I'm carrying my Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in S45VN and my Civivi Bo in NITRO-V. Just recently spent 30 seconds in the kitchen refreshing the edge on my Bo using a steel from my kitchen knife set. Hair popping sharp again. I really enjoy your sharpening videos. Still haven't had to sharpen my blade in 80CRV2 basically because it hasn't been used. Glad you are having some success with this blade. Thanks for the content.

To be clear, I have not used 80CRV2. However, I've had a similar experience with deburring my Japanese kitchen knives in VG10 (61rc). Started sharpening on diamond stones, then continued on my Spyderco ceramic stones (medium, fine, extra fine). I couldn't debur them. I tried different pressure, adding water, then mineral oil, angle guides, strops, nothing worked. I finally went back to deburring on my Ultimate Edge ultra fine diamond steel before stropping, and that did the trick. I don't know why I can do it handheld, but can't do it on bench stones. There's definitely something I'm doing different, I simply can't identify it. Thank you for your videos. I'd been thinking about adding a piece in 80CRV2, but have decided against it.

There are definitely more like… user friendly steels out there hahap

It may not be run hard enough. 80CrV2 is about the same toughness as 3V. I run it hard even if a little toughness is lost it is still tougher than most steels. To give you an idea, my target is 62 to 63 HRC. I have only made a couple knives (so far so good) in 80CrV2, but have a few coming up this summer. Also I just epoxied the handles on the knives this weekend and will try to sand them down in the next day or two. Then you will have a choice of 2 knives and I will have to make a sheath. I have a new idea for pocket carry in mind that should be really nice. I think I'll make 2 prototypes, one for you and one for me.

Hey K!!! I am SO excited to try one of your knives. I can’t wait!!!! I think this is like 62/63 … it should be good!!!!

Today I’m carrying my Gerber Slimsada D2 frame lock. Last night I ordered two Gerber Mansfield D2 slip joint knives, one in natural micarta and one in green micarta, which most knife sellers are charging $40 ea. However, I ordered from a big Illinois knife seller for $8.63 each. Can’t wait to hold them in hand. I enjoyed your sharpening video.

I swear Chicago knife works is Blue Ridge’s preferred liquidation retailer because so many knives/products drop ship directly from Blue Ridge for what has to be at or nearly at wholesale cost. It definitely provides for some great deals if you sift through the massive amount of listings!

That's a pretty edge you ended up with👍Whenever I've got a stubborn burr like that, some 3 micron gunny juice followed by some green compound usually does the trick for me. Never tried using bass wood before, might have to give that a try sometime. Great video, E!🤟

I've never seen a PBK do that. Allen's knives usually tune right up. I got my Hunter's EDC in 80CRV2 sharp with the diamond hone on a Leatherman Signal. My guess would be that you probably got an oddball. I actually carried the Glock knife today. Definitely doesn't hold an edge for shit but since it's actually meant to be a bayonette I can understand it being a bit soft so it won't snap when it goes through ribs

@@ericasedc it is possible. I've had an SC5, two Essentials, my Diablo prototype, and 3 Hunter's EDCs from Allen and all were the best 80CRV2, Magnacut, and AEBL I've ever used on fixed blades. This is the first one of his blades I've ever seen be difficult to tune up

Language, Erica! MY VIRGIN EARS!!! 😇 I’m currently not carrying anything. Just watching you inside. But I am looking at getting a new knife. And I’m looking at some lock backs and slip joints which I have zero of beyond my granddads old timers. Looking at a Manly Wasp in s90v. A Civivi Appalachian drifter in S35VN. A QSP worker in N690. And a Kansept wedge in S35VN. Sounds like my newb @$$ will stay away from that steel that you have in this video.

Ive never had good luck with 80crv2. Its too soft. I hand sharpen all my edges. If i have the time, I usually go up to a 3k diamond stone and then work my way up with stropping compounds from 5k to 100k for ultimate mirror polish. My job also requires me to use a knife every two seconds doing linework. I've gotten very good at putting a very good edge on in the field with only a few stones and a small field strop. In my experience, I'd rather sharpen 15V than a super soft carbon steel. I've found the super soft carbon steels hard to remove the bur/wire. Sometimes even a strop will just fold the bur to the other side and it just becomes a massive pain to sharpen. All our dedicated cable splicing and skinning knives are made from some ridiculously soft carbon steel and it's so annoying sharpening them. Mora made a good hawkbill linemen knife that was 14c28n and I buy them every time I find one. I would like to have one made at least out of 1095 so it sharpens up better because I am fond of carbon steel and patina.

I agree absolutely. I don’t really enjoy 80CRV2,52100,O1,1075 etc. they have to be done REALLY well for me to enjoy using them. Typically they’re just a pain in my ass😂
