Hi (again) @AnnaGoldmanTravel. Being from Harstad I would suggest a travel to Harstad, Vesterålen and Lofoten. There are whale safari that you can join. Visit Vesterålen have booking page online. You can visit the Adolf cannon on Trondenes fort from WWII, you can learn about Thorir the Hound from Bjarkøy (the viking chieftain that slew King Olav the Holy in the Battle for Stiklestad), You can visit the very old Trondenes Church from the 11th century. You should try renting a Lofoten Rorbu Lodge, they are iconic tourist lodging. If you go to Lofoten make sure to visit the Viking Museum in Borg called Lofotr. If you go between Henningsvær and Svolvær, there is an aquarium close to Kabelvåg that might be interesting. But as you know Lofoten, Vesterålen and Andenes are famous for the Hiking. Bring a tent and a fishing pole, you might love sleeping outdoors on a good summers night, and try your luck at catching trouts. There might be opportunities to join a fishing trip at sea for the best Cod you have ever tasted (must be simmered within 2-3 hours of fishing). If you ever visit Harstad, hit me up, I would love to shake your hand. You're the biggest Norwegian patriot I've ever come across. :)

Anna, you should travel to the second largest city in northern Norway, Bodø. The capital of the Nordland county in Norway. From Bodø you can also visit the Lofoten Islands just beyond the fjord with a ferry from Bodø, and you can also see the nearby ''Saltstraumen'' just outside of the city, it's the worlds strongest maelstrom/whirlpool tidal current. Bodø is also the European Capital of Culture in 2024, and their home team Bodø/Glimt have won the football national series two years in a row.

Regarding seeing the northern light: Firstly it must be dark. Secondly it must not be cloudy. Thirdly it must be atmospheric conditons that create a northern light - among them bursts from the sun. Similar to winning LOTTO?

When I was a kid up here, we used to at school have to go up the mountain near here to try and see the first sun of the year, if it was weather ofcourse... and once we saw the sun we used to get the rest of the school day off :-) we called it Solfri, and even today the kindergarden here home (Not living in Kirkenes but further north) the kindergarden use to mark the last day of the sun and the first day of the sun with some colored icelights ... they freeze some color water down and place them at the Sentrum of the town. They also hang up their own suns they have made of various materials ... at some stores... to celebrate the return of the sun.

Well..... when you shall correct someone or something it is good to know what you are talking about.... Your "information" need to be more accurate. No one would find Kirkenes if they should navigate according to your position information. Kirkenes centre is actually further NORTH than Tromsø centre. The difference isn't much. It is around 0,05 latitude degrees further north, which means just over 5 kilometer. Your east position for Kirkenes is way off.... The difference between Oslo centre and Kirkenes centre is 19,75 longitude degrees, which means that the sun will stand in south just over 1 hour 17 minutes earlier in Kirkenes than in Oslo. The time zones is normally given with one hour difference, so therefor Kirkenes would end up in a time zone which is 1 hour before Oslo ....not 2 hours as you say. Kirkenes is quite close to be east of everything in Finland, as you say, except around 5000 sq. km in the Finnish Karelia - which stretches further east .... that makes up around 1,5 % of the total area of the country. ... So your score this time wasn't much to write home about......
@tessjuel

I used to live in Finnmark and I still tend to think of Kirkenes as way down south. ;-) It's a lovely town though and well worth visiting.

Hi Anna, I lived in Alaska for five years while studying at the university there; and so, I remember arctic conditions very well. I do nature photography, and since you asked what activity to perhaps show in a future episode, why not make an episode where you travel to an arctic location to photograph fauna (moose, eagles, esc.) and landscapes? You could perhaps do a three-day excursion somewhere with a Norwegian nature photographer and even add on some subscribers to reduce the cost. Also, have you thought of traveling to arctic conditions in the South Pole and perhaps viewing the penguins of the Falkland Islands or the glaciers down there in Patagonia? 🥶📸📸😀
@Dan-fo9dk
@Dan-fo9dk 2 жыл бұрын
If I understand you correct you are saying that Alaska has university within the Arctic.... Neither Anchorage nor Fairbanks are within the Arctic.... so where is that Arctic university located.....??? What is "...arctic conditions in the South Pole..." supposed to mean...??? Maybe you could try with Antarctic....!!!!
@ANRO7524
@ANRO7524 2 жыл бұрын
@@Dan-fo9dk Dan, you didn't understand me because you assumed that I was writing a research thesis to Ana instead of just a comment in her vlog. To be clear about what I was conveying: the Arctic Circle is at 66° latitude and Fairbanks, (the city where I was studying), is located at approximately 64.84°. Each degree of latitude for the globe is approximately 69 miles (110km) from the other. So, Fairbanks is actually some 70 miles south of the Arctic Circle which begins at latitudinal line 66°. So you are technically correct. However, climate and weather do not care about man-made devices such as latitudinal maps when the distance in question is only a mere 69 miles difference (110km), and so I assure you that Fairbanks experiences "arctic conditions" as well with temperatures commonly reaching -30° Farhenheit (-34°C) or colder and it is most certainly considered by the locals and the university as part of the arctic region and biome with regards to its weather/ climate, ecosystem, and its historic indigenous subsistence patterns. As for the South Pole, you are also technically correct, the area is geographically referred to as Antarctic, but again, I wasn't in the process of writing a thesis paper for Ana, and I'm certain that the Antarctic is as cold a region as the Arctic. 🥶
@Dan-fo9dk
@Dan-fo9dk 2 жыл бұрын
@@ANRO7524 Sometimes it can bee a bit entertaining with YT. Dude I didn't assume anything. The only one here who don't seem to understand are yourself. When you come with a comment it is a minimum that you have some realism and grip on what you are posting....right.... No one has asked you to write a research paper in order to be reasonable correct in a comment. Fairbanks is not in the Arctic ....period.... Your estimate of direct (north-south) distance Fairbanks-Arctic circle is a miss of 50%. If you shall drive along the only road that stretches north through Alaska you must drive something like 194 miles before you cross the Arctic circle. You have probably never been to the Arctic. Just to "consider" or pretend to be located in the Arctic ....is .....shall we call it a rather pathetic.... a rather cheap way of doing things. Temperature is not a defining factor for what is the Arctic. There are glaciers to be found at equator.... so it is no problema to find such a place where you can freeze your ass off even at tropical latitudes. When you talk about Arctic conditions on the South Pole ....well then you can hardly be more lost and one can only wonder what kind of "fuel" you are smoking. It does not get better when you ask someone (with 14K subscribers), who do vlogging on her free time, to travel to Falkland Island, Patagonia and South Pole in order to make a video..... Do you really think that everyone has millions to spare on their bank account or are you just lost in the fog...??? Finally I can see that you really don't know much about latitudes and Arctic Circle and that kind of stuff (it is not very correct what you post). Just to save you from embarrass yourself with your homemade knowledge (...and save your time) I can say that I am from the Arctic and geophysics is my science so I know a thing or two about these things....

The Kamchatkacrabs (or Russian crab and King Crab as they also are called) is a introduced species that the russians introduced to their waters in the 60's, it does not have any natural enemies apart from humans so they can do serious damage to the bottom where they live. I have seen once while scubadiving near where I live ... we saw the entire bottom as far as you could see and the we could see far ... it was moving with all the crabs walking around, it was both amazing and frightning ... it must have been thousands of thousands of crabs, they come to shallow water to shed their shell, then they walk deeper to feed ... when they are up at shallow water they don't have so much meat on them, so the shedding goes well I suppose. As I live up here I have a right to catch some of these for dinner a year ... I believe, but have not really done so, its okey meat in my mind but eating too much nah... but Varanger shrimps are pretty good tough. There is a local big crab that is at war with the king crab, its almost as big ... but have some difference that I don't remember now, we call them Troll Krabbe (or Troll Crab) they pretty much taste the same tough.
