Absolutely second this sentiment. I've turned to doing 90% of the jobs that need doing on the house we moved into 6 months ago because most trades people we've had in don't give any hoots about the work they do, they just do bare minimum and run. Try it! It gives better hot water reheat times, better efficiency on heating. You can also install much smaller cylinders. If you were to pair a 30kW intergas boiler with a 125L high gain cylinder ( joule for example) you can have under 12 minutes reheat times, meaning you can never run out of hot water when using one outlet , pretty much like using a combi but with much better flow rates. You will also stand out from your competition when quoting.

When I retired from plumbing in 2005, push-fit was just starting to come in. I’ve never really used it, it was galvanised threaded pipework, soldered joints, bronze welding or arc welding plant room headers. Being Corgi registered was a real ball-ache, push-fit looks like a dream to use. No blow lamps or benders required.
@Steve_T142 жыл бұрын
Can cause a lot of hassle as the fittings can sometimes pop off if fitted incorrectly or faulty and it doesn’t look as nice as copper, also can’t install plastic too close to the boiler, needs to have a minimum 1 meter run before using plastic because the boiler can melt it, but is definitely easier to install and cheaper because of how expensive copper is right now

The pipe work he installed was beautifully done ✅ in fact the whole job was done in a very professional way,the crap in that system was unbelievable,I’ve fitted my own Combination Boiler a couple of times over the last 20 years,after flushing the system I’ve always put Bluecol antifreeze in the system instead of the chemicals they use,I did this because we have two houses in different areas one of which is a holiday home and doesn’t get used much in winter so the risk of freezing up is minimal if the frost stat fails,the water in my systems is as clear as it was the day I filled it with no sediments at all,I’m Not a plumber but a truck mechanic and you Never see muck like that in a truck cooling system that has had antifreeze in it continuously so I decided to give it a try and have Never had any problems with boiler or pipe work in all these years,no corrosion at all in the steel radiator’s,good as new after inside after 12 years.

First off they put the included thermostat that does outdoor+indoor compensation in a cupboard, and installed a wireless on/off thermostat with no compensation (was set to a fixed flow temp of 50*C), Was multiple leaks when the system was installed. The old boiler could not be used because the heat exchanger was leaking and I had to wait a few weeks for the new one to be installed. Those systems are so much more complicated when compared to what you find in the typical North American home. I'm from Québec, so almost all heating is done using electricity. The only place where you will find hot water central heating is large buildings such as hospitals and universities. Filters are rare. Most systems don't have any pumps as city water pressure is usually high enough. That also means we don't have any return, or circulation loops. That's one thing that I do think we could really learn from. Must be nice to have hot water almost right away when turning on the tap. We don't pay for water, so wasting a few litters waiting for hot water isn't a huge concern. The vast majority of North American homes only have a hot and cold pipe with an electric hot water tank that needs to be replaced every 10 years.

Why would a 30Kw combi not be able to deliver priority DHW for 2 showers when each shower is not going to delivering a mix of hot water vs the heated boiler HW anyway (and some aerator taps would cut that HW demands for taps and perhaps an 2 water efficient shower heads?). How can the old boiler be expected to have ever worked if never power flushed or looked to have been serviced (whats the point of fitting a magclean if never cleaned out either). I actually never had a problem with the coil. All my gate valves are fully shut on those cylinders and only installed in case I may need them.

So you have used the normally open 2 port valve on the heat feed to the unvented cylinder? Or did I hear that incorrectly. UK regs require the valve to close if there is any kind of input temperature run away via the over temp trip cutting the power and then the valve closes on its own.

Hi I was wondering if you could help me. I have a choice between the WB Greenstar i system boiler 18 kW, sadly 4000 is not going to release to Irish until next year or the viessmann 100 w 19kw. Both offer 10 years warranty but WB customer service is way better and respond lot faster i.e within two days than viessmann since they use third party to manage boiler issues. I know that build quality isn't the greatest on WB compare to viessmann. I am really struggling to decide which one plus need to make decisions fast as old boiler is dead. The gas installers told me it way easier to deal with WB compare to other companies that why they recommend WB also they told if you regularly service it they cause no real major issues but saying that looks it base on opinions as well.

I would go with viessman on hot water priorityset up.

Thermal stores are good alternatives to moving unvented cylinders when faced with D2 pipework issues; they don't have D2 pipework, and still provide mains hot water. Is there a reason why this wasn't considered?
@Saaj22 жыл бұрын
Not a heating engineer, what is D2 pipework? I agree, thermal stores are also great from an efficiency point of view. Also you get the good flow rate of an unvented cylinder and the unlimited hot water of a combi.

You only get 7l per shower at 35c temp rise and you would have to upgrade the gas in my case to 28mm I am getting 20l/min at 45c rise so way better got water performance on a boiler that costs half of what 200w

How do you change the bottom immersion heater element if it fails? It doesn’t look like there’s enough room.
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
It may not look like it, but there is enough space. It is a relatively short element and once undone you can move it to the side. I made sure that it was possible by trying it before final position of the cylinder was set. However to take it out you still need to drain the cylinder, so undoing 4 compression fittings and twisting cylinder to the side is also relatively easy.

Great video! Just curious, why did you use a different type of two port valve for the heating?
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
The valve for heating is normally open - so when there is heating demand both valves are in resting position. When there is hot water demand both valves get energised. Heating valve closes, hot water valve opens. Hot water fires at much higher output to quickly reheat the cylinder. Heating works with load compensation and low modulation. If both valves were open you would lose a lot of efficiency on CH.

I always carry air compressor for bigger installs to check for leaks before I put water in but I don’t do as many installs so never had need of buying press gun yet. Would you recommend it ?

press fit is great. Never use a compressor to check for leaks. Air compresses easily and if a fitting ever blows off a pipe it can kill you.

I’m from Toronto canada and was trying to wrap my head around your terminology but I now realize your tankless hot water tank does “space heating/Radiant” and you have high temp heating going into your domestic heat exchanger up stairs to give them the water for showers etc. I find it crazy that these are always in kitchens in Europe. I guess most of these houses do not have basements like we do. That is usually where all residential heating/mechanical equipment is located.
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
Basement installation are very tricky here. For starters, most basement do not have drainage and all condensate from condensing boiler has to be pumped. Also, cylinders have a safety valves to realise boiling water in case of overheating or high pressure - this also has to be pumped. Pumps for those cylinders are very expensive, as they have to be able to handle very hot water (boiling) in a continuous fashion.
@foolishcreations22592 жыл бұрын
@@UrbanPlumbers all of our sanitary and storm drains exit in our basement slabs so ideally there would be a floor drain in the mechanical room. For the acidic condensate we just put a neutralizer on them and right down the floor drain. As far as safety relief valves are concerned those get hard piped to the concrete floor min 6” min 12” maximum. If your Temp and pressure relief or pressure relief valve is always dumping you’ve got some issues lol. I’m assuming your sanitary exits on the main floor which is why you are referring to sanitary pumps.

Why go for 2 zone valves instead of a diverter valve ? What was the third pipe with no valve on, going to ?
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
You could use diverter for sure. In this design however the valves are in the resting position most of the time, so it is quite reliable. 3rd pipe goes to an auto bypass.

@@UrbanPlumbers It's the first I've heard of a NO zone valve ! When we moved in here, only one zone valve, DHW was a permanent circuit in half inch pipe. That's 15mm to you :) I've 5 zones now. Why does it need a power flush then? If that boiler hasn't been serviced that magnaclean is pretty clean. You only need to do a powerflush on a system if the system is showing signs of needing it. Taking a magnaclean apart and showing how dirty it is is not a sign of sludge build up. The system will need a clean if the radiators are cold in the middle at the bottom or if sludge is seen when draining the system from the bottom drain off. Just having a dirty magnetic filter means that the filter is doing its job.
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
Magan clean is pretty clean? You are having a laugh, mate. The system was filthy as hell and needed a full flush 100%.

Why use two separate NO/NC valves on a T in parallel instead of a three way valve that selects between two pipes?
@UrbanPlumbers2 жыл бұрын
You can use a 3 port with NC position towards the cylinder. It is called a D plan. There is really not much difference between the 2, and they are wired in almost identical way. Just whatever your preference is or whatever type of valve you have available. My next video will have a similar set-up using 3 port. I would use 3 port when there is more than 1 heating zone.

Best tl drain down and refill mate stick to fernox as they are quality but cheap stuff lile senital is also fine
@sip55742 жыл бұрын
There have been tests done that prove mixing inhibitors can accelerate corrosion in heating systems. As G mentions best to drain it down and refill with a fresh inhibitor. I’d only use Fernox, Adey or Sentinel. I wouldn’t bother with a brand different than that. There are other ways to treat system water, but it gets quite in depth. If your interested check out de-mineralising based on a German standard VDI 2035, it’s quite interesting.
