To give you some examples...You can't show you are happy. If they see you are happy, then more work is given to you...a feeling that only if an employee visibly suffers then those employees are highlighted/rewarded...employees who say "no" get targeted...its like they suck your soul out of you...when I put down my papers, my boss threatened I couldn't take even 1 day leave and if I take 1 day off, he will add it to my notice period...but later I went through company policy and found out an employee is entitled to 2 days sick leave per month during notice period...to be honest, if workload is more, it's OK with me, I can work but toxicity, hooliganism, harassment, unnecessary rudeness..etc is something too much...Workplace is where there should be encouragement, positive vibes, friendship, valuing opinins etc...I am glad that Gen Z is taking this up aggressively and fighting this.

Must Read story of EY: My friend, who’s like a brother to me, got hired at EY in 2022 but quit after 6 months. The job was completely different from the JD he applied for, and the office politics were beyond toxic. He was stuck charging two codes-one of which was purely for show, and the other had the most ridiculous politics he's ever seen in his 10+ years of experience. Turns out, he was made to do the work of a woman from another team who was actually his boss's wife! His boss assigned her all his work so she could relax, while my friend was stuck picking up the slack. This whole experience crushed him mentally-his work-life balance disappeared, and it drove him into a deep, depressive rut. His life became hell. The worst corporate backdoor move I’ve ever heard of. EY really outdid themselves with this one.

Hats off to Kunal and Aashi for being vocal about it on social media & being able to deal with these extreme toxic situations. It’s an eye opener for everyone to not keep suffering and raise voice against it and leave such toxic culture/place. Ultimately, there are bad and good people everywhere so there is nothing really an employee can do about it except leaving. One should identify the red flag initially as soon as it first happens and rebel so that his/her suffering can’t be taken for granted by any senior employee. Senior people thinks that they have done it in past so it is normalised.

Toxic managers are the problem yes. but organisations and HR departments that allow toxic managers to grow and protect them are more toxic. that is the biggest problem. Why don't employees feel safe to speak up? because organisation processes and practices - what materializes on the ground is toxic.

I left for America after graduating from college in India, and worked as the only minority immigrant (thanks to being in a non IT field). I'm truly blessed have so much autonomy and respect(at least in my case). The responsibilities are many. There are deadlines and expectations. People work hard. But I have never had to wait for my boss to leave before leaving myself. I never had to explain 'why' I needed to take off . My bosses (all of them Americans) have always been fair, even handed - and never asked me to do something they couldn't do themselves. They encourage different opinions- and I can be open and frank. Even 2 decades later- my work life is challenging but going to work still feels nice and fun. And my time off is sacred- not once do I get a phone call off work. I fully empathize with the situation faced by these young and brilliant people in the Indian corporate world. A toxic atmosphere at work, and workplace bullying needs to be fought. It can happen anywhere, in any country- but seems much worse in Asia

HR in India often feels like the most spineless piece here. While managers can be harsh and lack empathy, you’d expect HR to step up and provide support. Instead, HR often acts like “Inhuman Resources,” doing little more than following orders. They don’t use their own judgment or stand up for employees; instead, they merely echo whatever the managers dictate. It’s disheartening to see such a crucial part of the corporate structure reduced to mere followers without any backbone.

These types of podcasts are much needed for the people who are at the beginning of their journey in the big organization. They aren't aware about these blame game and favoritism. Thanks once again hoping to see more podcasts like this .

Its great to see many professional coming out in open to protest against the toxic culture. If Anna was not the only victim...that means there were many who were victims and had to die or commit suicide?? We need to get those names too.

I agree there’s work pressure in all companies but these snow flakes sound more like complaint Box, especially that gay sounding loser working with EY. These youngsters belong to their dad’s business. Dood ke dhule hue bache😂 inki galti hi nhi h?

Many many inconsistencies and hyperbole in this conversation. Of course no one denying the toxic and overwork culture in BIG 4 and TOP 3. 1. For the guy- Someone worked 3 years as article and 2 years post qualification couldn't understand toxic culture. By the way working 2 years in big 4 and moving to corporate is very standard practice, don't know why he is blaming toxic culture for his resignation! 2. Top 3 consulting companies hire CA for advisory and back office work. Like consultants you have to work hard without much advancements in career. I don't understand why a CA work for Mckinsey FP&A (Nightshift is clearly back office). Wrong choice! 3. Compensation off is definitely there, if you haven't got comp off then you have issues with manager. 4. Managers in investment bank, BIG 4 and Top 3 consulting are aggressive. People fall in line intentionally there to be part of their courtrie. Famous word in BCG...if you cant take the heat get out of house. 5. Tier 2 employee is very well known concept in Top 3. HR department clearly tells during induction. 6. How can someone go into PIP after probation. PIP can happen for an employee who has a confirmed job (meaning post probation). If some one is not able to manage probation period it means two things a. serious performance issues or camaraderie issues b. over hiring by firm (it happens some time). Many things just don't add up! Exaggerated views from two wrong samples, its actually offence to the girl/lady ; who actually passed away; wrong comparison.

The issue in Audit domain in India is that the teams are deliberately kept understaffed to extract more and more profits. I worked in KPMG for 4 years and my experience was the same.

Same for tax. Everywhere the manager behaves like he is God & he owns the company & he owns us. ... What a delution with just a little bit of power
@saptarishichatterjee9788Ай бұрын
I agree absolutely that such behaviours are team and manager specific....there is a popular saying in corporate "PEOPLE QUIT MANAGERS, NOT THE COMPANY"
