The fact she asks if "overweight" women where ever desired really shows she didn't pay attention in basic history classes. In recent-ish history, women being "overweight" was considered attractive, desirable, and a sign of status, meaning yes, men wanted to date women on the heavier side. @ourladyofperpetualskepticism2 жыл бұрын
The very concept of “overweight” is pretty new in terms of human history, as weight wasn’t really conceptualized as it is in the modern consciousness. It’s incredibly arbitrary. For example, in 1997, a panel of nine doctors arbitrarily made millions of people “obese” overnight simply by changing the definition from a BMI of 27 to 25. And not for any medical reasons, literally because they thought 25 would be an easier number to remember. And human beauty preferences have always been arbitrary and changing, even within an individual person. Several studies indicate that the more familiar you become with a person’s face, the more “beautiful” you find them.

@KC Yeah, that checks out. Sorry to hear you had that experience! I feel like shorter guys often develop a complex/reactionary personality as a defense mechanism against our tendency as a culture to accept a certain amount of short shaming (is that a term? lol). In my experience, it's pretty uncontroversial in most spaces from popular culture to political commentators to reaction/commentary channels to take jabs at short men for their height. I could see how this might lead some short men to seek comfort in places that purport to accept or go to bat for them... Unfortunately, one of those places is the red-pill community. It's not a good place, but it's a place. There are, of course, spaces on the Left that promote body positivity and support "short kings", but I can't count the number of times I've seen content creators in those spaces praise short kings then turn around and take jabs at people like Ben Shapiro for being short. There are A LOT of things to criticize about Ben, but his being short shouldn't be one of them. I bring this up not because it makes these leftwing spaces worse or equal to the red-pill misogynists, but to illustrate how it can be difficult for short men to find a community where they feel respected. Either way though, there's no excuse for poor behavior-we short kings have to be bigger than that (pun intended 😉)
@alicine-sims8988 Жыл бұрын
@KC Yeah 100% depends on the guy, the shortest guy I've dated was also super insecure about being the same height as me, and tried to make it my problem. Like he didn't want me to wear heels, and was always trying to take photos in a way where he could look taller, would generally avoiding standing photos with me, etc. He also turned out to be very abusive after his transactional niceness wore off so there is that too. 😅
@howinnocentistheday Жыл бұрын
@KC I totally agree, but as a short guy I have seen a LOT of women saying they wouldn't date a guy under 6' or 5'10 or 5'9 or whatever. I honestly think that's a case of those women's views just being louder and they are often pushed by men (those street interview type channels for example) but a lot of women definitely do care about height. I think short men's insecurities come from rejection, especially with height being such a big thing on dating apps, as well as competition with other men.
@howinnocentistheday Жыл бұрын
@KC I think the insecurity comes from like 30% competition between men, 30% women not liking shorter men, and 40% men *thinking* women don't like shorter men. I honestly hadn't seen it that way before but that totally makes sense - if I was a taller girl and I was insecure about it I for sure wouldn't like guys that only made me feel taller. I guess the conclusion here is that beauty standards just suck for everyone lol

There's a statue known as "Venus of Willendorf" that depicts a fat female figure believed to represent a fertility goddess. It's believed to have been carved in 25,000 BC. People LITERALLY had a goddess in the form of a fat woman, tell me more about how skinny has always been the standard.

The first quote is BS tbh. I’ve seen it get parroted in conservative circles to justify why its ok to mock and harass fat people or people who don’t fit society’s view of beauty standards. “They look ugly to me and my group of friends which mean they are bad people because their bad thoughts are showing on their face, so we’re justified to bully them.” I wouldn’t be surprised most of the rating rhetoric Peal peddles was hearing simple and reductionist takes like this. Not to say chronic *stress* tends to diminish a person’s appearance. But that’s a lot more accurate and nuanced rather than using skindeep and subjective traits to determine someone’s character.
@ourladyofperpetualskepticism2 жыл бұрын
@@hanatemonstas4485 I think it's a fundamental misunderstanding of the book and quote to take it that way. It's not about an actual physical beauty, it's about how our familiarity with their kindness and goodness makes the things we traditionally think of as "ugly" endearing to us. It's how someone can be traditionally "attractive" but utterly repellant to you once you have seen their cruelty and meanness. The point is that the physical appearance *doesn't* actually change. The point is that you love with your heart--that when you really know someone, their outward appearance doesn't matter because you are seeing with your heart and not your eyes.

I just wanna point out that the people like plastic surgeons who speculate what procedures celebrities have gotten done are doing a GOOD thing. They're teaching people what's real and what isn't. It's fighting against people comparing themselves to celebrities and thinking they're ugly in comparison because they don't know how to tell if the celebrities are "natural" or not. It's a really good thing. If no one asked then I'm asking, please keep doing it. It's not a bad thing, and we shouldn't have to stay silent about these procedures. For as long as people are getting them, we need to normalize the conversation around them as well so people will hopefully start comparing themselves to celebrities less, because they know it's likely they've paid for their looks.
@MIMI-tf9hv2 жыл бұрын
@@froggy5748 no one said it's not pretty? There's nothing wrong with getting procedures done. And no one is also claiming anything so even if it was wrong, it wouldn't matter because it's speculation anyway. However some procedures are very easily detectable to the trained eye, so it's not a big possibility for the speculation to be wrong in many cases. Sometimes it's easy to tell, and it's good to teach anyone how to be able to tell. I don't think it's gross at all as long as you don't have any negative intentions which these people don't have (at least the ones I've seen).

There is a LOT of creepy reasons (to do with misogyny, obsession with youth and naivety, power over frailty etc) as to why models are required to be so thin, but a lot of people don't realise that's it's also to do with money. Designers can use far less fabric, and save time and energy by literally just creating clothes that only look 'good' on a hanger. Or one size and type of dressmaking mannequin. Having wide shoulders is actually a bonus for models, because they want a 'walking coathanger'. Designers will tailor a dress for a celebrity, or a very wealthy client, but any other woman will just be told that their body is the problem if they look like shit in a sack.

Also, the ideal model body isn't due to "objective beauty" or anything. Modeling isn't about the model, the model is a vessel for what they're promoting, whether it be hair, clothing, accessories, make up or whatever. The average person cares about who they're seeing so the average person focuses on the model. But the people who actually attend elite fashion shows and stuff aren't there for the models, they don't come for who's going to be wearing the clothes, they come for who is designing and making them. They don't care about who is wearing, they care about who you ARE wearing. The ideal figure for a model is the ideal figure for showing off the clothes without their body getting in the way. Because if you have larger breasts or a bit of a tummy or whatever, nothing is wrong with that, I'm like that, but obviously the clothes will warp around your body. Them being tall, slim and flat chested helps the garment rest in a way that makes everything clear and readable. Like a sweater with text on it would be harder to read on someone with a large bust like myself than someone with a flat chest. The model physique is often not healthy, and it's not about them. It's about what product they're advertising. Face models for example, full lips works for them so you can see the lip colour and lip liner clearly. That does not reflect on beauty standards in anyway shape or form. The current beauty trend is the slim thick baddie, yet the ideal model physique remains the same cause they are separate things. The tall skinny thigh gap ideal came from that phase where people were obsessed with models, it wasn't the models reflecting the trends, the trends temporarily reflected them. But the trends changed. As they do.

@@espeon871 truly! Is it sad that people of certain body typed won't really make elite runways? Yes. But you can still model, you can model for companies that sell clothes for your body type, for people to actually wear. People often forget fashion is an art form, they talk about runway clothes being ugly and unwearable but they're not meant to be wearable they usually tell a story, at most they're for the red carpet/entering an elitist function (where people often change after), or taking elements from, not the whole ensemble. But you can model for actual clothing brands that market to people for every day wear and such, because in that scenario models of different body types is very useful so people can see how the clothes will fit them if they have a similar body type before they buy it.

The sorriest issue about Pearl is that even to criticize her fairly you have to assume that her opinions and arguments come from a place of good faith and are somehow informed ─regardless of being ill informed─ but they're absolutely not. When she said that she rather be called a "pick me girl" than a "skip me" she authentically outed herself as someone that will say whatever she needs to say to be validated by the alpha male gang.

21:22 in the renessance, being overweight was considered desirable because it would mean that you're rich. Proof that beauty standards change over time and that no one should judge ppl on their appearances.

one thing about dating short men, which trust me, i've dated all sorts of heights from 6'3 to 4'11 (i'm 5'2), is that THEY think it matters even if you don't. short men tend to be more insecure, insecure men are prone to toxicity and toxic people can be abusive. Now as i've been in horrible abusive relationships with a guy who was 6'3 and a guy who was 5'4, height isn't always the issue, but being short can make a guy feel like he's a put-upon underdog which is never a recipe for success. for those non-toxic short kings, keep doing you, you'll find the perfect person for you, but if you're insecure, that is not your partner or anyone else's fault. (not your fault either, but it is your responsibility)

I like the “i am useless and gay” shirt. First saw it when AmazingPhil wore it in a video so I kind of associate it with him lol, but that just makes me like it more. Now I’ll associate it with Queer Kiwi too, and that’ll make me like it more. The dog is super cute and the message relatable. Made me smile. The video was good too.

Even tho we don't like her, there's something very sweet and childlike about her happiness. I was smiling the whole time (maybe it's just because I work with kids idk). I'm at 8:10 rn but ik she is an absolute menace, I've seen her other content, but it was very sweet the way she's so happy about meeting someone she looks up to. /Gen /LH

She really is so certain that her way is the right way, that as soon as she’s in danger of being proven wrong, she insists that all people at least secretly agree with her.She just wants to be right.

I still don't understand why she is always talking about how other women look when she looks like......that. And honestly I am really not that better off in the looks department. But I'm not telling other women they need to be thinner and prettier when I'm a chunky mess.

Even if the nonsense she said had a single grain of logic....who cares? Seriously why does she care so much about, what, proving certain women are ugly? What does it matter to her if anyone finds Lizzo or literally any other woman attractive? There's almost this weird desperation she has to convince everyone she talks to she's right.

I’m literally engaged to a man who is 5’5”. Height matters to a small handful of women but certainly not all of us!! I love my short king
@sarenswiftfoot98112 жыл бұрын
I never understood the whole "only skinny people are attractive" thing, there are so many beautiful people in so many different shapes and sizes. I personally find either vary thin or heavy set people attractive, but that's just my personal preference and there are way more factors that go into me being attracted to someone then just their build.
