Yes it is ridiculous, and yes Anna believes it. She is not a smart woman and she is obviously easily misled. She's been in a cult from birth and this cult treats their children with brutal beatings. I'm sure she was beaten repeatedly as a child. It's part of their belief system. They follow a book called "How to Train Up A Child." It recommends beatings with plumber piping from the hardware store. All the cult members used that book as a guide to raising their kids. This alone would mess up a kid's mind. So Anna is seriously mentally unwell and she no doubt truly unequivocally believes in her headship Josh's innocence.

Years ago, when I was still in fundamentalism, I knew a woman in a similar situation. She found out that her husband was molesting multiple kids including their own children. We attended the same IFB church. The church didn't want her to take the issue to the police, but she did. She even testified against him in his trial. The church offered her financial support *if* she didn't divorce him. She did divorce him and was shunned by the whole church. She lost her extended family, friends, church, and because it was fundamentalism that was basically her whole community. She was left to take care of a house full of kids by herself while fighting breast cancer. And she was abandoned by just about everyone she knew. BUT she protected those kids. She never spoke to her ex again and told the kids they didn't have to either. I still hear her name dragged through the mud by local religious people for not "standing by her man" over a decade later. I don't think Jim Bob will be supportive if Anna leaves Josh. Solely based on my experiences with how fundamentalist men behave and what they expect from women. But leaving Josh is still the right thing for Anna to do to protect those kids.

What people need to understand about what Josh did, is that viewing that type of material is the same as committing those acts. He is helping create a market for people to continue to produce this stuff which makes him just as guilty as if he was actually doing it. I do not think people like Josh can be helped. Out of the 7 kids she and Josh have 4 of them are girls. If he could do what he's done to his sisters then I know damn well he's capable and willing to do it to the girls. Some of Anna's siblings have gotten out of the religion and they've offered to help her leave and get on her feet. She's always known what he is. She needs to lose custody and the kids need to be taken away from the Duggars grasp.

My best friend stayed with her physically abusive husband "until the kids were grown" for the SAKE of her children. She wound up with a son who hits women & a daughter who has had a string of toxic & abusive relationships. Even though her children were not abused by their father, the atmosphere they were raised in took a terrible toll on them & will likely affect them for the rest of their lives. When you make the unacceptable acceptable, it becomes normal, the expectation even. Children learn from their parents. Be careful what you teach them by example. Do as I say, not as I do simply doesn't work. Conversely, my grandmother left her abusive, alcoholic husband in 1948 with three small children in tow. This was practically unheard of at that time. She married my grandfather (a saint of a man, from Arkansas, btw) 2 years later. Both of her daughters had long & stable marriages. Her son, unfortunately, was killed in Vietnam at the age of 21. It wasn't an easy decision for her, & life was tough for her & her kids for a brief time, but it paid off in the long run. The right thing to do is rarely the easiest path to choose.

Divorce can really suck when it’s happening in the moment, but so many lives can and have been saved by people separating instead of allowing things to escalate! Even if there isn’t physical abuse, having that time apart can improve everyone’s relationships sometimes. Some of my divorced family gets along better now that they aren’t together “for the kids”

I left an abusive marriage and ended up finding love with a guy I worked with when I was trying to make it as a single mom. He was the best thing to ever happened to me. I consciously decided to break the cycle of generational abuse and ended up with an amazing supportive spouse and my two oldest kids got an amazing Dad and we added two children to our family. I am so glad I made the decision to walk and to end the cycle of abuse. It’s completely possible! Scary but possible!

My whole childhood was extremely traumatic and the past 4 years I've finally spent out from under my family's roof has really shown me how traumatic it was. I've had to relearn everything I ever knew I've spent tons and tons of time in therapy just trying to comprehend it. I feel so bad for those kids

It’s insane; Anna is the ultimate fan girl. This was obvious in the early Duggar footage, of when she and josh were courting. Her physical reaction to him and being in his presence was akin to that of a typical American tween fawning over her favorite rock star. Sadly, it seems like she never matured much from that. Even after as long as they’ve been married, she stares up at him with so much AWE, it’s frightening. Just thinking about it, makes my stomach hurt. Can you imagine what a tween, fan girl would be willing to do to please her rockstar crush?!!? Now imagine what Anna has done and is willing to do to please this monster. My heart hurts for their kids. I hope the worst they’ve ever suffered is just having these 2 monsters as parents; I hope they haven’t been subjected to anything else themselves. Having everyone around you know that not only did your father commit these acts, but your mother supported him and let him back in the house with you, would be a special kind of torment. She is brainwashed and programmed from birth to see her dad and later her husband as her headship and her leader. Total submission by the women is required in this cult. She is no doubt being constantly told by the cult leaders that Josh is innocent and that he is being persecuted. She truly thinks he didn't do it. They are probably telling her she is a hero for standing by her man even as he is being nailed to the cross. They are certainly reminding her that josh is her leader and their marriage is a covenant. If she leaves she will be shunned by everyone. Also, Anna lives in a warehouse type of building in Jimbob and Michelle's backyard. Jimbob is a controlling, scary man and there are rumors that he rages on people and threatens them. Jimbob also manages all the money. He told Derrick (Jill's husband) that the TV show didn't pay any money and they were doing it to minister to people, lol. Derrick said he initially actually believed him. In reality jimbob was keeping ALL the money from the show. None of the kids got a dime and Jill had to sue him. So Anna is probably terrified of Jimbob. She is not only being constantly told that Josh is innocent, but is also most likely being threatened by JimBob and other cult elders and financially controlled. It's a very bad situation.

I understand her viewpoint 100%. I literally had to fight those impulses in one of my jobs, but as someone who volunteered at a women's shelter for 5 years, I can say these comments are lobbied at victims of abuse all the time. Victims are always shamed and asked why did they stay... and unfortunately this often drives them back to their abusive relationship looking to flee from being shamed. I do think its ok to say that you dont know everything. We understand & sympathize as a society with victims of Stockholm syndrome and abusive relationships. We understand how they can trap women both psychologically & financially & yes those women stay with "children" too. I guess my background influences my thinking. Its up to the legal system to help those children because Anna herself is a victim and may be incapable of breaking free from that role. My 2 cents. I'll brace for impact 😨

But no, I never said anyone who thinks differently from someone else is evil and I don't think that way. Just when it comes to the points made in this particular video, if you don't agree, then there is something very wrong. Of course there are other things going on that we don't know about, and maybe never will. That's obvious when you're dealing with any human being. But based on all available evidence, nothing she said in the video should be seen as "wrong" unless you're okay with hurting kids, or keeping kids in a harmful environment.

I know she has been raised in this and has such limited education in all areas of life, I really do get that. And if no one has stepped in to offer her a way out, then that's horrible too, bc she has many people around her who aren't family who are just regular people, like lawyers, cops, TV production staff, etc etc.. she needs a lot of help. But I do feel like at some point her adult mother mind has got to click on and say that something is very wrong here, and she needs to be a responsible mother, also responsible for herself. At some point, if something happens to those kids, it's going to be her fault bc she just let it happen when she had every chance to save them, but didn't. I hope she gets it soon.

I really don't think anyone supports Anna's decision to stay with him. Many of us can see that Anna is a brainwashed woman who isn't very bright and is just continuing to do what her cult tells her to do. Also we should remember that jimbob is a very vindictive man and he wields his power over his kids and anyone else he can manipulate. She's probably afraid of him. I've heard he rages and threatens people...and she and her seven kids are living in his backyard, completely under his "authority" as their cult calls it. I bet it's terrifying for her. Her parents are not going to support her either because they are in the same cult. So I think what you're interpreting as "support" for Anna staying is really just people explaining why Anna might be staying. We know it's wrong. I believe all of us know that.

I wholeheartedly wish there was a way to get through to her and not just punish Josh for what he had done but everyone who covered it up. I wish the FBI could get in and get evidence of the crimes so the all the victims get justice even if indirectly because of the statute of limitations. This is also why I feel that independent educators are required to do regular testing of homeschooled children to make sure that they are meeting the requirements of children in public schools education wise. Like can they pass history, math, English, real world skills (balancing a check book.. I had this taught as part of a life skills class)

I'm the child of an abusive father my mother stayed with because we needed the money. (Severe emotional abuse) She had 3 kids, 1 which was special needs and there just wasn't help for special needs kids in the 90s. I wish she had left then instead of years later. I don't blame her for it, but I deal with the emotional scars almost every day. KEEP KIDS AWAY FROM ABUSERS. PERIOD. People would be tripping over themselves to give her money if she decided to leave, but she is putting God above her children. Is she damaged? Yes, but she is an adult.

She isn't putting God above her children. She's putting something else above God. Take it from someone who's been through abusive relationships and an abusive birth mother. God would want her to do the right thing, and it's apparent the Duggars (the majority, that is) don't know what the right thing is. Take the case of Naghmeh Panahi, who did much to get her husband out of Iran, only for her to finally come to terms with abuse she was being silent about. Now, she's divorced and raising two kids alone. But, it's not easy, especially with how she's exposing how entire denominations are covering up or denying abuse like this exists. God isn't the problem here. The problem is Anna hears God's voice, but is afraid to listen and take heed. She is like many in abuse.

TBH, my concern is that she may not have a choice. Her parents are also pushing her to support her husband no matter what. But also, doesn't Jim Bob control the money in the family? Would she be able to leave? I know she has her brother's offer to help but would it be enough? I can see the Duggars suing Anna for custody of the children and with no support for her, would she be able to withstand that? I'm not justifying or defending her. I'm just wondering if those are issues. But also, you don't need to divorce to just leave.

I'm with you on this. As a survivor of Munchausen Syndrome by proxy, I can relate to having all of your resources controlled as an adult & genuinely having nowhere to go without the abuser. I can't imagine that with soooo many kids (none here). Anna likely will lose most of both sides of her family & essentially her entire support system if she leaves Josh. If she's being heavily monitored at the Duggar compound, Anna may not actually have a safe way to make a plan & get out. Planning an escape with 7 kids & keeping it secret may be next to impossible. I don't know that we've given her enough ti.e to figure out what her options are. Her situation sucks. She made be out of the fog more than she shows publicly, but I can think of literally no way for her to escape.

Even if those kids never find out about their fathers actions and he never does anything to them, they will still grow up scarred. My uncle SA'd my cousin (who everyone said I looked like btw, terrifying) and my mother STILL allowed me around him my entire childhood. Mind you he never faced consequences for his actions because when my cousin told her mom, she was punished for it. I NEVER knew about this until I was 15 but i ALWAYS felt unsafe around him. No one told me until I was 15 but I still grew up scared of him. Then at age 18 I found out my father(his brother) was arrested for trying to touch a minor (she was 15 and he was like 30 and very drunk) so not only did that shatter my childhood, but it made me lose complete trust in any adult in my life for allowing me to be around either of them. I had no knowledge until adulthood and neither of them did anything to me but I did not come out unharmed. Also just based on the severity the situation with Josh Duggar is, i don't trust that he wont do something to them. And statically speaking, I am an outlier. Getting out of that situation without being apart of it is not common at all and it disgusts me that shes willing to take that chance with her kids. At this point I domt feel like shes innocent in all this, I cant excuse her behavior anymore but those kids are innocent and my heart hurts for them. They deserve someone who will fight for them.

I can be sympathetic to the fact that she was groomed and is more than likely still currently being manipulated BUT it doesn’t excuse her actions. There is absolutely zero reason I can think of that would benefit her children if she stays with him and allows him around those children. The problem has been addressed but it has been addressed sooo improperly that it’s just continued to escalate to josh doing more and more things. I completely agree with you. Like I said I can have some sympathy for her but it’s highly upsetting to see that she is okay with continuing to endanger her children.

I was in a relationship with someone who got arrested for the same thing that Josh did. I didn’t know that was happening. I was lucky to not have kids. But I fully relate to finding out you’re in love with a monster. Knowing the person you’ve already formed a bond with did something like that doesn’t just make that bond go away in a snap. As far as is known his kids weren’t involved so Anna isn’t going to see him as a danger to them, they are his kids and she probably doesn’t believe he would hurt his own kids.

You don’t know why she stays and you shouldn’t assume you do. She may be a terrible person and mother, she may be staying for awful reasons or she maybe staying to save her and her childrens life. if he made whose threat and she stays, she's even more at fault. she needs to take actions to protect the children. I work in CPS in Canada and when we have victims of domestic abuse, yes, we have compassion for the victims BUT we take their kids if they let them be abused or be in contact with an abuser. while he's in jail, she can and should get help because if he was comfortable enough to sexually abuse hes sisters, he's daughters are at risk too.

To me she told a nonverbal story of a woman who was holding onto her life until she walked in to a world of truth and was shocked and devastated by it. She was then made to hold his hand as abuse victims are often made to hold their husbands hands. He is obviously antisocial. To enjoy hurting babies, you can’t talk me out of that, so what makes you think there’s not immense physical and psychological abuse going on that would completely isolate and contain her? He told her he loved her at the end and she gave him nothing. Just stoicism. No desperate tears, just a Bye Felicia energy. In the last month from jail he’s called her 60 times. I have to wonder if he’s losing control over her. If you know anything about abusers, it is when they can’t control their victim anymore and can’t damage them that they ramp up the pleas, the hounding, their presence. Something just tells me she’s on her way out and it’s probably because she talked to the kids. With Covenant Eyes, it’s pretty clear she trusts but verifies.

I was sa in my ex's house. His friends all did it. And ran to him after saying that I was cheating. The guys who were 30 year old. Did this to other girls as well, most of them all 16.....and we tried telling the cops...no one is helping. These guys are taking 16 year old girls out of state to live with he guys who did harrassment, groom, and worse to these girls. And ex was 22 years old. And he was having an affair on me with a 16 year old. And when I told him what his friends did, he broke up with me......
