Fun fact: James Avery taught Will how to act in those emotional scenes during the filming of the show.. He literally took on the role of mentor as well as father figure for Will during those acting scenes which involved heavy drama and emotional scenes.. (James being a highly gifted Shakespearean and broadway actor himself) .. Without "Uncle Phil" we wouldn't have gotten these incredibly REAL emotional scenes from Will..

Willl’s acting prowess is undeniable in this scene and James Avery was as equally as amazing. The way Will feels so scared and hurt and ashamed that he reverts to an almost childlike emotional state as he apologizes over and over again, rocking back and forth, eyes locked on the floor, not able to even look his family in the face as tears pour from his eyes. And Uncle Phill being the amazingly.compassionate man that he is, reaching out without hesitation to sweep Will up in a big loving embrace to show him the love, understanding and security he so desperately needed in that moment. Truly powerful.

The writing and casting for this show was amazing. It could be silly and fun, but it could also be thought-provoking and serious. The writers knew how to balance that out and the actors executed it to perfection. This is why TV was so good in the 90s. It was a little more grown up than Full House and Family Matters, but they were all very good at producing family-friendly content that could make you laugh, cry, and everything in between together. TV now is so divisive. It’s either adult-oriented or kid-oriented, with not much overlap, so families are less inclined to watch together.

This shows the love between both characters- where Carlton was willing to let it go and violate all that he stands for in terms of following the rules. And Will showing he has HONOR rejected the tickets knowing he didn’t deserve them and coming clean and telling uncle Phil the truth. When he breaks down he is genuine in his hurting of his mistake. This show is BRILLIANT in its lesson delivery- just BRILLIANT
@stephenfurlong4230

The true testament to Will genuinely being sorry was that he owned up the moment those tickets came into play. Had he not been given them he might have taken the lesson on board but the second he was getting lauded as a hero he knew the guilt would eat at him. The writers nailed this scene.

An incredible scene-brilliant acting from everyone. I love how, in the second part, Ashley, Carlton, and especially Hilary react without saying a word. Karyn Parsons (Hilary) is ordinarily a ditz, but she looks FURIOUS when she hears what happened, and, in the final moment, quietly puts her hand on Alfonso Riberio’s back to console him. The entire ensemble was beyond amazing-one of the best TV families ever.
