I spent weekends in Pine Bluff hanging out at the mall, playing in the two arcades in town, and hanging out there because our town (Fordyce) was too small and Pine Bluff had a movie theater. Sucks to see it this way. Any native Arkansan knows its nickname: Crime Bluff.

I agree, that chin is in Arizona, and they seem to just put up a new sign and starting renting rooms. There is one on I-10 near Eloy, I swear to gawd, the police are out there at least three times a week.

Actually, it was pretty descent for the price. Don’t know why they abandoned it. It is in a high crime area now, maybe that’s why.

I stayed in this motel in about 1977 or 78 as a 10 yr old kid with my best friens family. I believe this was once a Holiday Inn back then. Th large area and the pool clicked a memory. I grew up in Western Arkansas and we attended an air show in Pine Bluff since my friends dad owned 2 WW 2 airplanes and he flew them. This was the first time that I stayed in a motel away from home. Wow, it looked so modern then.

In the office, I was reminded of something I had forgotten. I used to work at a front desk in a resort area, and everyday that board with all the slots would be used to set up rooms. We would have a room number chosen, according to their preferences, so that when the travelers came in, we would pull the card with their name and room number, and it would tell us their room assignment. Then we would turn to a rack on the wall, and choose the corresponding key. Now all of this would be done on computer. Checking someone in was much more time intensive. But the worst part was when the hotel overbooked and I worked the 3-11 shift, and had to be the one to tell people with reservations, we had no more rooms! Not fun. We would try to.book them somewhere else, but it was very stressful.

I think this was the Admiral Benbow In for years. It must have been bought out since I was there last in 1994. Believe it or not, it was the best hotel in that disgusting town.

At one time back in the day! That hotel was nice really. I used to stay there a lot back in my early 20s and also work there for awhile. The pool area back then was really nice as well when the owner of the hotel passed away! It started to go down slowly and just renting rooms at to anyone that trashed the place and not to mention in the back part a man that rented a room there monthly was shoot to death on the back side of the hotel that when they closed it down for good it a shame to see it like this now such a shame!!

They recently closed an America's Best Inn, last year. They demolished it before it could be trashed. And they had put a fence up around the property to keep people out,and it did. I hated to see that place go because it held wonderful memories for me ! I lived there quite a few times from 2008 to 2016. I actually cried when I saw it demolished!

Pine Bluff may be a shit hole, but go a bit farther north into the Ozarks and there's some wonderful land and sights to see! The whole stretch of I49 between Fayetteville and Fort Smith/Alma is just gorgeous, especially in the morning when the sun is coming up over the hills.

Nothing a good cleanup can't fix. The place looks very structurally sound - except the burnt area, that whole place has to be scrapped. Some of the big stuff in these dead motels are worth a ton of dosh in the right market. Those places are just asking for someone with a keen eye and a hardy truck to stop by and feast on the ownerless machinery.

I was thinking much the same as you: the laundry machines, the furniture. Maybe there's a kitchen full of equipment and utensils and dishes. I hate to see the waste. I don't know the legalities and logistics but if a motel is closing why not sell the contents for a small price or just donate them or let people come and take what they want? I figure, how likely is it that those items will be used again unless there's a definite plan for the motel to keep going under a new owner? Too if there's a new owner it's likely the motel would be renovated and redecorated.---I agree: the place seems to be well-built. I also noticed that the fire was contained to one room.

MAN, there is so much ridicule and outright hatred for Arkansas out there! I've never understood. While I do not live in PB, I have lived in this state all my life. I don't know what to say except that it is a beautiful state with generous, good people. I have traveled a lot in my life and I'm always glad to go back home to Arkansas. As far as videos, I guess you find whatever you go looking for. But after 50 years I can honestly say I've never heard banjo music in the woods behind my house.

I live in Pine Bluff our city moves around alot, it is to the expanding of different areas of town. It is not a funkytown. we are growing and expanding i used to live on highway 63 south, we have grown a whole lot, so Dan before you get your mind set on just one part of town you should travel to all parts of the town before you finish your trip.
