Susan strikes again! Ok... different Susan this time, but she's just as bad. This was a story that I posted a while back and have since deleted, but I wanted to retell it in a calmer way lol. This story also teaches a really good lesson on why color will look different in real life versus a photo. Hopefully you find this entertaining and learn something from it! :)

I don't know about that. If they know they made a mistake or didn't give what the client wanted, they should fix it for free or if that's not possible, give a discount. The two last times i cut my hair they cut it several inches shorter than I asked, I need to tie it up for work, the first one admitted his mistake yet didn't offer me a discount or even a blow dry. The second wouldn't even admit his wrongdoing, made a bunch of excuses and they charged me triple what they estimated, for a simple wash, cut and blowdry that I asked for. They charged me for flat ironing my hair that I didn't ask for and because of the time it took for the cut, which was supposed to be up to the collar bone with long layers and he gave me a straight, flat shoulder length cut. I'm sure they had that mentality of charging every penny, even though they don't deserve it because of their inflated ego aka self worth. And they probably thought me telling them it was too short and that it wasn't the price they had originally told me, was me "throwing a fit", when it was just the truth.

elines acevedo girl there’s a difference between being a Susan throwing a fit, a genuine mistake, and a shitty stylist 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe find a better hairdresser lol
@gretaj2214
@gretaj2214 4 жыл бұрын
elines acevedo also an estimate is called an estimate for a reason. It’s an estimated amount. Not the exact amount. If you’re broke and not willing to pay the stylists worth, find someone cheaper. Can’t walk in and request a 12$ haircut with thick hair down to ur ass sweetheart
@jelatinosa
@jelatinosa 4 жыл бұрын
@@gretaj2214 A better hairdresser? That's just the thing. I've been to several stylists and most are just shitty, self-aggrandizing, egomaniacal people. If I go in asking for a wash, cut and dry and they give me an estimate of say $30, they butcher my hair and then ask for $90, you think that's fair? I wish I had thick hair I could grow down to my waist! I needed like 3 or 4 inches cut max, and they decide to cut like half a foot of my length when I specifically asked them not to cut it so short I couldn't tie it up for work. Then because of his inability to cut proper layers he flat irons my hair without asking or telling me it's an extra cost, and you think it's fair because it's just an "estimate, not the exact amount"? Do you even know what the point of an estimate is? It's supposed to be approximate to the amount. 3X more is not at all approximate, especially if it's in something you are trained to do. That is a scam! I probably should have gone all Susan on their asses and refused to pay that inflated amount. I should have just walked out actually, not given them a dime. Learned my lesson. Those asshole stylists are what create "Susans".

I was the same way but I've worked really hard to overcome it. I think as long as you're polite, there shouldn't be a problem. I guess the way I see it is, I'll be polite but try to get what I want (within reason) because I'm paying. For example I had a stylist cut my hair but she didn't put hardly any layers like I asked for. I nicely asked of she could cut some more and it was fine! If they have an issue with that, that's their problem not mine. I had to get over the fact that not everyone will like me and that's okay! But I haven't had any problems yet!

Nothing2Where I never said patients are “problematic”. Never used that term. I said I don’t know how she can continue to do people’s hair with a smile on her face after getting treated like crap. In nursing, you can take a step away and gather yourself. You can’t do that at a salon, you have to finish their hair while in an awkward situation. I’m a psych nurse and I’ve been treated like complete trash but I absolutely love my job working with the severely persistent mentally ill population in the community in their homes and it’s my passion, and I’m going to be a psych NP. But guess what, there are patients out there that while yes, are sick, CHOOSE to be rude and I’m sorry If you allow patients to cross boundaries but sometimes it is absolutely unacceptable. And I am allowed to be frustrated about that. Nursing isn’t rainbows and butterflies.. it’s hard most of the time. I’ve been threatened, screamed at, called nasty names, charged at, doors slammed in my face.. all in the community in the clients environment which can include crack houses as well as bad neighborhoods and thank God I have never been assaulted. I LOVE being a nurse. But the reality is is that we have feelings too and it is possible to be frustrated and annoyed about it and still be a caring and compassionate nurse and take care of the rude patients WITH a smile on my face.

I had a reverse experience. When I was a teen, I went to an upscale salon with an inspo photo and asked if I could have it done. The hairdresser had a look at it, and sent me to make an appointment. After I left, she proceeded to talk shit about me with the client she was working on. How my hair was not a good fit for that particular haircut, how she would just do it and charge me extra for other services. How I would just pay because I seemed like a ditzy teen with too much money. She was horrid. I'm sure you are asking yourself how I found out about her behavior. The client she was working on, and decided to talk shit to, was my mother.

Agreed, you will NEVER get the same hair results as someone else even if they could exactly duplicate the same products and procedures on your hair, from start to finish! Hair texture, porosity, base color, general condition, colored and virgin hair are all factored in. My suggestion to this so-called Susan is just DIY if no one can please your picky butt! If you fry or burn off your hair or if it falls out, you can blame yourself, lady! Also, if you can't afford to have nice expensive trendy hair, be like the rest of us who can't even afford a basic haircut, go without or DIY!

When I was doing my Bachelors Degree graduation hair done my lovely hairstylist looked at the pics and told me we can do it but it will be a bit shorter as your hair isn't as long. I was like "of course it will be, that's no issue" and she told me how often people complain about random stuff like that. Your hair is a certain length, thickness and shade. You can change it up a lot but it cannot always look exactly the same. Do you know how often these pictures are of wigs? Or people with a lot of extensions so their hair looks thicker? Or getting a super ashy tone if you naturally have a reddish tone to your hair. Obviously there are miracle workers but people honestly just look at one image just as the video says. They don't see the hair in different lightings, hairstyles and so forth because that is what opens your eyes.

But honestly it makes me feel so much better hearing other people’s horror stories because it makes me know and realize it’s not just me dealing with crazy clients. There’s been times where I literally wanted to give up doing hair because I felt like it was just me dealing with this.

Colour looking different in different lights part made me laugh; I have very long dyed red hair, and there’s a slight ombré too it. It’s a much more true red at the top and slightly orangey in the lengths and I love it...but I love it most in the toilets at work or in my boyfriends local pub. The red just catches the light more I think, or it’s the tone of the lights...ironically, both those places are also where I’ve gotten most compliments on my hair!

The lady that does my microblading is £180 ($237) which is hella cheap! I was expecting a lot more. The price includes the consultation, the procedure, the top up and the aftercare. She’d be charging more if she was in a bigger city rather than a little town I’m in. Also, I’m not sure if it applies to everyone who microblades, but when I go back to her it will only be $80 onward for the upkeep because the time has already been spent measuring and consulting etc. Things like hair, eyebrows etc are luxuries don’t have to get them done if you think they’re expensive. Stop moaning Susan.

Just a heads up for the comment you said about her saying she wants the exact photo and then saying she doesn't. I've seen that photo before. In fact, I wanted this exact haircut not too long ago. But us, non hairstylists, don't notice the details at all. I didn't know it was shorter in the back, even now looking at the picture, I don't really see it that much. Hell, I didn't even notice the roots were black. When you look at a photo, you think "oh i need to do this, then do that and finish with that" but when we, customers, look at a photo we just think "wow this is SOOO pretty, i want exactly that, no matter what" without realizing sometimes it's blond and we are black so we need multiple treatments, and so on. I think you did a great job explaining it to her though and I personally have huge anxiety so I absolutely LOVE IT when my hairstylist takes the time to ask me questions about what I want. It makes me feel like she knows what she is doing and I get much more comfortable.

I praise you for acknowledging what you could have done better in terms of the consultation, but I really think she was just a difficult client. No reasonable person goes to a hair salon expecting their hair to look EXACTLY like the photo. There will always be some variation due to the interpretation of the photo, the lighting in the photo and the studio, and the texture and colour of the hair itself

Hey sis lil tip, from my experience as a salon manager previously (Rush hair, U.K), Two of our MAIN POLICIES: 1- never do a telephone consultation. (It’s near impossible even if they explain their hair) 2- never give a quote over the phone until you have seen the hair and had a consultation- as typically clients aren’t hair experts. So they don’t know about greys, undertones, coverage... And you may need toners- added colours etc Good luck xxxxx

Hi, I fully understand your story, and think your client sounds quite demanding. My story.... I booked an appointment for a bob cut, with a stylist I had use a couple times before. When I arrived I was told my stylist had had to go home early, but that (let’s call her) Susan will be cutting my hair. My hair was washed and I was lead to a chair. My hair was combed out and twice Susan pulled a knot out yanking my head back causing me to reach up and touch my head. Susan was apologetic. At this time the only other people in the salon was a lady having her nails done and a stylist doing the nails. Susan took so long sectioning my hair, I began to get a little nervous, but this was a somewhat older stylist, so I was perplexed as to why she was taking so long. Then when she had done just one cut, the stylist doing to nails shouted over, “what are you doing” where upon she came over and showed her how to make the cut. As you’d expect, I was now really nervous, the nail stylist stood and watch while Susan did another cut, only to have the scissors taken from her, and the nail stylist did a couple cuts on my hair. She gave Susan the scissors back, and I said “I’m sorry, but I’m feeling really nervous right now, maybe I should rebook the appointment “ where upon Susan did another cut, and nail stylist took the scissors from her again. I was about to get out of the chair, when nail stylist turned and said to her client, that she would just be a few minutes, and she cut my hair so quickly and absolutely beautifully, my hair looked so pretty. I felt sorry for Susan, but I’m also glad she didn’t cut my hair.

other than my name lol 😆 i guess I’m one of them in the bad percentile. I have been a salon hopper as you call it for about 3 years since I moved back to the city and this is not because I want to be one. I wish I could upload my pictures I have as proof I’m not overly picky or trying to get money off. I’d say I’ve gotten only about 3 good cuts. And a half a dozen good colorings in the 3 yrs. most of the places I have gone have been to were high end salons. Two of the guys were wonderful at first, I was so happy, but it seems as they get comfortable with me and start chatting up a storm I ended up with horrible hair! And I mean the one time was so bad I took pictures after I restyled my hair when I got home. And wow ! Nobody could say I was overreacting.....I took the pictures back to the salon and staff at the counter didn’t even know what to say, but I could see by their faces they were shocked at the hack job. The guy walked in that did my hair and looked at it and said oh.....it’s because your hair was so damaged lol. Funny because the day before he was complementing me on the health of my hair and besides that has nothing to do with the fact my hair was so uneven all over the place. Anyhow I guess what I’m saying without having to go through every horror story is that I believe way too many stylists either don,t care enough to do a good job or just aren’t trained well.....or I just have bad luck? I even go in asking for the same cut I have but shorter and I walk out with curly hair so I don’t notice the issues till I wash my hair and bam 💥 so uneven that I have to go back or most times I just go to another salon. I am such a friendly person and don’t demand much so I know it’s not because I’m a difficult client or something:( PS if anyone is from Vancouver BC and knows of someone awesome here let me know :) PSS... and not the Pink Lime...that’s where many of my 300 hair mishaps have been and sadly a couple good hair times but not taking the chance again. I’ve spent soooo much money 💴 over the last few years just to be disappointed that I now am growing my colour out and hardly get more than a trim :(

One of the worst feelings in the world is being super proud of your work and having the client not love it. I’m so sorry that client was difficult, but I love how you explained your consultations and explanations to her. Things for me to think about when talking to my clients.

I have NEVER walked into salon with a pic an say “I want this exact thing”. I just say “I like this. How close can we get to it?” because I KNOW my hair is different from the girl in the pic and the lighting used in the pics is vastly different. Most of those pics have a filter. People are crazy!!!

You should do a video on “how to know if a stylist is right for you” or something along those lines...because I haven’t gotten my hair cut/dyed for seven years and the reason is, is because every stylist I’ve come across always seems like they aren’t passionate about their profession and don’t ask me that many questions or tell me what they’re doing....If I had you as a hair stylist I would be more than happy because you actual care about the outcome ♥️
