I just purchased this lube a couple of days ago and I’m I super impressed. It was a night and day difference. Not only does it make your chain ultra quiet , but you can actually feel less resistance when pedaling . This stuff is the best

What type of cleaning should/needs to be done on a new chain having factory protectant ("Cosmoline") before applying Synergetic? What type of cleaning should be done prior to relubing with Synergetic? Keeping in mind this is supposed to be the low hassle alternative to hot waxing. I'm used to using ProGold ProLink, which cleans and lubes at the same time.

Looks very impressive! I am going to buy some for my Mtb. But heres an intriguing question: Can this product ( the entire bottle) be added to an automotive engine for similar benefits ( within the engine oil capacity of 6 qts ) ? I regularly use 5w20 synthetic pennzoil ultra platinum. Perhaps an odd question, but still valid. Thanks!

Are these additives going to make their way into the hot melt and drip wax as well? I don't feel like going back to an oil based lube.

Just bought $100.0 worth of Silca Hot wax and drip wax a month ago. I just want to know which is better :) I do like the quiet running of the hot wax. How does the oil compare ?
@karlmikko3 жыл бұрын
Same here.
@SILCAVelo3 жыл бұрын
The oil is for people not willing or wanting to get into the full cleaning and maintenance regime that comes with wax. This is the best wet lube ever made from what we can tell, but it is only about 97% as good as drip wax and 96% as good as hot wax.

Hey Josh, I need you to chase down the USPS truck that's on it's way to Australia with my hotwax kit and chuck this in the back. What are your thoughts in using this in freewheels and other mechanical components? I've for many years been using T-9 lube in my freewheels (chains too until the silca package gets here) with good results. Curious on your thoughts.

Thanks Ben, we are currently testing for these other applications with great results, but wanting to be as thorough as possible before approving alternate uses or providing guidance..

Absolutely love your technical knowledge your instructional videos, The marginal gains podcast and of course the products. I’ve been waxing my chains for about a year now and have decided to use synergetic on mountain and gravel bike now. Do I need to get the chain superclean in preparation for its application like you do with chain waxing? I will be using the chains that I currently wax to swap over to the synergetic oil.Thanks so much love your work. Ben
@SILCAVelo2 жыл бұрын
The Synergetic will eventually displace all of the wax, so as long as the waxed chain is clean and free from debris, you can just put Synergetic right over the wax. It will take 4-5 applications to fully changeover and then you should get 750+ miles per application after that. Also be sure to wipe the outside of the chain after using Synergetic to get all the excess off.. no need for lube on the outside!

Thanks, Josh! Not to get sucked into marketing, which is the best option for my year round commuter in the PNW (WET!!!)? I've found hot waxing with your product to last not as long as I expected... Is this new product the better bet?

I'm commuting in the Pacific North Wet too and am interested to hear the response to Scott's question above. Also, how does this oil compare to the hot wax for wear of the chain and other drivetrain parts?
@HH60gPaveHawk3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’d be curious about this as well. Using wax on my commuter now, but it’s kind of a lot to have to totally strip and reapply 3-6 times a year.
@hawkeye50353 жыл бұрын
From Silca - “Thanks for your question. Wax will be great, but you need to re-apply after every wet ride so if you are in the UK or Seattle, you may not willing to do that for training rides. I would go with the Synergetic lube because you should still be wiping clean and reapplying after every wet ride but the process is a lot easier with Synergetic.”

Hi Josh, excellent work again by the Silca team. There so much great development work with chain lubes over the past few years that has really improved my drivetrain efficiency, keeping it clean and very quiet. For me a drivetrain that purrs is a thing of beauty. Could you let me know when it will be available with suppliers in the UK, as I’m keen to purchase for my winter bike.

Thanks Paul, our stockist in the UK is Saddleback and they should be in stock with Synergetic mid-December

Hey Josh, i love your lube products. I use the hotwax on my road bikes, with touchups using the drip wax. I use the Synergetic on my rain/commuter and on my MTB. I've noticed that both the drip wax and the Synergetic seem to have a problem with the ingredients separating in the bottle. The drip wax seems especially bad, but I see some dark sludgy stuff at the bottom of the Synergetic bottle that I can't seem to shake loose. Is this a problem? Any suggestions for re-mixing these ingredients prior to application?
@SILCAVelo2 жыл бұрын
The tungsten disulfide is nano-scale, but also quite dense, so it will both separate, and also will permanently stain the bottle as the particles are smaller than the micro-crevices in the bottle itself. We put extra in the mix to account for this, so don't worry about it! For agitating, I recommend turning the bottles upside down for a few minutes to allow gravity to get the particles moving, then agitate by shaking. Some people also store the bottles upside down to ensure every last little bit of tungsten can be utilized.
@Gieszkanne5 ай бұрын
@@SILCAVelo Could you tell me what nano size its exactly?
@Gieszkanne Жыл бұрын
You said that its ok to wipe the chain dry if you clean it. The oil that stay inside is enough. But some chains will need oil from the outside too for corrosion protection.
@SILCAVelo Жыл бұрын
Even after some considerable wiping of the outside of the chain you will still have enough residual oil to protect from corrosion. The key is to balance a micron scale film of oil that provides some corrosion protection yet isn't thick enough or wet enough to allow dirt, dust, and sand to adhere.
@kenji12043 жыл бұрын
Beyond cleaning chain as prescribed before hot wax chain application, is there any other procedure for switching back to wax based chain lube from wet-lube?

@@SILCAVelo I have 2250 miles on my bike and the Shimano 105 chain is still under .5% stretch. Only used the Silca secret wax so far on it. It is a pedal assist e-bike too. That is really good I think. I will strip the chain and try the wet, but wont be surprised if I go back to the wax based.
