Just bought it. It was what I wanted for Christmas last year. But of course nobody would buy me a 1400 dollar guitar. I just picked one up for 900. Totally brand new. In fact if someone wants to buy the travel guitar and lives in Los Angeles I can turn you onto the guy. He's got one to sell for 400. He sold me the LAVA U Ukelele for 110 dollar. That one is f*cking amazing because the "space case" it comes in is worth 110 dollars all by itself. It looks like the sleep chambers in the movie Alien. And opens in a really bizarre way. I bought the smaller Lava Me 2 last year because I do a lot of outdoor acoustic-electric gigs (pre-pandemic and hopefully soon again), and the weather in England is brutal on my Taylors and Ovations. The Lava Me 2 was a shocking surprise - it’s sounds bigger and plays better than I would’ve imagined. I’m using it indoors, too. Didn’t know about the Pro until I stumbled onto your video - well presented, fair points. It took me a long time to go from wood to lyrachord (Ovation), and another long time to partake of carbon fibre, but I’m opening up to everything these days. Whatever next?!

I first bought the Lava Me 2 (after seeing Mary's first video), but returned it because it was too small. Then bought this Lava Me Pro, and also returned it. The curved back is just too slippy. That guitar just wants to slide off your lap. Also, given the price (about $1500 with tax USD), the headstock should be nicer. There were some quality control issues on the fretboard as well. Lava Music has PHENOMENAL support. They really want their customers to be happy. If Lava Music made a full size acoustic with the body of the Lava Me 2 and the features/sound of the Lava Me Pro, they'd really have something special. I have a Martin HD-28, a Taylor 414ce Special Edition, and a Martin Cowboy X. Neither of the Lava guitars sound as good. They sound like the new Martin X series but with built-in effects capabilities. So...$800-1500 for a guitar that sounds like $500-600, but with built-in effects and looks awesome.

@Al_Swilling4 жыл бұрын
The only thing about a "Bluegrass" approach is that only traditional strictly acoustic instruments are allowed in Bluegrass competition; and many Bluegrass fans and critics don't consider you to be a "real" Bluegrass band or performer if electric or electrified instruments are used. I'm afraid that a carbon fiber guitar with special effects built in will not "cut the mustard" in most Bluegrass circles. On the other hand, Country music, and Folk music are more lenient and forgiving. It would be interesting, though, to hear this guitar performing Bluegrass, Country, and Folk music. I mean, an electric bass sounds amazing with all three genres. I would like to hear it in action in these genres just in the interest of fairness and open-mindedness.

It's very nice. I'd be willing to own one. However, the same exact carbon technology was made by Ovation, way back in the '80's, and they still use it today, with most of their models, on both their Ovation, and their Applause, models. I owned an Applause, it was great, because the action was outstanding! The sound on it was nearly identical to this carbon guitar, same technologies and materials, but it had a bit fuller and brighter tone, so I'd rate it one star better. The Applause is very affordable, in the $200 range, so it might be a better bargain, but this one here is very nice to have too! I should add that Applause is one of those makes you can't get right now, have to back order, unless they're a used one (I don't recommend going for a used one, too risky, due to the neck issues.) Martin is mostly on back order too, so, for me, I'm going to buy a couple Guilds, as they are available, and I've been planning to get them, anyway, now, in April 2021. Maybe by June or July or September, all these factories will re-open, once the covidd crisis is over, and the economy rebounds. Right now, guitar companies are doing different strategies, but some are shut down completely, and you can't get certain models, or any of that company's models. So, if you want a carbon guitar right away, this one might be great one, to order, at present, for it's immediate availability. This carbon neck type of design, can be vulnerable to necks breaking (the Applause models do), after a few years, due to design flaws in the carbon technology. This is a problem, and it happened to mine, so I bought a normal Yamaha acoustic guitar, instead (very durable.) At the time, in the mid 1980's, the Applause necks weren''t really fixable. Now, I'm not sure what happens, with this guitar, with any potential neck repair issues, or the latest Applause or Ovations, but it's good to ask a knowledgeable guitar tech, or luthier, for their opinion on it, before committing to a purchase.

My biggest gripe is with the rounded back. My first acoustic was a 1985 Ovation. Sounded great but it gave me terrible shoulder and back pain/burning sensation (even as a teenager) after playing more than a half hour. Thanks for the video. I followed your link to the manufacturers website that I found short on specifics like just how wide is the neck (at the nut). Neck width is an important consideration for me, I can get by with 1.8" but I'd prefer 1.9" or better yet 2". If I'm going to spend that much money on a guitar I'd like a wide neck option.

This guitar reminds me the old disagreement between tube and solid state amplifier fans. The mid-bass is pronounced and flatters but the decay and reverberation is lacking, giving it a nasal sound.

Yo-Yo Ma, the greatest Cellist alive, often tours with his carbon fibre cello. This guy owns a Stradivari Cello for cryin out loud, yet he still uses his carbon fibre cello. If it's good enough for Yo-Yo Ma, it's good enough for me, and most of you guys.

I'm surprised they didn't decide to wedge the upper edge of the lower bout. It's a very valid trend with builders these days, making a huge difference in player comfort. Seems it would be easy to do as these are not 'shaped' but are probably stamped out from a pattern akin to a 3d printer setup. Nice sound though...

Save the Trees use Carbon Fiber...
@DavyHulme4 жыл бұрын
Carbon *fibre* is difficult, dirty, wasteful & energy expensive to produce. It also uses petroleum oil as a base to manufacture acrylonitrile. And it's not been possible to recycle carbon fibre either - it ends up in landfill. Research is ongoing into making production less wasteful & less reliant on the petrochemical industry thus end product recyclable but it's not there yet. Overall, the environmental impact of carbon fibre is likely somewhat higher than using wood. Particularly as we *could* harvest wood sustainably from re-growth forests (ie not felling ancient/mature forests) for manufacturing guitars or use reclaimed wood from buildings, for example as Rick Kelly does at Carmine Street Guitars & Cindy Guitars.

@@DavyHulme Yes I know all of that I was being Sarcastic .. You did a good job of poiting out why Wood is not that of of a choice so long as you are not Gibson Guitar and have given Contributions to Conservative Poloticians.. Thus the IRS Swat Team raids your Factory comfinscates $1 Million worth of RoseWood and costs you $10 Million in Legal fees to defend yourself.. In which case Gibosn would have been far better off building Carbon Fiber Guitars..

@@mikeskidmore6754 Fair enough. I did vaguely have Gibson's Madagascar Ebony & Indian Rosewood episodes, CITES regs etc in mind. Tbh I don't have v much sympathy with Gibson re: the FWS raids; they were charged under the Lacey Act (iirc) for *knowing* that they were using illegally sourced/imported tropical hardwoods. Ta, will listen to Juszkiewicz's story later, but I guess he isn't gonna mention Gibson's 2018 bankruptcy under his watch was in large part due to borrowing $300 million trying to acquire Royal Philips (Philips electronics) & the - ill-thought-out - rebranding he pushed?
