Hei, Thale! Thanks a lot for a beautiful reaction to this masterpiece by Angelina. I love to watch people's reaction when she starts to sing, it's as if they're never REALLY prepared for her voice 🙂 I'm also happy that you liked her rendition of the song. Again, it was her own arrangement. At age 16, or at any age really, it takes some serious guts to do what she did here IMO. -Taking one of the absolute classics from the King himself, and then flipping the song almost on it's head. Here she both starts and ends the song with the song's original bridge, and on top of that she slooooows the whole song down, making sure that you really hear the lyrics, as well as her beautiful voice. Many people have said that when they hear Angelina sing a song, it's as if they hear the song for the very first time, making them experience and understand what the song talks about. Slowing songs down is one of Angelina's absolute trademarks, as you will come to see when you continue down her catalogue. Btw, if you saw the thumbnail that popped up at the end of the video, it was from her version of I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston. She was pretty much exactly the same age as in THIS one (16,5) and the black and white recording took place in the exact same location as well. I mentioned in one of your previous reactions that she also performed that song on Allsang På Grensen when she was 16, and IMO, if you want to hear Angelina perform the song, then use her live version from said venue. It is one of her best live performances I think. Recorded only a few weeks before I got to see her live at Kurbadhagen in Sandefjord on July 10th 2022. It's easily my best musical experience to date 🙂 IF you choose to react to her live performance, then do well to keep in mind that what you hear is her second performance, back to back, due to technical difficulties during the first take (heavy wind). The producer gave her roughly 1 minute, pulled her closer to the main stage, and then she had to do it all over again. One of the most demanding songs to sing ever written. And first time live on a stage in more than 2 years. The last time was on America's Got Talent at age 13. Still she came out like it was nothing, no visible or audible nerves whatsoever. Another thing worth noting is that she landed from LA that same morning, so you have to imagine that she was suffering from jet lag as well. SUCH a pro at age 16. And WAY earlier than that as well obviously 😉 She's a definite one off in MY book. I'm looking forward to more reactions to Angelina, Thale. Take care! Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

I graduated high school the year Elvis covered this Mark James song. E sang this with a little cry in his voice on the record, but really hyped it up in the stage performances along with a full orchestra and a choir. Angelina walks in with the Pricilla hair, Elvis black leather, a copy of the same guitar he played and with Rob playing piano while wearing the same jump suit his back up players wore. Just a guitar and a piano and HER arrangement. Sublime!

My interpretation of the symbolism of this music video: First, and foremost; Angelina Jordan at 16 is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances. In this video we see her as a married woman in her mid to late 20s. As the video starts out, we see dishes, and it is a symbol of a home. As AJ sings the phrase “Were caught in a trap, I can’t walk out” we see 3 small children, this to me is a marriage where the children come first. Have never listened to the lyrics in the Elvis version, but this version... i get it ❤ The arrangement suits the lyrics. The Elvis version felt to fast and like party vibe, where i felt the lyrics was off to that beat.

From the very first words, the warmth, tone, passion and sweetness that Angelina manages to instill in this mythical song are truly incredible, you just wish the song was much longer. Her phrasing, backed by her wonderful use of breath and her peculiar jazz tone, always fascinates me and gives me chills every time, I love this absolutely amazing, so personal rewrite of this iconic song, with so many Elvis tribute details. Now it's a different song, but it's also the same, it still has that harmony, but somehow (in a way only Angelina can process) it's even more emotional, it's slower, but it's so close to your soul flow that kidnaps you. 💛🧡❤

Uncle John, the "Big Hair" is a tribute to Pricilla Presley, the shiny boots, black leather jumpsuit & red Hagstrom hollow-body guitar is the same make & model Elvis used. The red jumpsuit of the pianist, Rob Christie, is the same as his band members wore. Angelina pays attention to details in her music videos, just sayin'!!!
