My grandma had not a choice when she was a child, her parents simply decided to take her out from elementary school to parent her siblings (she was the oldest daughter, but she had older brothers) so they could go to school and study in peace. When she grew up, they simply married her off in an arranged marriage, that young, small woman with nothing but a elementary school degree. And they thought it was alright. She was lucky that he was an amazing husband, poor because he was also a farm worker, an immigrant who barely spoke any portuguese and struggled to find a job because of that (and her parents wanted her to marry him just because he was "pure japanese", kinda bloodline stuff), so he was mostly a stay at home husband and he started to rise some crops to sell, sometimes he would get a temporaly job and all to help financially. Anyways, basically, the only job she managed to get (and she was the main breadwinner) was cleaning houses because of her education. Her siblings, they all got better jobs and a better life, mom even remember that sometimes grandma even had to work at their houses as a maid. The way how people don't take girls education seriously is absolutely dehumanizing.
