Am I the only that loved this beat. It feels calming and ethereal. Probably because I am a fan of Bjork Philip Glass and Muse and other futuristic industrial artists that I find this kind of music very surreal and puts me in a whimsical place above the skies into the deepest parts of the universe and for me that's hypnotic and transcendent.

I don't think any soundtrack, maybe even film, has ever encapsulated the true definition of what an alien is better. It is truly nothing like us - doesn't speak to us, doesn't look like us, might amuse us, might petrify us. Where lies the strangling fruit that came from the hand of the sinner I shall bring forth the seeds of the dead to share with the worms that gather in the darkness and surround the world with the power of their lives while from the dimlit halls of other places forms that never were and never could be writhe for the impatience of the few who never saw what could have been. In the black water with the sun shining at midnight, those fruit shall come ripe and in the darkness of that which is golden shall split open to reveal the revelation of the fatal softness in the earth. The shadows of the abyss are like the petals of a monstrous flower that shall blossom within the skull and expand the mind beyond what any man can bear, but whether it decays under the earth or above on green fields, or out to sea or in the very air, all shall come to revelation, and to revel, in the knowledge of the strangling fruit-and the hand of the sinner shall rejoice, for there is no sin in shadow or in light that the seeds of the dead cannot forgive.

Just imagined this. Pitch black darkness and some stars in the distance. Its like time stopped, you look at your hand, slowly rising. You feel it, your hand is there but also not. Your head turns away and all you see is a big glimmering light. Its doesnt blind you, you feel drawn towards it. An strange noise rings through your ears, theres no gravity. Somethings crawling down your spine, youre muscles shiver and calmness sets in. The noices start to intensify and something pulls you away from the light.

The 4 notes in the music that sounds "beep boop beep boop" is a set of notes called the 'dies irae'. We've been associating those notes with 'death' for hundreds of years. It was set of notes created by the gregorian catholic church to be played at funerals. If you pay enough attention, you can hear these 4 notes in every movie's soundtrack. Making the scene feels more grim. Example : mufasa's death in Lion King. You can hear the notes in the soundtrack.

I think someone else already said that, but I have to share my observation here. Notice, how in the beginning of the movie, when the comet is shown flying towards Earth, we hear guitar music, something well known to us. It sounds, let's say, "normal". Yet, when the story progresses, you can hear some synths thrown around, instruments, that are rather associated with aliens and unknown things. At the end, of course, the music; which is playing, when Lena gets to the lighthouse and meets the alien, the music is completly made of synths and ambient hum. This gives a next layer of immersion, where the Shimmer shifts and transforms even the music. I gotta say, this movie is an underrated masterpiece. It's a shame, that not that much people know about it.

@@allthingsdestructive Cosmic horror is by definition impossible to fully capturate in a movie. That Is beacouse in a book, most of the horror is created by your own immagination trying to visualize what you are reading. In a movie there is nothing to imagine beacouse it it directly showed to you. That negates the fear of the unknown. So no movie will EVER be able to capture the fear of the unknown, the only thing that comes close is a movie that shows a dark place where you can't see anything in it, beacouse again, the movie ISN'T showing you anything, so you are left wandering what might come out of the darkness, but if something does eventually comes out, it will never be as scary as what you expected.

I believe that what the being is doing is not something from our universe, but the macr verse. The being left it's place to enter the universe, somewhere where it could have power, and learn. It happen to land in the everglades seeking, learning, giving. For example the bear may have been a regular bear until the force of the being learned it's ways and then made it better through it's knowledge. once the creature was done it left a piece inside as most macroverse beings do. Inside to learn and study. The being was interested in life and what it was about. The bear was still itself but unaware and transformed aching in pain because of its evolution. Of course the bear became an apex predator but at a sacrifice. The shimmer is just the limit of the being, as it is restricted in our universe. This being was interested in life and wanted to make it better. The one question or doubt I have is how the being spread, in one way or as a radiance. I also wonder why life, maybe that's the first thing it noticed as it enter our universe. Sorry I just saw your comment and had to vent

I think I realize what makes this so creepy. We are used to natural progressions of sound fluctuating mostly toward a high or low note. The main melody doesn’t seem to do that, dodging somewhat erratically. On top of that, there’s a subtle rush in the notes, each note shortening. A slight crescendo, setting unease in your gut, as if there’s a danger you’re not fleeing because your senses aren’t picking up on it. Combine that with the synthetic nature of the sounds, and the whole thing FEELS alien. There’s no real progression you can predict in the music without listening multiple times: the melody is literally sneaking up on you, hitting you when you least expect.

People who didn’t see this in theatre will never understand just how much base there was with these four notes. Just like the lighting scene in RoS, the seats viberated with the intensity. One of the best parts of the movie, along with the bear and the flower garden scene.

The sound is so unique and foreign. I always imagine encounters with the supernatural to have some unexplainable sound and this fits the bill

Seriously such an amazing piece of Music, if you even want to call it that. It sounds like fucking alien language twisted into some abomination that resembled music, same way the shimmer refracted everything Inn the movie.
@JoeyKucumber6 жыл бұрын
Brendan James honestly I think that's what they were going for. Especially when she interacts with the alien, I think that's them trying to portray the alien attempting to communicate with her.

So droney if you know what i mean. All the music production in the film is amazing.

To be fair Black Panther had a much more powerful impact culturally speaking, while Annihilation was a rip off since I went to the movies expecting an adaption of THE FUCKING BOOK IT'S BASED OFF OF WHICH NONE OF WHICH WAS IN THE GODDAMN MOVIE Yes the movie was "okay" but claiming it to be based off the book, serve something completely different and have it not even be all the intresting after get expcations high is a fucking cop out

SummerSong Black Panther felt like a normal marvel movie, this movie was more unique IMO.
@KittyAwesomnessgirl16 жыл бұрын
@@alexjohnson7915 normal to you, sure. But for many in the black community and in regards to black cinema it's major. Annihilation is unique in the handling of sci-fi and brings new ideas for aliens, however it's still a cop out claiming to be based off the book when really all it shares is the title name. Maybe had Annihilation chosen a different name and chose to wait say a month or so after Black Panther it would have gained more ground. To be fair Black Panther has been hyped and very much anticipated since it's announcement and Annilahtion didn't receive much exposure or have as many advertisements which couldve factored into people not knowing what the movie even was

The song is just like any other organism in annihilation. Music cast through a prism, scattered, changed into something familiar, yet not at all what it used to be. Like an alien imitating music. Just like the alien imitated Lena.
