The warning was because in a Pedulla basses the Truss Rod works opposite from most other basses, i.e. turning clockwise adds relief, counterclockwise straightens. That is probably why the nut was chewed up, it had back bow. If you read the directions they actually say it is an opposite direction truss rod. Happy Thanksgiving.

That is one of the best Bass guitars ever made. They play so nicely. Sustain for days. That is a Bass that you buy once and you play it the rest of your life. Part of me is hoping that "Scott" does not use that Bass at bar gigs. Yes, Mike retired but man, what a Legacy he left behind.

Interesting you should say that because Pino Palladino talked about how great these basses are but is still best known for his MusicMan fretless and P Bass playing. Ultimately it seems quality, craftsmanship and playability come second to sonic function within a mix. Personally I have never much cared for the actual sound of most premium and high end, boutique basses.

@@martinheath5947 Musicmans and pedullas are both exceptionally well designed and made instruments. there is no "2nd" there. The precision is the original and still gets the gigs, nothing wrong with them. Tone wise, a musicman is the only bass that will truly sound like it does, so you do need one. The pedulla is an incredible instrument and better sounding than most... but not quite that legendary rock sound so it makes sense that pino would say that.

My ‘89 MVP is a PJ, so it can do a lot of sounds we’re used to hearing from Fender style basses. But, Mike Pedulla was smart and move the P pickup slightly, giving the bass a voice that was different enough to make it into its own thing, which has become highly sought after.

I bought a Yamaha trb 5p in 1990. Soon after I heard Percy Jones and Kai Eckhardt and fell in love with the fretless sound. I had just started playing in 89 but progressed quickly because of musician friends I had around me end the music I was digesting because of bass player magazine how is aware of his greats were. Was listening to Chick Corea elektric band John patitucci solo albums Stanley Clarke Etc I knew right away I had to play fretless but I didn't have the money to buy a new bass so I sent it to Pedulla and they converted it to fretless and put their Diamond coat finish on it. They did a great job! I played that bass for 8 years.

Hey Dave, You're right about putting instructions in the trussrod cavity. Some manufacturers use a different rotation direction than the classic "leftie loosey-righty tighty". I got a Kauer Daylighter of 2010 and when it came to adjusting the trussrod, it didn't make any sense, until I realised that it was inverted ! I had to turn it the other way around... Clockwise to loosen it and counter-clockwise to tighten it (looking at the neck from the head down). Fortunately, it was working alright and I was able to adjust it, but a warning could have helped. Make a note if you once have a Kauer to set-up... Cheers Dave !

I find it silly when designers do things like that. Yes, square aperture tuning wrenches are a thing in the world of stringed instruments, but if I lost the damned thing, as opposed to a standard Allen wrench, I couldn't just walk into a hardware store for a new one.

Hi Dave! Back in 1989 I bought Pedulla Hexebuzz (six string). This was a excellent instrument, it felt handmade. I liked the truss rod gizmo. if taken care of that bass would play forever. Ok, input jacks suck on every bass I have except the jacks that are body mounted with the controls. I know that bass is still going because I know the person I sold it to. I sold it when it became clear I got MUCH more work with my P-bass, Jazz-bass and stingrays. Whoever belongs to this bass has treated it like shit. Thanks for the post!

However, I bought my pentabuzz online and the poly FB was delaminating from the fret inserts - it was a mess. Sent it to mike for a full FB refinish. When I got it back, the FB was flawless, however, the rest of the bass was completely covered in overspray. I had to ship it back. HI did I hear you just Mention Mike Zimerman and is here via South Florida could you ask him if he remembers Kevin and Dennis Woods and afterbirth. As for you you occupy an enormous space in the guitar universe. right between technical and geekiness
