Pre-order the 10th Anniversary Edition of 'A Christmas Cornucopia': AnnieLennox.lnk.to/ChristmasC...
“For the 10th Anniversary of A Christmas Cornucopia we wanted to offer something a little bit different than the original album. Dido’s Lament was an almost forgotten recording I made a decade ago which was randomly unearthed from (co -producer) Mike Steven’s studio during lockdown earlier this year... It is the most profoundly haunting and melancholic aria from the opera written by English composer Henry Purcell approximately 300 years ago, where heartbroken Dido prepares to commit suicide. It occurred to me there was a comparison to the destruction human beings have brought upon the Planet. When it comes to climate catastrophe, we are on the edge of abyss. I really believe we don’t have much time left to make an effective change. We are looking at a civilization on the downwards side. This is the truth of this matter. It’s staring us in the face and we are not paying any significant attention -continuing on as if it doesn’t exist. I see Dido’s Lament as a lament for our dying planet.” - Annie Lennox

Amazing and so very beautiful. It is so moving. The pain and turmoil of Annie Lennox’s voice in this song causes such heartbreak. Phenomenal voice, phenomenal lyrics and a phenomenal video. What an early Christmas present. Thank you, Annie Lennox

Oh, my word. And I am lost for words. Breathtakingly, heart-achingly beautiful. Annie Lennox has taken this glorious and always-moving Purcell aria, respected the original and, together with the accompanying video, created something new; pointed, powerful, poignant and of the moment. Thank you Ms Lennox - always one of my favourite composers and singers. (My favourite original Dido? Janet Baker, naturally :-) But this version is now my joint favourite. And my first love is classical music, so this is some praise.)

She turned Dido's lament into Earth's lament. I wrote a script, many years ago, based upon the romance between Dido and Aeneas. This video clearly describes environmental issues.

It takes a lot of talent to interpret this artwork. Annie Lennox' is one of the best in the industry. Some classical and mythological works can be enlightened by a new generation of artists, who are also story tellers, that keeps the cultural movement's alive.

Thank you for your artistict gifts Ms. Lennox. Thank you for honoring and bringing to light Henry Purcell's artistic gifts. This video along with the beautiful song certainly brings out a powerful message we would do well to listen to and act upon. It is urgent that we work to save our planet. Our home is on fire. Individually and collectively we can end the destruction.

I've seen it twice - both times equally as powerful, equally as beautiful - that extraordinary voice - and both times in tears. What an anthem for the planet. What on earth have we done to it and the beautiful creatures we share it with? I hope this will help to raise awareness and individual action that will ultimately put sufficient pressure on governments worldwide to take horrifically belated steps for change before it's too late. I can dream....

It’s such an authentic sound, in plain song. I’m sure singers of Purcell’s time didn’t quaver around with vibrato. Lennox is vastly knowledgeable of her profession, such a professional. It irks me that her genre is given as only “pop”.

I just heard this on the radio last night while driving home and nearly crashed my car! :-S New material from Annie is always a treat, but... What a hauntingly beautiful and powerful recording! Utterly bewitching, sad, and yet fitting the messy situation we find ourselves in right now. A mess entirely of our own doing. Annie's voice cut's like a sunbeam through the murk and darkness of the world and gives hope and warmth to so many.

I am glad I am not the only one capable of this... For me it was 'Ecce Puer' (composer Vladimir Godar, sung by Iva Bitova) which nearly made me walk under a car at a crossing... And for this peace: unbelievably beautiful as-is and with Annie Lennox singing it even more so.

Synchronicity! It happens surprisingly frequently. I've lost count of the amount of times I'm typing or reading a word - often not a short or common word - or even a whole phrase at the same moment that the exact same word or phrase is spoken on the television or radio. It's quite magical.

Absolutely my response too. One of my very favourite classical arias (and my favourite version is by Janet Baker; yours?). But Annie Lennox is also one of my favourite singers - and with her version, and the accompanying video, she has respected Purcell, but re-purposed the piece to create a new and hugely powerful, poignant and profound message. Deeply moving.

Brilliant, profound, melodic and almost haunting. You’ve come a long way from the old Dave Stewart days. I love how you’re so all over the board with your different genres of music. Clearly classically trained. I remember meeting you at the village recorder when you were there and Dave got down his hands and knees and kissed your toes if I recall. You might not remember me, but I was there with my friend who worked for Geordie Hormel. I told you that my mum has the same haircut. I Always loved your style, you’re an amazing human.
