Instead of tape, I hold a business card up to my eye. It works better for me than tape because my skin always reacts to it. I've also tried lots of shadow shield type products, but at the end of the day a cardboard business card is the way to go 🤣

I was recently at a Sephora in St. Louis. I needed an eyeliner & concealer. I looked at the prices & didn't want to pay that much for what I needed. After looking through a bunch of brands, I decided on an eyeliner & a couple lipsticks from the Sephora line. I did pick up my concealer from the Tarte counter but got the smaller size which was cheaper. Sephora seems to have a lot of great products within their own brand - and at a price most can afford.

As a very red faced gal, I hiiiighly recommend the green color corrector from hero cosmetics! It’s has almost entirely replaced my regular foundation - I usually mix that with a lighter coverage glowy foundation or just some concealer and it’s bomb! So lightweight and the green just transforms into your skin tone. 10/10 recommend!

If you haven't tried the Danessa Myricks Balm Powder, I recommend it. It's made for oily skins and is the one foundation my face can't break through. I think Danessa Myricks herself described the texture as "petal-like".

I feel you on the deodorant! I do a lot of physical activity and it was horrible feeling that I was stinking despite wearing supposedly great deodorant. listening to you talk about haircare trends and having oily hair: i have super-fine, INSANELY OILY hair and i recently bought the olaplex oil and it's been lifechanging. it's weird, it looks oily when i first scrunch it into my hair, but once i brush it through it's just... smooth and shiny. and i was complaining to my stylist about how my hair gets greasy in like 5 seconds, especially overnight, so i'm lucky to get 2 days out of a wash (i know so many people go DAYS AND DAYYYYS on a single wash). she suggested putting dry shampoo in my hair before sleep, and THAT has also been lifechanging for me lmao, it makes a huge difference fsr for me!

I think the issue with REM might have something to do with the fact it was started by Forma/Morphe. Something about it is just off, especially when compared to Fenty, Rare, even Haus Labs. REM has potential but I think they might need to rebrand.

I agree with you that I think other makeup companies will go under this year even with the beauty community "thriving"-- but I think it's due to us realizing that the rampant consumerism of the late 2010s just isn't sustainable or feasible for people anymore. I think the shoe is going to drop for Pat McGrath this year, and potentially other mid range brands because the one thing the community does seem to value indie brands for color cosmetics. So paying higher prices to outdated but prominent brands isn't going to occur at the same rate

I think the aesthetic is different to the 2010s so most of the looks one sees can be achieved with like 5 products. Also, I think ppl have burnout from influencers talking about palettes and makeup like they all had to be what you took for traveling. Not what you use at home in conjunction with the other stuff you have to create your look. like it was always the search for the stand alone palette. Which is tiring and also why isn’t dipping into multiple palettes while doing your makeup normal? It’s how most everyday ppl do it anyway.

I don’t know, I think Pat McGrath is doing fine. They have constant sales but even then…the price of a Mothership is still about $100 Canadian. It’s hardly a steal. And they are likely selling more based on those « more affordable » prices. With markup on luxury makeup, I suspect that their profits are still good (making less per palette, but increased units being sold). Haha, I am interested to see how things unfold either way.

Yeah, I agree. I still LOVE makeup, it's one of my most enjoyable hobbies. I experiment nearly every day (gotta give my hyper sensitive skin rest days 😅) and watch my favourite KZbinrs reviewing/applying/savaging makeup. What I'm NOT doing, is buying more. I'm shopping my stash and enjoying what I own. If I see something I want, it needs to fill a gap in my collection or replace something that's old/used up. I think most makeup users are in a similar head space. The fomo from the 2010's isn't such a factor any more. There are more important things going on and people maybe don't have the disposable income now. Never mind the environmental or sustainability factors. Yeah, I don't see that level of consumerism returning any time soon.

I don’t find them exciting, but there is a market for neutrals with rose shades. Some people want that repackaged Mothership, even if it’s just a decal. I have heard many complaints lately but I wonder if it’s from just a small subset of the beauty market. For example: People are always loudly saying MAC and Nars are boring, but they’re not just not KZbin or Instagram faves. That doesn’t mean they’re not selling product and doing okay sales-wise.

I bought three of the Charlotte Tilbury highlighters and all three of mine are loose too. I ended up using those like clear sticky gel type things that are used for fake nails lol they worked great! I tried to use some nail glue first, couldn't get that to work. So I just used two of the gel things on each and now the pan actually stays in place. As stupid as it sounds, it really does make a difference. But yeah, that works if anyone was wondering! :)

I LOVE ELF lip lacquer's! Love Bite is my fav color, they are a great formula! 🥰 ETS: I'm hoping the new ELF correctors are the same formula as the camo concealers which it seems to be...if that's the case (and even if it's not) they have a white shade in the concealer that you could use to lighten the corrector to your perfect depth level! ***I hope you get the correctors and do a review! I certainly would love to see that!! 🥰

Try Wet and wild glass skin correct! It’s slightly green, and it has this lovely luminosity to it. And it’s CHEAP. Hannah Louise Poston loved it too.

Having a specialty device to do that is so much more than the .0000000000000001 cent saving per 100 pans they save on materials by putting holes into it. So they're definitely not skimping. The issue is, there's seemingly no good reason they did it, except to make the pan easier to remove.

Your prediction of body and hair care having a moment has been true for me! I went on a huge Sally's beauty kick in Nov. ( I assumed all their hair products were not good before. Until I realized how actually GOOD their Generic Value Line is... Wow!!! It's the only line from them I am a true believer in. I stocked up on a bunch of new-found favorites and don't want to be without them now). I've also been so into hair masks, hair brushes, hair styling tools, claw clips. I've been loving Ahava body products. The Hibiscus & Fig body wash and lotion are so good!! Cactus & Pink Pepper, also very good. Perfumed Body creams (like a perfume's matching lotion). Give me all the perfumed Body lotions and creams! Epsom salts and lovely bath additives. Then there's foot & nail care! Foot rasps, heel creams, glass cuticle pushers, cuticle oils. I'm planning to spend my Ulta points on mostly products like these, which was so not like me a year ago. Maybe it's age or just a shift in the tide. It's been fun!

I love smashbox. Their studioskin is still one of my favorite foundations but the Always On cream eyeshadows are my favorite by far. They truly are always on. Those are the shadows you wear to root canals 100° days you get the idea. They are matte but not dry looking, a tiny amount goes a long way and I mix them with the Sydney Graces cream shimmers. The possibilities are endless. I’m surprised I don’t see people on Social Media do that. Peace

Nyx has beautiful matte liquid blushes called sweet cheeks. They’re in a tube like the CT ones, but they have a wand. They’re pigmented also. That bronzer/ contour wand from flower is amazing. I went with the deep shade because I’m using it as a contour, not a bronzer. It blends easily. Essence is coming out with baked blushes so I’m definitely going to try those before I get the Kosas one. Everyone hyped the kosas cloud set and I gave it away because it was too yellow on me.

I still use tape for my smokey liner looks. It’s so easy and I can get my angles the same for each eye. I saw on the ND YT page that the highlighter has a drop of green and pink just dropped in the corner of the highlighter before it’s pressed. I’m surprised that there’s no color difference tho…

20:00 I have many items from Charlotte Tillberry in similar packaging and I have never ever had the problems that I’m having with this launch. They rattle around and they swirl in circles when I’m trying to swirl my brush it doesn’t pick anything up because the stupid highlighter is spinning with the brush! I’m so aggravated. Based on what you just showed me though, I have an idea. I am going to glue my pan to the bottom. I am never going to refill a highlighter ever ever ever never ever, so I am not worried about that!

I've been using and loving the NYX green colour corrector recently! Just putting it on my redness really sparingly and buffing it out. It's been leaving me feeling like my skin looks so bright and fresh. The combination of having such a blank canvas + subsequently needing to use less foundation/bb creams, makes all my cheek products look so clean! It's a nice saturation where you don't need much for general redness, and using so little product means it doesn't mess with my other complexion formulas at all. I'm sure a lot of products could be used just the same, but I feel like it's made me appreciate colour correctors in a way I didn't back in the 2016-heavy-coverage-and-lots-of-extra-steps era! Also I absolutely love this makeup! Your eyes look beautiful!! ☺️

Yep I have that green to color correct my reddish cheeks to it matches my olive undertones and I use a concealer around my dark circles and that’s it most days in place of foundation. I do have foundation I have to use up though.

Mented cosmetics came out with concealer which I have ordered because my goal is to only have one brand of concealer that I use. I did this with my setting spray which is by mented cosmetics. I also have their primer which I love however I have ysl primer that I need finish and then I will have mented primer in my makeup collection. I have spent so much money on high end makeup it would be nice to go all drug store for a change. I do have some drug store but always preferred high end. Too expensive. Have Flower Beauty glow wand wand in Opal. Loved it. Use Native deodorant and LOVE it! Holy grail. Loreal Dream Lengths Shampoo and Conditioner from Amazon is my new Holy Grail. Can't find a good toothpaste. Using Haus Foundation and Loreal Serum Foundation. Love them. Threw out WetnWild primer. Made my foundation break up and patchy. Love their Vitamin Serum.

I've had better luck with peach concealer- correctors on fair skin for both redness (rosacea) & dark shadows/discoloration. It doesn't look grey. When my face is very red I use a medium coverage peachy concealer before foundation/CC cream. It really helps. Sometimes I don't bother with foundation & just use the concealer.

Hmm I got the ND palette as a companion to jubilee and have enjoyed using them together. I didn’t get use out of jubilee alone and I don’t think I’d use the mini pastel alone but that dark blue cream to powder in jubilee brings something to the table for me and then the tan and pink. The other two shades in jubilee are in the midi pastel palette anyway so already compliment the mini. I color correct the red on my cheeks with three dots of the too faced concealer. It’s working nicely, but I would be down to see some color correcting products.

Glossier was the first brand I ever bought makeup from in 2017! Loved them then and still do now. BUT I need some new product releases! The bronzer needs a matte (no shimmer) version. That’s the only product I was disappointed in (also because I had such high expectations!)

Totally relate on the point about being on a journey for finding concealer that sits well in these *new* wrinkles we’re getting. I just turned 30 (will be 31 next month, send help 😅) and I’ve noticed I’ve got to be much more careful with how I apply concealer & powder under my eyes. The powder that is my holy grail is discontinued I think, so fml but I just bought the Givenchy one that I’ve wanted forever and todays the first day I’ve worn it and it has been holding up great! Hopefully this is my replacement for my holy grail Urban Decay Velvetizer powder 😢. Also, I too am a super oily girl and the dewy stuff just doesn’t work for me, but I also don’t want super matte. I hope this is the year of the “in-between”foundation lol.

Hair / skincare feel the most gimmicky to me because those issues fall, IMO, squarely into the medical domain. When ppl ask me about my hair/skincare routine I tell them that they're better off spending their $ on their deductible than at Sephora (ie go to a dermatologist). My most repurchased/effective products are either prescription or affordable. Everything in between is dispensable and just for fun, not results.

So, I don’t know if makeup is less popular or just if the market is so over-saturated with brands that those who are not outstanding or innovative (as in adapt to the changing trends, market . . . ) or who don’t distinguish themselves in some way, can’t make it. I’m particularly sad about Bite Beauty, since I LOVED their foundation and lipsticks as well, but they hadn’t released anything new in years. Morphe could have improved their quality a million times over. Kailav’s palettes (I have three of the nine pans) are beautiful, but they never were able to expand their offerings, maybe because of the finances of being a small brand; I’m sure its easier when you have tons of money, like Ariana Grande or the companies sponsoring her line. BTW, I do like their lipsticks and highlighter, but her eyeshadow palettes are weird. I have a couple, but I have to combine them to get a look I like. She could have used color curation help from Lisa Eldridge! Not sure about Kosas - foundation and concealer run yellow, powders, bronzers (and likely the new blushes) ALL hardpan on me.

I am excited for hair things this year too! Be careful trying hair oil. It's not made for straight hair and you could end up with your hair falling out. That is happening to most straight haired folks who try it.

MAC is overdue for the skin tint. I remember walking in to a MAC store 2 or 3 years ago having that conversation with an employee. The F&B is great, just from a marketing perspective sometimes new products are more successful.

Glossier going into Sephora is making it rapidly loose it's luster. Not because it's going to be more easily accessible but because going into Sephora is requiring them to be "clean beauty" and vegan. We're waiting to see if Glossier is gonna fully pull a Bite Beauty. They're doing mass discontinuations and reformulations of the product line. They announced yesterday that the Balm Dotcom's are being reformulated (even though they've been accidentally sending them out since black friday). Their customer base is currently actively hostile to the brand because the new formula is actively shit. Going into Sephora is quickly becoming a lynch-pin moment where they need to grab a new wide fanbase. If they can't Glossier is going to fail as a brand.

Thanks for the update! I haven't been keeping up with the brand but was excited to get a replacement concealer in store instead of placing an order for it, but fingers crossed they don't reformulate everything for the worse
