My aunt had a Rottie (Jezebelle), and when I was 5 years old, we used to go swim at her house all the time. Any time I would jump in when no adults were around, Jezzie would jump in and gently grab me by my arm and pull me out of the pool, until adults would be around. She was amazing, and even though she was not my family pet, I miss her deeply and often find myself thinking about her. Amazing breed!

We have a pool near our back patio and my Rottweiler Odin will put himself between my 2 year old daughter and the pool and will not let her get close to it unless she is with me or my wife. Completely instinctual, never taught him any of this, they are truly amazing animals that put the safety of their family above all else.

Those are the most athletic-looking Rottweilers I've ever seen. Powerful, yet lean and athletic.
@mathurinkerbouchard89315 күн бұрын
As it should be, right? Too many Rottweilers today are being bred as chunky, overly muscular and thick overall. And their legs seem to be shorter in proportion to their massive body size. Not to mention those that are being bred with a very short snout and huge foreheads.
@Robbie283 ай бұрын
We have had rotties in our lives nonstop since 1996 and I have to say, although people tend to focus on their protection, they are the perfect family companion. If you treat them as a valued family member (like you should all dogs as they are NOT possessions but very intelligent beings) you can't ask for a better friend, and protector. They do need consistency, but they learn fast and all they want to do is make their people happy...
@Kate-cr1fz3 ай бұрын
I have Rottweilers and I really appreciate you saying that they are not for everyone. They take a lot of consistent training, need to be very well socialised and not underestimated. With the right breeding and the right owners, I don’t believe there is a better breed either as a family dog or protection dog.

My father had a series of break ins at his factory in the late 80’s, I remember a security solutions guy telling him to get a pair of guard dogs. My dad was a firm believer of every dog deserves a second chance, so we set off to the dogs home and bought home 2 absolute adorable Rottweilers. They were lethal when on duty but just cuddly bears with the family. Rest assured we didn’t get broken into after that, even after the business closed down we still had them both till they crossed the rainbow 🌈

Nice to see a Rottweiler as he was born- tail intact. Yes, this breed was everywhere in the US in the early 90s. After an overbreeding and under-training they were the victim of breed discrimination. Very interesting, thank for this interview. From my (short) experience, Rotties that don't like to be cuddled can be changed with a lot of patience and respect. My female has always growled and showed disconfort from the beginning, but with time and training, she don't feel threatened anymore when my head is near her's, and even started to like kisses. Apart from this detail, what an amazing dog ! And yes it has natural agressivity that has to be channeled and well undestood.

My Mum got her first Rott in the late 1980s, having always had Corgis. She went to Rotts because she met one at the nature reserve where I worked and was impressed with her obedience and temperament. Are Rotts intelligent? Yes, so are Corgis. Stubborn? Not as much as Corgis. Trainable? Much easier than Corgis. And like Corgis, never let a Rott become top dog. If their person is in charge, Rotts are great. Mum's were always placid and good natured, family companions who would go 'on guard' to people coming around the house until they were introduced - and then they would remember that person and bark 'hello' in future if a member of the family was in. Away from the house, no issues with people or dogs. One of Mum's was on the lead and attacked by a Golden Retriever which was off the lead. Mum let go the lead and the dog ended on his back (shoulder-barged and tripped, not bitten) with Heidi standing over him while Mum (5'2"") gave the owner a piece of her mind. Third Rott would do whistle commands at long distances. Easy to train for that: I just converted from voiced commands, which she still did. Mum had a Spaniel at the same time, which was away with the fairies until she went stone deaf. Then she'd copy the Rott and both dogs would do whistle commands at distance. Go figure....

"a loyalty unmatched" akitas like: nani??? 🤔🤔🤔 love rottis...😍😍😍 when my daugther was 3yrs old, she called them "babyface bear"...or more like "babafizbaeh" (for her, bears were these fluffy big things, that are really strong and can be "bad ouch," but are so cute and have a babyface, just like rottis...) grew up with 2 in my neighbourhood and had to shelter one for 2 yrs, because the owners, who were close friends, had a little drug and alcohol problem and realized, they need therapy and in order to not lose him, they asked me to take care of him, which was kinda of a "problem" at first, because i had 7 huskies, 2 akitas, one wolf hybrid and a red nose pitty on my property at that time... and along comes this young, wild, untrained and a lil "disturbed" rotti... (loud music, alcohol excesses and drugs and fighting and screaming and - well - basically, the most toxic enviroment for a dog, that you can imagine...) but it worked out pretty well... the pack took care of him, his owners made it and hes back with his family, where he belongs... oh and one crazy story, of how tough these guys are... we were playing with him - his name was kane... one of my friends kicked the ball and it hit a wall, bounced off and went across the road... kane went for the ball, got hit by a bus - literally on the head - went spinning down the road for 4 to 5 meters...got up...got the ball and walked back to us, smiling like nothing happend... (dont worry, it was right at the bus stop, so the bus was slowing down...) disclaimer for all karens: yes, we went a saw a vet right away...

Can you maybe make a video on either of these breeds to show how effective they are in personal protection and how frequently they are used compared to other breeds?
