I wish I was descended from the Howards as that would be very exciting indeed!

Do you know I have never actually been up the tower! I am saving the experience, but will record for the channel when I do. What were thoughts on doing it?

Could Queen Katherine Howard also be buried in the Howard Chapel? When Queen Victoria authorised the opening of graves at the chapel in The Tower of London her remains weren't found. It would have been easy for the Howards to move her in the reign of Queen Mary

No this is very unlikely. I also don't think we know if her bones were found or not, as the identifications of the bones are not certain. Indeed the graves of bones of apparently two women found together seem more likely to be Katharine and Lady Rochford. The Howards wouldn't have cared much for Katharine after she 'disgraced' the family and they wouldn't have tried and had her moved to their chapel. There is a longer comment about this in the 4 minute edit of this video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpSQpX2DbNiqa6M

When Queen Catherine Howard was executed. She was buried in St Peter ad Vincula. I read a story when she was buried. Lime was used to speed up the decay of the body. Meaning there would be nothing left of Catherine's remains. With her aunt Elizabeth Howard, Countess of Wilshire buried there. Also Agnes Howard, Duchess of Norfolk, the second wife of Thomas Howard 2nd Duke of Norfolk. Her tomb had a brass depicting her. In fact Thomas 2nd Duke did despite being buried originally up at Thetford...William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham son of the 2nd Duke. 1st Wife Katherine was buried in the Howard Chapel where her tomb was adorned with brass. William Howard himself was buried in the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Reigate where there is a vault for him and his successors. I believe there are some tombs too. Another burial in the Howard Chapel is that of Elizabeth Stafford Duchess of Norfolk. The second wife of the 3rd Duke. I hope this helps

Could you find out just how Anne's mother felt towards her husband after the death of her two children? I can not see them being very close after Anne and George lost their heads due to Elizabeth's husband and her brother's greed and lust for power. I for one would have avoided my husband if he had cause the death of two of my children. And don't forget that Thomas Boleyn also banished his other daughter, Mary from the family. It must have been heart wrenching for Elizabeth, I know it would have been for me.

I am really interested in what the primary sources say about Thomas and Elizabeth Boleyn and what we can learn about them. The truth is we do not know much. We do know that Elizabeth did not die at Hever and was buried at Lambeth, but this seems to have been a standard practice for the Howard women. Nicola Clark has published a great piece of work on this that you can read here: www.cambridge.org/core/journals/journal-of-ecclesiastical-history/article/gendering-of-dynastic-memory-burial-choices-of-the-howards-14851559/E48E2D2465DD84EA4ABECBB71C0EA57A On her grave though, Elizabeth was called Howard, not a Boleyn and her husband was not mentioned. We do of course not know if this was because Agnes, Duchess of Norfolk did not want the Boleyn name in her chapel or if Elizabeth did not want to have the Boleyn name on her gravestone. So much to consider but we will sadly never know.

So, she's currently buried in the gift shop...not sure how to feel about that. Also wonder why they don't cover the tombs with plexiglass or something because the constant foot traffic can't be good for them.

I absolutely agree. I have been working on a big research project relating to this church and the tombs and graves and this will be coming to the channel soon. Thanks for your interest.
