Hi Dave. I just wanted to say a massive thank you from Scotland. After 15 years of playing I've only just learned to do a proper set up all thanks to you. Got my 64ths action gauge, feeler gauges etc and it's made a huge difference. I now lay awake at night thinking about all the basses I've had that could've been set up better. Take care, love your videos!

Dave-sorry about the family stuff going through the same thing here. I am about to turn 62 here in Chicago and I have one of those silly Geddy Lee sig bass. Even as a guy who takes the upmost care of his bases, they are in the case when not being used wipe down constantly no dirt on them. Of course the neck did it signature move on me, surprised the hell out of me but from learning from you it’s OK -now I strongly encourage players out there to listen to what Dave has to say about learning your truss rod , you must be able to do adjustments on your own. It’s wood it moves especially here in Chicago with four seasons even as I am totally completely anal about the care didn’t seem to matter on that skinny little toothpick neck though thanks Dave you’re the best. Bass players are seemingly so hung up about pedals and amps and all this gear. Why don’t you start learning about how to take care of your actual instrument it amazes me how young people don’t know a damn thing about trust rod adjustment don’t even know what a trust rod is except for it’s a little hole there, but they know everything about amp Sims and cabinets , I hate today Jim Crabby in Chicago Yeah, I really don’t wanna hear about your gear either. Do you take care of it? Do you watch your neck? Do you wipe down your instruments neck to keep it in case or do you just leave it sitting around getting pissed on by your buddies amazing.

Did you straighten the neck by clamps or by truss rod only? Inexperienced people need to be careful with truss rod adjustments - overdue do it the wrong way and you can crack or damage the neck so I've heard. Lovely sounding bass once you mundanely set it up - ha ha. Cheers, Dave.

Another quality video from Dave which had me wetting myself laughing at his truss rod adjustment rant, i have a Nate Mandell signature, love the spec, but hate the glossy neck (now sanded and waxed) and the neck adjustment. After wresting with the f£€¥₩$# adjustment decided to get one of the Stu Mac wheel nuts for £9, after 3 weeks of rowing itself across the Atlantic to the UK its installed with a nice cut out in the pic guard. Its hardly noticable against the black pic guard and i can only think Fender hide behind "the original look" but i suspect they are just cheap. These buried neck adjustments are retro for a reason, putting them on modern guitars is ridiculous even at 2008. Sorry to hear about your uncle dude 😔

Of my 8 guitars, they all stay in their cases with 49% boveda humidipaks. Sure, it's a minor hassle to take them out of their cases, but they are protected much better from humidity changes and dust etc than sitting out. Worth it IMO.

When the humidity drops, does the neck turn into a banana (more neck relief) or does it tighten up and go straighter (less neck relief)? I have a furnace humidifier and have it separate from the heat, and it keeps the house at a minimum of 40% humidity, it usually maintains 42-46% throughout the year.

One would think Fender would simply lengthen the slot to allow access, to the truss rod. Wait, maybe doing that to the pick guard would affect the TONE(much like the strap buttons). Of course I've wondered why Gibson doesn't change the angle of their headstocks for many years too. (Again it may affect the tone) Sorry to hear about your Uncle, will send prayers. Hang in there Dave. (as one of my subs told me {he's about 20 yrs younger than we are} "Getting old isn't for the feint of heart." I honestly don't know if was a malicious jab at me, or a thoughtful, introspective comment, about one of my tunes. I hearted the comment, dude"s a regular viewer.)🤣Gil

Do not tell them to know their gear, and know their truss rods. There will always be people who have no business ever touching these adjustments ,and instead should go to a professional such as yourself. Some people are non- mechanical, and can not add air to their car tires without screwing it up. They are the ones who screw up a perfectly good guitar or bass. They are the ones who can not figure out how to shift gears on a 10 speed bike.

Paused @3:30: Hate to see it. If the truss rod functions as it should, this is a 5 to 10 minute adjustment job to sort out. (just the neck relief, not all the other jacked up stuff) However, if it was neglected for too long, causing the wood to set to that shape, then it could be a quite different prognosis, and it didn't need to be. It's a minor tragedy. @20:50 Glad it sorted out. Sorry about the uncle.

@stoutlager63252 жыл бұрын
The most aggravating thing about it is the body normally has a little depression routed out so you can easily access the rod with the neck on. I'm sure this one is the same. The problem is Fender continues to make the slot in the pickguard tiny like that. This is one little adjustment they could make at the factory. Probably those pickguards are cnc cut in the first place so we're talking changing a number in the settings. That's it. But they don't do it. Yamaha basses have truss rod access at the body as well. Yamaha gives you enough space. But oh no Fender can't be bothered.
