I do like the one about the literal doors closing, like yes you can trust that the door usually gets closed!

Yeah, I feel like I could have done with being told that when I first started because I genuinely wasn’t sure how much of that stuff you needed. You just develop a feel for it don’t you ☺️

I like the point about not throwing things away. That's similar to Neil Gaiman's advice about adding things to the compost heap 😉 it all adds to the final pieces that do work

Absolutely ☺️ it all ends up somewhere, and often what that ends up being is better than what you originally wanted. P.S you’re my favourite

I’m so glad I found this video. All of the highlighted tips are very helpful, but the last three really resonated with me the most. As I am currently working on how to incorporate subtle elements and hints into my novel. Thank you for this awesome video!

I like the part about 'not having to close the door'. I just went through this with a story I'm writing. The character woke up hungover and threw up in the bathroom. There was a part of me that was bothered by this dirty bathroom. I needed to clean it up - so, I had her do it. After I read what I wrote, I thought "What is this? This does nothing to add to the story - and doesn't tell us anything about the character. I'm just making her soothe my OCD." Lol !! Nice to hear this advice from a pro. Now I don't have to spend time fixing it. I can just get rid of it. Thanks for your content. Love the channel.

Thanks for watching! That's a big thing for me too, I always feel the urge to overexplain and there's never much value in doing so when I read it back.

Love your video. Some of the rules make me smile (reflecting on myself). I write to amuse myself, but get so many criticism, rules etc that is making my story lose my voice.
@KierenWestwoodWriting2 жыл бұрын
I knjow what you mean. Don't take any rules too seriously I'd say. If you're amusing yourself with your writing, you're going the right way!

Hey new to your channel. Great videos, great production value, good lighting and good audio quality, keep up the good work, you deserve a bigger following. Don't worry it will come, keep working hard. KZbin can be grindy. Sorry for rambling.... I use to many -ing words.

Hi! Thanks very much, I really appreciate that. Who knows what the future holds, all I can do is keep making videos, I figure if I interest myself, maybe others will be interested too.
