Yes, music (the singing congregation in KHs) in the 70’s when I was in were words of praise to the Organization. I ALWAYS felt empty of Jesus and Holy Spirit. There was no joy, no belting out a beautiful soul-felt song. Dull, acapello, words to praise the WT. period. The first time I heard real lusty heartfelt music adoring Jesus at some church after I was disfellowshipped, I cried and cried for the joy. I bought a whole bunch of happy joyful music, and played it constantly. I was hungry for the Person of the Holy Spirit. Music is emotive. I was an Art and Music Therapist and music releases feelings by tone, vibration, the soul is touched or excited. Of course I learned all this after I pursued HIGHER EDUCATION once I was free. Think of North Korea and the work and re-education songs they made their poor sing over and over. But...to me, the WT music was and is the worst indoctrination boring unprofessional unemotional crap I’ve ever heard. Sure: be very careful. If it touches you deeply and releases your tears and your love and moves vibrantly through your spiritual and human body, bask in it. Duty-filled “melodies?!” are going to make your shoulders sag, bring down your souls. Beware then of ALL WT methods of trying to get members to praise and serve these governing body men. Follow no man.

Perhaps you are projecting your personal feelings of your experience onto others where it didn't exist. I was a professional musician when I joined, as was my wife. We gave that up for the ministry. Both if us enjoyed the Kingdom Melodies and sang with genuine feeling. Some songs appealed to me more than others, as is to be expected. In the various conversations we attended, some sang with verve, some didn't. Quite normal. I was a "born again" who attended different churches of different sizes before. Some with choirs. Since leaving WT, I have attended a variety of churches is my area, as well as live online services. I experienced the same variety and differences from congregation to congregation in every church! No different than the kingdom hall. In fact, churches I've attended since often have this "music ministry" where a full band basically performs a concert and most people do not sing at all. Just a "show" I am educated in music as well. Also,I have independently studied indoctrination and propaganda techniques since the 70's and did so throughout my 30 or so years as an adult JW. Frankly, I am completely befuddled by the mention of some communist-style, soulless repetitive song for indoctrination. With all due respect, I think your taking your criticisms to an extreme that doesn't stand up to object scrutiny. But alas, we each can have our own views,and with that said, I bid you peace.

That song has always disturbed me because, as JW's, we were taught that praise songs during meetings = a form worship, and I feel this song worships the GB. We used to sing songs of praise exclusively to Jehovah and Jesus (this is technically worship and I support this). But I don't feel JW songs about 'young ones', 'cart's or 'women' are in this category of 'worship's songs because of their wording and context. For example, since, bethelites, circuit overseers, convention speakers and elders don't pray for 'young ones', 'carts' or 'women' with the same praise, frequency, and veracity as they do for the GB, the songs about the GB are clearly in a special category in JW culture. When JW's use praise songs about the human leadership of the JW organization, in a worship setting like this annual meeting, it is the equivalent of worshiping men. They're unapologetically putting the praise of God and Jesus on the same 'sacred' level as the GB. It's more than shameful.

As I watched and listened to that opening montage of songs and video clips I did indeed feel my heart strings being plucked as I remembered engaging in those very activities with some of those same individuals in the places depicted, what I erringly thought at the time was sacred service. This clever deception was still tugging at my heart strings even though I knew better. We have been out almost 30 years. When I first heard about the JW website I went there to see some of those videos. They were so cheesy and melodramatic that I couldn't watch. I could plainly see that they were using emotions rather than fact and reason to control the weak minded. Yes we try to help our old friends escape but you only have a few seconds before they think "This speech is shocking, who can listen to it?" just as Jesus himself was told! Coincidentally, in today's news I saw this story: "Narcotics and psychological warfare are the biggest challenges before humanity," Religion is often the drug of choice. WOW!

Personally poignant for me that, at the end of the message, Eric mentioned that the Evil one doesn’t care if we just walk away from the WT as long as we give up. I read a very good article years ago about not letting the bad make us bad. I am desperately fighting that right now. Seem one factor is left out of a lot of discussion. The use of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 25 shows how people are surprised they passed the test. Perhaps it was a test to see if the Holy Spirit can be influential in your decision. Matthew 7, Christians didn’t perceive God’s will through the spirit, they did what they wanted. The endgame is all of his sheep will hear his voice and be given a great opportunity. If you are so stuck in staying in your cradle and not seeing things the spirit guides you to, that will be on you. The big thing the WT relies on is men and appearances. Remember the whitewashed graves, but don’t look too deep. Following men had not worked out for the Israelites especially killing Jesus.

It's not the song so much as its misapplication to men who are not in need of merciful acts, unless you mean the merciful act of warning them of their sin. How many of you believe that the name of the only Son of the Creator is "Jesus"? the name of the Son is not "Jesus" because it expresses no meaning. In Hebrew it is different, it has a specific meaning: the Son of YAHUAH (יהוה) contains the name of his Father. It is called YAHUSHA (יהושע), which means "YAHUAH is salvation". "YAHU" is short for YAHUAH and "sha" (שע) is "salvation" in Hebrew. We do not use the name that the Romans or Greeks chose but the one that his Father chose.

Is there really such a thing as a "Christian"? Jesus came to earth and gave willing men of the time a commission to gather in 144,000 (symbolic no doubt) others who would go to Heaven to rule with Jesus over the new system. It was a one off job - it has been done, a long long time ago. There never was a "religion". Any more than Noah's building an ark was the beginning of a new religion. Religions are an invention of man, a way to pay lip service to serving God. Replacing a personal relationship with a public performance. One can't "follow" Jesus to Heaven now to rule with him. He is not on hand to give us instructions on what to do next. It's just a fantasy.

Rev. 14:4 says, "...They follow the Lamb wherever He goes....". People today are still becoming followers of Christ. People today are learning of his sacrifice for us and are partaking of the bread and the wine. I partook for the first time three years ago. @antonypelling9194 Matthew chapter 20 is a parable that only applies to the children of God, spirit anointed Christians. There is no hope extended to non-believers, that is the unrighteous. Paul had hope that the unrighteous would also be resurrected, but he didn't go preaching that as a hope for them to embrace. "Hey, folks. You could be a child of God right now, but if you want to continue to practice sin and reject God's offer, no worries. You'll be resurrected anyway, so just go for it." I don't see that "earthly hope message" that JWs preach found anywhere in the preaching of the first century Christians. You say that you don't feel like a second class citizen, but the fact is that if you don't accept the offer of citizenship in the heavens (Phil. 3:20) then you are not a citizen at all, second class or otherwise. Please recognize the danger of accepting the false hope of the JW good news.

When examining the JWS religion one should reflect upon the fact that 1914 was firstly concocted by the WTS heads ( late 1800's) through Pyramidology dating and that Christ took upon his heavenly throne in 1874, 1914 was suppose to be the most likely year of Armageddon . This was all done by measuring the great Pyramid of Giza. Stupid theology if there ever was one. The past WTS head J Rutherford (1916) just recalculated a new formula to create something significate about 1914 again as a means to promote the enhancing his own literature proliferation and sales. One might call this corrupt dishonest religious charlatanism but that's exactly what this was, developed by men running their own publishing house called " The Watchtower Corporation " As one can see there is a lot of false apostate teachings inherently originating in the JWS religion and their tainted and commercialized version of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
