Thanks for taking your time to help out those , including myself, that enjoy working on our own bikes, please keep that camera rolling!

I just did mine today. I have seen a lot of video's of people doing this I really don't know why they all feel the need to remove it from the bike I leave mine on the bike. The fist thing I do take screw driver and put it on the back side and tap the sight glass out one of two things will happen you will either just knock out the plastic or if you are real lucky you will knock out the plastic and the metal ring. If you have to get the metal ring out what I do is is get it from the back side. I use a ice pick. I put between the O ring and the metal rind it usually only takes a few taps and it pops right out. That trying to pry it with screw driver from the front just doesn't work to well. To put the new on in clean it up and put in the O ring then the sight glass by hand you can get it enough to hold it there then I use a C clamp and metric socket that just fits on the metal of sight glass. I put the C clamp on the outside of the reservoir. You may need a little help from someone to hold the socket for you while tighten up the C clamp to it from that point you just tighten the C clamp. It runs it in like a cream puff nice and straight Just be careful and not to tighten it to much be easy with it. When I remove the fluid out I leave enough the keep the hole at the bottom covered this way you just need to add fluid without having to bleeding the brakes. If you keep your tools clean nothing will fall inside.

Because 99% of the time, the replacement of the sight glass is concurrent with a refurbishment and rebuild. I have never run into a master cylinder needing a sight glass that wasn't pooched in every aspect. But, in cases of isolated damage or something, I'll keep your method in mind. Again, when I replace these, I'm doing the entire master refurb.

Great video, Hardy Boys? Well, at least you didn’t bring the Partridge Family into the picture 😅😂🤣 Hey, I’m an early 60s guy, I still prefer the old days…

I struggled to get mine started straight, too. Despite effort to do so. I used a C-Clamp and a nickel. All on the bike... Next one will be done on the "Grizzly"! My Magnas' have two per bike.

Great informative & entertaining video. I would sell those sight glass pushers you made. I would buy one.

A G clamp with a piece of thin wood on both sides of the master cylinder will also do the trick for installing sight glasses.

Thank you for your video.. going to order mine right now for my 87vfr.. do you think a 18mm or 17mm socket will work the same pushing in the site glass?
@MotoRestoFL Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Long as it captures just the outside edge to press the glass in place, you're good to go. I am unsure of the size you'll need.

I am about to get 2 of those replaced on my 1988 super magna. Can I borrow your tool? Where did you get sight glasses from? Thank you bud! Good video

I got them off Amazon. LE LEFOSSI 18mm Sight Glass Lens Gasket Repair Kit Motorcycle Front Rear Brake Clutch Master Cylinder a.co/d/39vqyiJ You can find the standard sized ones there in this case it’s 18mm but you’d have to verify.

You can likely get away with using a socket to install them.
