character in this film is burned ,and she actually dies in a house fire in real life. What a horrible way to go. Poor woman.

Lucky Anna was not around during the time of Cleopatra and Juliet Cesar..., she could have told the world she was the one recommending Cesar to go for Cleopatra. And Cesar cried cried cried becoz the love between him and Anna was impossible. May be she could have told the world she was the one initiating the pyramid concept. If she was alive today, she could write something like...oh I was on the plane that would hit world trade center, and I tried to save everyone. Somehow I pressed some button, and the next thing I knew I was on my own bed.....????.....!!!! U see this movie was not about the King of Siam, but was about Anna being the center of the whole damn world.

I think this was based from a true story bc The King was writing a letter to Abraham Lincoln about sending him gifts such as Elephants etc.

Actually there are four versions. There was a really horrible cartoon that came out about the same time as the Jodie Foster movie. It'll make the Jodie Foster movie look good.

That was actually Rodgers and Hammerstein's version. The shaven head was smart - he was balding, and it wasn't a good look, so....
