It definitely depends on what school you go to as well. People dressed up for class pretty often at my college. I definitely did but I didn’t think anything of the people dressed more comfortably. My mindset is you have the rest of your working life to dress up, you don’t need to look “cute” or overly “nice” while learning *if you don’t want to*. If you do, great🙂 With the amount of all nighters my cohort and I pulled we were lucky if we showed up in a new outfit😂 we did dress up really well for important presentations though which was always a nice change of pace, but being more casual otherwise made those times stand out. Unless your degree/major has a specific dress requirement it’s weird to put your expectations on others😒

19:20 as someone who DOES dress up (bcus i like it) i hate hearing ppl say we have to dress certain ways to get people to like us. i hear it from my mom all the time and honestly its so degrading and i feel bad for people who think this. dress for yourself, not others. if you love what youre wearing, whether it makes you comfortable or happy or boosts your pride etc. then i see no problem with people wearing what they want. we shouldn't feel controlled by others to wear what they like. people who believe they need people to look at their appearance to like them are deeply insecure and have an unhealthy relationship with their own body and ego. my mother is this same way and it makes me feel bad for her also, the way she says "people used to dress up for college, it was a privilege" without thinking deeper about WHY college is a privilege is so???? like yeah it was a privilege bcus the only people who went were rich, it was very hard to get into university if you were raised by a working class family. therefore, most people who attended college had the ability to dress up

Somehow it has been decades since I went to college and everyone dressed like slobs then too. Not as many sweatpants because athleisure wasn’t around yet. But we all definitely wore worn out jeans and hoodies everyday. Also, I think she might forget that 2000 was decades ago. I’m pretty sure that if you went back as far as the 70s casual clothes in college were the norm. I feel like maybe she just graduated from high school back where people were desperate for popularity and hasn’t adjusted to no one caring who you are or what you’re wearing.
