There's a great classic movie called "Sergeant York" from 1941 starry Garry Cooper as WW1 war hero Alvin York. I couldn't help but think of a scene in this old movie where York (Gary Cooper) is telling the other soldiers how they shot turkeys back in the woods of Tennessee. He explains that you never shoot the lead turkey because the others will see it fall and peel away. Instead you start with the last turkey in the string and work your way to the leading turkey. It was a metaphor for later in the film when he damn near shoots the entire German army singlehandedly. Anyway, the scene starting at about 1:40 (or a bit before) made me think of Sergeant York's turkey shooting techniques. The Huns are lucky Stu wasn't in France in 1918! Great video guys.

@@HuntingwithStu Yep, the guy was bulletproof it seemed and he applied for conscientious objector status too based on his religious convictions and yet ran through a hailstorm of bullets about 100 times without a scratch.....makes ya wonder. It's definitely a great old movie and Garry Cooper plays Alvin York very well. In fact I read York was hired as an adviser on the film and was on set everyday of shooting. My old Marine Corps unit fought a terrible battle at about the same time called the Battle of Belleau Wood. The famous saying "Retreat Hell! We just got here!" came from just before this battle when the marines had been waiting on ships and in garrison for months to have a crack at the Germans and as they finally got their chance they encountered retreating French soldiers who told them to turn back because the Germans were too strong and Paris was about to fall. A marine officer named Major Lloyd Williams shouted the famous line at the fleeing French troops and went forward and stopped the Huns at the edge of Paris. Hell of a story!

I'm from the Ore Mountains Saxony/Germany. I think Saxony has the size of a bit bigger australian private property ;-), so there is no comparison to these incredible wide territories where you hunt. Pigs are only active at night here. But in the late autumn and winter we have a lot of driven hunts, where you can hunt for wild hogs, roe deer, red deer and sometimes fallow deer.

@HuntingwithStu4 жыл бұрын
Good question mate. I think the AAA are faster and hit harder but that also includes a kick as well. I am liking the Black hawk ammo and 27 pellets covers all the whole pattern area. So I think if you are only shooting a few pigs then AAA would be good. However, if you are shooting all day and letting off lots of shots then Black hawk ammo is the go. I do have some black hawk ammo to try out so once this lockdown is lifted I'll test them out as well mate.

Do you have to aim in front or aim right at them when you drive the same speed as them?
@HuntingwithStu4 жыл бұрын
It is a split decision that depends largely on a lot of things that are going on at the time. Yes if the vehicle is moving at the same speed as the pig then just aim for the head. However, if the vehicle slows to a stop and the pig continues to run you have to start aiming further and further in front as you slow down and as the pig puts more distance between you as well. It is probably an exact science but worked out in a second or two.
