Ah yes, the old "I have a large cache of love letters covered in various exotic lipsticks" argument😅

The Church in America is giving out almost 100% annulments. Even to marriages that one party doesn’t want an annulment

Whatever about the church in America’s practices around granting annulments- its not a problem at all if one party doesn’t want an annulment. As father Brendan said in the video - it only takes one party in a marriage to make the whole marriage invalid. If one person did not intend to uphold all of the core elements of a marriage when getting married then the whole marriage is invalid and an annulment can be granted. The legitimacy of the annulment is not impacted in any way by whether one of the parties does not want the annulment to be granted.

@@Mike-xb3pr there is a huge problem with granting annulments these days. Not that long ago very few annulments were allowed because the Catholic thing to do was to go to a priest if there is a problem in a marriage and then the priest helped solve the problem by correction. These days annulments are given for many reasons and is as common as divorce. It’s a shambles, like most of the institutions.

I think it might be similar in Ireland. My parents grew apart and when we were teenagers my mother wanted an annulment, I could not see how it could be granted but it was. Nearly broke my Dad, definitely broke his heart. It was all for nothing as they continued to live together (but separately)

Surely a civil divorce cannot break a marriage bond as a civil marriage is not a marriage in the eyes of the church. I would view a divorce as an end to my civil marriage and should I want to, if and only if I was granted a church annulment, to be the able to marry again.
