Fun fact: until the mid 90s the Rottweiler was recommended as one of the top 10 family dogs in Germany due to their sweet and loving character. However because of irresponsible owners/breeders and negative media coverage the Rottweiler is nowadays officially labeled as “dangerous” in many states. What a shame.

Ive watched a Rottweiler from a flat opposite. A girl about 3 years old she lived with the dog, it was a family dog. The young girl ran out towards the Rd, I was on 5th floor shouting she's running to road. The dog ran after her and got her back in the front garden. Using her body (the dog) to push the little girl in the right direction. It was amazing the dog knew what she was doing, looking after her pack. Incredible Dog.

Funny story. I was always told that Rotties are dangerous. One day I was with my sports team training in a park and someone brought his Rottie. I was sitting down at a bench taking a break and the dog suddenly charged me...and jumped up on my lap, somehow rolled over onto his back and his master laughed and said "he wants belly rubs". That was a great way to destroy a stereotype...and every Rottie I have met since has been nothing but friendly.

I've met some beauties! One was nearly the size of a Shetland pony! Owned by a lady living alone, he slept downstairs, near the front door, always guarding her at night. @@dianestone2029 My last Rottie, Raven, was also definitely her own personality. We had a crabapple tree in our backyard. There was a two inches thick branch on it about 5 feet off the ground. Raven, on her own, decided that was "her branch" . She would jump up, grab it, and start shacking it. One day, Raven actually got it. She jumped up, shook a few times, and down comes Raven and the branch. Now, I have a 100lbs Rottie running around the yard with a 6 foot long tree branch in her mouth. I couldn't help but laugh.

Got my husband a Rotty, years ago, he loved her more than he loved me, I swear. But, to be honest she was a beauty. Husband died 2016 in Feb, Chyna ( Rotty) died in August same year. I am convinced she pined away. Vet said it was her heart, the night before she was fine. Woke in morning she had died in her sleep. Apparently she had an undiagnosed heart problem. Lovely dog, so easy to train, she was only 6 when she died x She was convinced she was a lap dog , I have 5 kids ( now adults) she would herd my kids and their friends into a group in the garden. If they were on trampoline or pool, she had to join in I did used to tell the friends parents, I'd put her away whilst their children were here playing, they all laughed and said the cat was more ferocious x

Many, many years ago, I owned two Rottweilers (Harvey and Bo) While I was away on work and they where 1 day away from me returning to take them home, i was informed that Boleyn had been found in the morning dead in the kennel by the kennel hand (10+ years old). Harvey definitely grieved hard for Bo, but we looked after him until 6 months later he was diagnosed with cancer and died soon after (which I think was a result of his loss of Bo and grief). Anyway, at the time that I got both of them as puppies (1 year apart Bo being the oldest and mother figure to Harvey) these breeds where not so popular where I lived. (I always wanted to raise my Rotties with a great, friendly temperament much like , Labs, Retrievers (replacing their size and dominant look, with friendly acceptance to both family, friends and strangers) which I was successful doing. A few years after getting two dogs, I noticed that the breed was becoming popular in neighbouring towns and cities, but unfortunately, with the 'wrong type of owners' training them to be aggressive and threatening and purely buying the breed either for the wrong reasons ie "street status" or 'extending their own egos' for were their egos "fell short'. You will see this cycle happening with other breeds The Rottweiler breed (especially within the 'wrong hands' has now diminished - thankfully!.) and now "unfortunately", you will see other breeds become fashionable for the wrong reasons, ie; Pit Bulls (illegal in many countries due to the BAD OWNERS who get them for the wrong reasons) Staffordshire Bull Terriers (Always seen in rescue centres (owners grown tired or dog no longer a 'fighter'!. Dobermans etc. And now we have 'a new kid on the block" - the Cane Corso. I am sure their are many great owners of these dog breeds out there, but it is your responsibility to ensure that your dogs temperament is that of a 'friendly family and to the public pet and not something that was purchased to be an extension of your home, car or ego. Train them well , Protect them from being taken away and sent to kill centres. Purchase your breeds for the right reason not the wrong one!.

@@ooforange1st881 it was 3 different pit bulls with 3 different owners. It’d be one thing if it was one dog out of many but I have never come across one nice pit bull that is good with other animals. I’m sure they exist or people would never own pit bulls, but my dog hasn’t been attacked by any other breed than a pit bull. You would think that if someone has an aggressive dog they wouldn’t take them to the dog park but sadly that is not the case.

We’ve had rotties my whole life. They are absolute angels. We adore our babies. We have been lucky enough to have dogs that are so gentle, kind, and good. Our family has had four and we have been so lucky. We ensured that we were so gentle with them, and raised them to be kind. We have never had any behavioral issues. We have never had aggression issues. We have never had any issues. My parents have a 100 lb rottie right now and he is a total sugar pie. He has never bit, growled at, or hurt a soul. He loves trying to befriend cats, who sass him and he lays down and whimpers at them.

My friend has a rottie for a dog, he's a big push over and licks every person who touches him. I'm more afraid of the owner than the dog. She just gives out 2 words and that dog won't even hesitate to bite anyone. and that dog is TRULY a GUARD DOG, he would follow his owner even to the delivery room, I had to hold him while his owner gives birth.

Excellent video! We are currently on our 5th Rottweiler, over the decades. Unfortunately, our first one (male named Coco) tragically died from stomach torsion, and the subsequent ones (all females, named Koukla, Sheva, and Lulu) died from either lymphoma or osteosarcoma. Our last one, Lulu, lived the longest, which is only 8 years old (the one that passed from osteosarcoma just a few weeks ago). Rotties are truly wonderful, dedicated to family, companion dogs that live to be a daily part of your life. Your relationship with them is very close and loving. We cannot imagine life without one. We just picked up a 7 week old Rottie puppy we named Ophelia, and we are already head over heels in love with the little lady! We are hoping she can live a full life, despite all our previous Rotties getting cancer.

@@peeron6829 Thank you! We are hoping Ophelia lives longer than our previous Rotties. Our vet told us that the latest info and studies show that female Rottweilers shouldn't be spayed ('fixed') before their 'first heat' session. They are more prone to getting cancers if you spay them early on. The best time would be a few months after their 'first heat' session. Supposedly, this significantly reduces their chances of getting cancer.

The greatest breed! I‘ve had a Rottie for 12 1/2 years, and she had all of these qualities. She would let my nieces and nephews climb on top of her (with me being next to them, of course, though I knew she would have never done anything to them. but you never know what children may be doing). My mom loved taking care of her and go out for walks late, as she said she always felt safe with her by her side. She was loyal, obedient, loving, and stunningly beautiful. Even on her last day she let us know that she just did not want to walk anymore, which made the terrible decision to put her to sleep feel like the right decision. I did not get another Rottie after her as I live in the city center now, and they are massive dogs after all. But I am still a big Rottie fan.

I have a female Rott that's about 5 years now. She's recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. She's absolutely been the best dog I've ever owned. Though high energy (which means she can bounce off of kids) she's extremely gentle. Soft mouthed. And as described in this episode she wants to be INSIDE of your skin. She'll sit on you, lean on you, stuff her head into you. She's at my side always. If I'm sleeping, sitting, pooping... she's as close to me as she can manage to be. Always.

This lady is stunningly beautiful. I didnt realize Rotts were so versatile. Its amazing how a trained dog can get one whiff of a person and then sniff out there trail in appropriate conditions. The applications of that skill are so brilliant and potentially life saving. I cleared some brush from the property of a family friend once and they had two Rottweilers. Soon after I met the friend at his backyard gate and he let me in I sat down on a bench in his backyard. We were speaking while he watered his plants. During this time I noticed that I was the subject of the big Rottweilers attention. The other Rottweiler didn't pay me much mind after an initial introduction and quick head scratch. This big dog would periodically walk up to me and get REALLY close. I didn't know that this dog wasn't seeking scratches or fanny pats. He seemed to resent my attempts at friendship. This felt different and it was a little awkward for me. My friend would then yell at his dog very loudly and very aggressively NO', or 'HEY' and the dog would back off a bit. Then this big Rott would get in my space again and get yelled at again.... It was stressful for me. I wasn't sure what was going on. All I knew at the time was that this big dog's behavior was strange to me and that he was being yelled at aggressively. I am familiar with Retrievers, Pit Bulls and to a lesser extent German Shepherds. I was completely unfamiliar with the behavior of this big, strong, black, imposing dog. He wanted to be up in my face, but he didn't want affection. Years later after more research and life experience I realized that big male Rottweiler was deliberately trying to intimidate me, or dominate me or something to that effect. He was displaying territorial aggression to me, his owner recognized it and reprimanded him for it. The entire situation made complete sense... It was the first and only time I have ever been 'intimidated' by a dog. It was my first experience with displays of territorial dominance and guardianship. I was too ignorant to realize what was happening so I never connected fear with the encounter. However it was quite awkward and uncomfortable. Had I known that this big dog was considering whether or not I needed a good clobbering I would probably think very negatively about this breed. Luckily though my memory of the encounter is one of a cool, big, confident, courageous, intense dog that doesn't believe in the notion of 'personal space.' I am also left with the sense that that particular specimen of the breed was stubborn and took the control and guardianship of his dominion seriously if not a little too far. In one way I respect the dog for his powerful instincts and on the other hand I find it hard to condone a breed that displays aggression to and dominance over human beings. A very potentially dangerous breed if taught to hate.

There are two rules to owning a Rottie. One is training that will be for their entire life. They are very intelligent but also VERY dominant. If you are seen as not a good leader in their eyes, they will quite literally take over. Second is socialisation. This is an absolute must. We must remember they do have that protection instinct in them, even without any guarding training. As a responsible owner you must introduce your dog to everything and everyone so they can understand what is OK and what is expected of them. Every single Rottie I've ever seen that was classed as aggressive is not. Sometimes they are scared, but most of the time they just don't understand what is OK. Both problems mean the Rottie explodes into jumping around and barking and often fake lunges. Hence the bad rep. Rotties are very clever, but without guidance they can become serious issues.

Thank you for such an enlightening episode. I really have to look at the Rottweiler in a whole new light. First, I respect the UK for not allowing tail docking. I live in the US, and I have questioned the importance of that doing that, if the dog is not an actual working dog. I honestly don't know if it should even be done in that case, but that is the only reason I could see its importance, so the dog would not be harmed while performing its duties. I would hope the US would follow suit. The dogs showcased were amazing! I got choked up several times. These dogs really are heros. The tracking of lost people, the protection of their beloved family, their companionship... What a beautiful, intelligent and powerful breed. But the breeder has seemed to really put her life into breeding healthy, wonderful dogs. When a breeder cares about their health and not passing on degenerative traits, that is caring. I hate to see dogs suffer because breeders just want to pump out a factory of cute puppies to sell for lots of money. It is heartbreaking. Another fabulous episode Animal Watch! Thank you! ~❣️

Even a new breeder can garner a lot of attraction because they know what they are doing. In 1995, the breeder we got our Rotti from was only in to breeding for about2-3 years. When we met her it was apparent she knew a lot about the breed. Turns out the Rotti we got from her had lineage to a champion breed in Rottweil Germany. We named her Kupkake and she adored everyone. Likewise, everyone who met her too. The "downside" to having a Rotti is they love to step on your toes when you're at the counter making anything food related, they numb your legs because they want to lay on you when you're watching TV, and they hog up the bed because they want to sleep next to you. LOL

I would love one too!!! However I know myself too well. I don’t even have the time and energy for a cat. Thinking of looking for a sexy man who also happens to own a well trained, well cared for and loved Rottweiler. Kill two birds with one stone.

I have a rottie, and he is amazing. He loves to play and has his own version of keep away. He grabs something that he *knows* he's not supposed to grab, runs down the hall, turns around and stared at you, all while making sure that you see what he has. Then, once you get close enough, he'll run right past you to the other end of the hall and repeat the whole process! But when he's just chilling, he's your best friend, 'cause he'll just lay right on top of you with his ball and either chew on it or fall asleep with it.

My grandparents had a rottweiler. He was the biggest sook. And the most friendliest dog. All he wanted was someone to throw a stick for him. My grandad once show him a mouse in a bucket and he ran yelping and hid for a few hours. I miss that dog so much.

Love this episode so much! This shows such a great introduction about the Rottweilers and this breed should not be misinterpreted as dangerous dogs. Thank You Animal Watch 😍 ❤

In the wrong hands, they really can be. Such as the life of pitbull, cane Corso, boerbel, Doberman, press canerio, and etc. As a dog guard breed rotties are at that top, but you need a trainer that knows what they are doing. I LOVE rotties, I used to have one as a kid. I had a pitbull and a rottweiler, both can be incredibly wonderful dog breeds in the right hands. These dogs get a bad rap, because of idiot owners.

I house/dog sit for friends who own a Rottweiler. I am madly in love with her! She eats, plays and sleeps, with me. I feel so safe and protected when I’m with her! I absolutely adore her; she’s a wonderful, magnificent girl and I am blessed that she accepts me as part of her pack!💝

I grew up with a German Shepherd as a kid and I've always wanted to get my own dog, a Rottweiler is a dog I'd love to get one day. I dislike when people just leave them chained up outside though, if they're going to protect someone they deserve to be a loved family pet.

When you next see one, please just go over and say hi to the owner and ask if you can stroke his dog. We owners have an influx of people wanting to stroke our Rottweilers when they are a fluff ball puppy, but once they are three months old people hardly ever come over. It would help the dog as much as it would help you.

We adopted our 2 year old rottweiler in November and oh my days she's amazing so loving and sweet but she was in the back garden one day and a couple of idiots that drink in the local town centre and they happened to try get over our garden fence as they were trying to run away from the local police what a shock they got when our girl went bounding up to the fence barking growling showing her teeth they soon went the other way 🤣🤣 I love that she protects her home and garden and me . I walk her at night time as I feel safe with my girl she's my first rottie and I love her so much 🐕❤🐾
