Newman has a role more than a cardboard cutout position any defender can slot into. He does several things throughout the course of a game, and none of the kids have half of it yet. Should be interesting to see what and who develops.

Haynes back up appears a good move. Thankfully a lot of solid backup on the list. Hopefully thats our share of injuries and we get a better run for the rest of the season. Go blues.

Bad news but Doc goes from the wing back to defence. Opens up the wing for Jaxon Binns. Kemp could also go back which then brings moir or jsos for third tall. Other option is Billy Wilson, Cowan play the newman role or more responsibility for Jordan Boyd. We have the depth to cover. Pre season injuries suck. This could easily have happened in a game

It is shattering news because he was about to play a half back and midfield role but we must be positive and support the club because that’s what he would want us to do. This gives us a chance for players like Cowan, Boyd and docherty to stand up and play his role. All three players are strong players. They also have a good precision kick that can hit targets. But saying that Cowan is a player that is not afraid to get in there. Docherty has leadership and can inspire others around him and Boyd is the best kick in our club that can impact. So we do need to think who is the best choice due to different types of capabilities. Also helps young kids like hollands and Billy Wilson to step up and play with their speed off half back and can make quick decisions. Let’s see what they can do.

Rocco, do you ever go and watch games at The Carlisle Hotel with the WA Blues supporters group? I used to join them occasionally when I lived up in Perth. They started up in the 90s, and I went a few times back then. I can’t recall the name of the original venue, but it was a small restaurant or café I think in Maylands on Guildford Road. Ron Barassi would occasionally pop in. He might have been the one who secured the venue back then, I'm not entirely sure. Later, they moved to the Odin Tavern in Balcatta. Back then, the group started with about 12 or so supporters and grew to around 20 or more in the first couple of years at the Odin. I’m curious what the turnout is like these days?

Yes I try and get there when I can to the Carlisle,the previous venue was the Empire Bar which was a better and bigger venue on Great Eastern hwy near the Casino.The turnouts now average around 50 people but on good turnouts especially when they had them at the Empire Bar there’d be over 100

Jordan Boyd is the closest like-for-like that I think of. Both very good users of the footy, which is a problem area for Ollie and Cow. There's always the option of Doch going back, Cotts moving from HFF to a wing, and then more opportunity for Moir (front 7 of Charlie, Harry, Kemp, Fog, Motlop, Moir, Elijah)

I think we need to pull the trigger and push Weitering to CHB. If Nick Haynes can give us 1-3 decent seasons he could be what we need to lock down full back and unleash Weiters' potential.

I agree with you about the players that get a chance to step up and how we are stacked for half backs The main move Id make though would be to have Doc back there again Newy is such an on field coach and has coaching aspirations after playing career and Doc is exactly the same Too many new players down there not to have that on field coach type in that area IMO

Cowan to play there this year, with saad and docherty rolling through there we should be ok. Haynes and hollands will be handy down back also. To be honest at 32 Newman has played his best footy already and it’s hard to see him coming back if the young players keep improving.

I think Haynes play the role as a giants fan/ Carlton member those who think Haynes is gonna be our second key defender behind Weitering are wrong Haynes is a tall half back in the same mould of a grant Birchall, so with his experience and voice and ability to play multiple roles he’d be the ideal replacement for Newman.

If you look at the Lions last year, they had 11 players that played ALL possible 27 games and another 3 players that missed only 1 game. Definitely need your key players in form and fit to have a chance at a flag. Did the lions have luck with injuries in 2024 or was it their training and conditioning? Probably a bit of both

The promise for 25 was positive, even beyond positive. "This will be the year!" Well, no. I'm afraid not. Walshy's injury is not a worry (as long as thats all it is) but Newman's is and at this stage of the year a disaster! Newman is our best defender no question. So everyone placed blame on the fitness coach last season and is looking forward to a new era but seems things haven't changed. Did we (fans) put the blame on the wrong man? Worse than the injuries, however, is the behavior of the club president. Does he worship Trump and is trying to emulate the self indulgent prick? Now, speaking of pricks, what kind of a person (club president or company CEO) would take a picture of their member and send it to a woman online? Given the accusation of corrupt business dealings made last year, this is a man who is definitely mentally unstable. We don't need this man anywhere near the club, he is sabotaging our season before it starts. I can even begin to imagine the taunts players and the club will get at games, online and everywhere. The ship has started sinking and we haven't left the dock!
