French catholic here, I don't take offense at what you're saying about the state of the faith in my country...Because it's absolutely true! And as you also mentioned, it's paradoxically in the midst of a revival of the traditional faith. You should see the church I go to on Sundays. Unlike some places in the US, they don't have glassed "family spaces" in the church, and Boy... sometimes you have a hard time hearing the Sermon because of all the babies and kids everywhere! Beautiful thing to see!

Je suis catholique et québécoise et l'état quasi-désertique de certaines paroisses fait peur. Plusieurs accusations (certaines calomnieuses) ont visé nos pasteurs, dont l'archevêque de Québec. Dieu merci, je fréquente une paroisse qui attire des familles et des enfants. (Contente de voir les bambins courir les allées et d'entendre des bébés pleurer) Cette paroisse n'est pas dans la mouvance traditionnelle en latin cependant, c'est plus avec le renouveau charismatique (communauté de l'Emmanuel). Mais cette paroisse est unique dans la ville pour le moment. Prions pour un renouveau et aussi de saints prêtres et laïcs. Un seul saint comme le frère André fait beaucoup conversions pour l'Église.

I attended a high Latin mass here in the US and it was like going back in time. All Latin except the sermon. Procession up the aisle with incense. Kneeling at the communion rail. Church was packed. Men in suits. Most women had dresses on and chapel veils. Many children. Lasted two hours. Every Sunday. It was great. There’s hope.

I went to France on a pilgrimage, all over, and had this terrible sense that all those churches, mostly empty during Mass except tourists and a handful of aging parishoners, that something would fill that void. It was a sense of dread. That was in the late 1990's.

As a professional contractor with 40 years of experience with projects like this, the fire/hot-work protocol on these jobs is strict and 'diligent'. The likelihood of accidental fire is reduced radically IF the protocols are followed. There are several factors that add to fire risk in these areas. The first is any copper roofing/flashing requiring soldered seams. Soldering is most often performed with electric soldering irons, not open flame touches, however, some irons are gas propane so there is still a flame issue. Even electric irons are dangerous if they are left unattended or set down on a flammable surface. As the work force ages, (and boy is it aging!) real craftsmen are replaced with young laborers with far less focus and attention to detail, as they are distracted and often poorly trained due to the lack of interest in actually working and taking pride in what they produce. I'm sorry to say, that the quality of labor is not what it once was, and when the project needs 'bodies', anyone who can breath is put on the job for the sake of appearances, and they very often cause problems. The tower often becomes a place where smoking is less likely to be discovered, as smoke rises, and is less likely to be detected. Of course, smoking is strictly prohibited. These are some real world factors and insights that might help understand. This is not to say deliberate vandalism is ruled out, as many workers are very much anti Catholic and anti Western Civilization.

The Knights aren't governed by Rome, but there's the matter of Blessed Michael Mcgivney's still being investigated for Sainthood. FYI, I joined the knights years ago. Right off the initiations actions, behaviors seemed very masonic. Couldn't tell the the difference from the knights and the elks eagles Jaycees lions, etc. The meetings were drinking and gambling boys' night out. Making money selling insurance banking and investing, etc, was their core activities. My friend and I would go up in the church and pray before the tabernacle for souls on Bingo nights. On day the knights asked if we would take shifts running the bingo night money maker. I told them that soon as some of them came up to take our shift at ucharustic adoration, we would gladly work the bingo tables. We never got any takers. PS withdrew from the masonic knights and Hewish Masonic Novus Ordo church. Returned to the faith of youth and my fathers, the authentic one holy Roman Catholic and apostolic church.

There is the issue of removing both cost. Getting a company to remove it since it is structural, and they may need permits, so covering them may be the best to do right now. This is not like taking down a picture hung on a nail. But yes it should be removed.

As a Canadian, I really feel like the laity needs to step up to secure and surveil their churches. There are most certainly many leftists who feel righteous and protected in vandalizing churches. Many parishes are short handed and in financial hardship and this is not something we should expect someone else to do for us.

Rupnik's excommunication was lifted within days of being declared . That would imply that he sought the required forgiveness through repentance, though, at least initially, he remained obstinately unrepentant and there has been no other evidence of his admission of guilt. Assuming he did in fact repent, that would indicate a level of guilt for the very crimes that led to his excommunication, which should lead to a swift conclusion to the year long investigation.
