I've had three actual wolf dogs. One a full 50% and she was the most faithful loyal member of the family I've ever lived with. She was half Michigan grey wolf (father) the other half was half huskie /half chocolate lab (mother). She lived just 3 days short of her 20th birthday. As far as a brother or sister not inheriting wolf content it means different father since it's impossible otherwise.

Not necessarily. Her Tamascan is a female xx if Wolf gene was male and inherited Wolf gene on Y male gene pnly then the female would not inherit wolf gene even though she would beca 1 percent she would test negative

Atlas is beautiful, he looks like one of my German Shepherds that I had growing up. My Dad used to breed German Shepherds, but our Shepherds looked liked they had wolf dna, I think that was the look my Dad was going for back in the 70's. Our Shepherds were beautiful and unique looking, someone even broke into our house trying to steal the puppies. My father also trained the dogs and all the commands were in German. I think my Dad fell in love with the breed when he spent time in Germany, but I always wondered why our Shepherds looked more like wolves. I guess my Dad was making his own breed , back in the day, he even feed them a raw diet. My Shepherd lived to be 22years old. Watching this video brings back memories because 3 of the dogs look like dogs I had growing up. What a beautiful, intelligent breed!'

Had to pts my Tamaskan (G1) at 2.5. She had severe hip dysplasia and was from the day I got her from LS in the UK terrified of so many thing. She was terrified of men and old people, as well as tall people dressed in dark. If anything in her enviroment changed she would get anxious. No matter how much training I did she never got good with being alone. That being said, she was amazing with children, all the way to a toddler, she loved her family and was such a good dog. She would observe everything, would Pick up tricks so fast, and was so smart that if she got lose and you tricked her to catch her, you were unlikely to ever be able to trick her the same way again. On one side she was an absolute escape artist, could open Doors inwards and even unhook leads that were hooked on her back, but her seperation anxiety also meant that she didn’t want to be left alone so she wouldn’t really run far. My Tamaskan was my soul dog.. i miss her even almost a decade down the line. I got a GSD towards the end of her life, and while I love her it’s just not the same as my Tam was. I never met a Tam I didn’t like. Btw. Most breeders knows Exactly what is in their breeding dogs and can somewhat estimate what pups they produce have of content, Specially if it’s 0% or higer percent content.

Some notable features of wolves that differ from dogs are in the chest, front paws, and tail. Wolves have narrow chests with the front legs closer together, and the front paws are splayed outward slightly where a dog's paws align straight forward. Wolves tails tend to be shorter than a dogs. My GSD x NA grey wolf has these wolf traits but a more GSD type coat. All of these Tamaskans seem to be the reverse; dog traits with wolf coats. My pup's personality could be described exactly like Kyoshi though. Escape artist matriarch loved by all dogs she meets 😂

I agree with you about zoos with cold cement floors or cramped spaces that don't give the animal either the space or environment it's used to living in. However, I can certainly understand where zoos came from, 100 years ago many people couldn't afford to travel to far flung places to see exotic animals, so zoos were the perfect chance for the working classes and much of the poorer population to see exotic animals, though obviously they were set up in a time when animal rights didn't exist. As time has gone on, especially in Western countries most zoos are now held to a much higher standard where people expect animal welfare first, i think most of the animals in modern day zoos are bred rather than captured. But most importantly some zoos have breeding programs for animals that will otherwise and unfortunately go extinct in the wild, and so some zoos serve to help repopulate the species and maybe one day reintroduce it back to the wild.

Anneka, I always enjoy your wonderful podcasts. I have mom & daughter Siberian Huskies. Mom is a Red/White & daughter Black/White, who takes after Dad. When mom was just 6 months we met a man with a very tall Siberian Husky named Romulus at to the Laguna Beach, Ca Dog Park. Romulus was very stand offish from all the other dogs. But he loved little Murphey. After 3 months of getting to know him, he told me Romulus was actually a Timber Wolf. Romulus was white/gray, longer hair on his middle back, with legs that bowed outward. They were quite a pair. Murphey girl was the only dog Romulus would play with. I don't know how he got Romulus. That was 13 years ago. Great to see your Tamaskan living such a long healthy life. He's a sweet handsome wolfdog! Keep it up. Lol!
