Heartstream was founded in 1992 with the mission to create a defibrillator for laypersons. Their first product was the ForeRunner in 1996. Heartstream was purchased by HP in 1997. Two years later its division was spun off as Agilent Technologies. Then in 2001 Philips purchased the entire Medical Group from Agilent Technologies. I looked up HP Heartstream. In 1999, Hewlett-Packard spun off its Medical Products Group, including the Heartstream Operation, into Agilent Technologies. With Agilent, Heartstream introduced a new AED and Laerdal Medical marketed this device as the Laerdal Heartstart FR2. The FR2 evolved into the FR2+, with the addition of an enhanced feature set, in 2001. Heartstream became part of Philips Medical Systems in 2001, when Philips purchased the entire Medical Group from Agilent Technologies.

A very interesting presentation Mike. I myself was about to check one of these devices. You did it for me and answered the question I suspected. That consumer camera batteries were inside. Maybe if the device were a snap on cover , the batteries could be replaced and save the purchaser £100s of pounds! But I suspect not sadly. The cost for new batteries are extortionate for these devices. The Laerdal Ambulance Defib’s can be charged both on board an ambulance and externally via a charger in the mains socket. Thanks once again for a very informative video.

Not really - the way the detector works isn't very amenable to altering, and the resolution of an x-ray is limited by the tube's spot size. I now also have a smaller mailroom x-ray which is small enough to keep for a while.

Any stuff that you don't see on a zillion other bits of common gear - high voltage, insane current, funky packages, stupidly expensive stuff, extreme sensitivity or precision, wierd physics devices, bizarre optics and anything with a scary warning sign on it. Wonder what they'll do with the Hadron collider now they've found the Higgs. Hey, CERN people, all donations welcome!

I'm sure people have worked out the optimum charge value to resuscitate the majority of people without causing harm. Drain from an LCD will be a tiny fraction of the battery shelf life so not an issue. A check button is no good as unit may be behind a break-glass panel in a public space.

Ebay obviously - stupidly cheap as it was faulty (before I fixed it) , and the guy wanted the space to make way for ex-Olympics gear, Paid more for van hire and diesel than the scanner - will probebly cover the costs from scrap lead

Open an old Panasonic plasma and be greeted with a huge number of IGBTs (one I repaired had some 10 high-voltage IGBTs and about 30 MOSFETs), 400V mux ICs (with 480/720/768/1080 output lines), etc. They use something like 200V drive waveforms at 200kHz.

You can get them on eBay for about $1000 and up. A rather justifiable investment if you have use professional use for it, as I'm sure Mike does. He might have gotten cheaper through contacts, though. Another tip, again from Mike if I recall correctly, was to go to the local veterinary and ask to use their x-ray machine, of course against an appropriate payment.

Interesting to see what look like ASICs. One possibility is that current FDA and other regulatory requirements frown on software control. Essentially, manufacturers need to prove that the probability of a dangerous malfunction is below a specified level. Some guidelines require that in this calculation, the probability of failure of a software module must be taken as 100%. I wouldn't be too surprised if these ASICs were a redundant ECG analysis system to inhibit shock in life-supporting rhythms

This would have been a real unit used on real people, the training ones lack the LCD displays (instead have a sticker for the main one and a pull out strip for the battery indicator at the top right) The training ones also take a slightly different battery loaded up with D-cells cas theyre cheaper than the real things. They are nt cross compatible for obvious reasons. Source: Ive been trained on a number of these units and theyre all pretty much the same

We are asking you to donate £10k per week to help children like Jonny. For less than the price of a weekly car purchase, you can help Jonny to see (through things) again. With your help we can end this problem. Thank you. The X-Foundation - daring to look through life’s problems.
