I’ve had two bands fail. I notice that they failed where they pass through a hook. I realized that I always hooked the strap at its same natural fold point. Now I make sure that I vary where they connect with a hook or edge. So far I haven’t had another failure.

Have you considered investing in a cable pulley system? You can simply just buy a few pulleys and cables and mount them to your pull up bar. They are cheap and the resistance curve is far superior to dumbbells and bands.

It's a good option, but I am trying to keep my home gym footprint small as I don't want to use my garage for it. If you have the space though and don't mind it taking up space, I am all for it as it is a great option.

Multiple layered bands will always be better than molded bands which I believe the sunpow bands are. I have snapped loads of cheaper bands but ones with 15 layers of latex or more in the manufacturing process I have never snapped.

What brand? My Undersun set is falling apart, I need to replace.
@SandflailTraining5 ай бұрын
@@danderson5084 in the US, Serious Steel, Rogue, Elite FTS and Harambe are all multiple layer process. In the UK Wolverson bands and Pullum bands are multi layered. I use Serious Steel and Wolverson (both 15 layers I believe) have never snapped one and they give you way more resistance than the standard molded bands (sun pow, undersun etc) at the same “resistance ratings” which is a good thing. On the cheaper bands I can overhead press the heaviest bands but in the multi layered that is not happening. Hope that helps. There are more layered latex bands on the market but that’s the ones I’ve used and can highly recommend. Bands are a massive part of my training and I’m very particular about the quality and longevity.

@@SandflailTraining I have the same opinion. Working out with rogue or even better serious steel is more harder than training with molded bands like Undersun. My Rogue Bands started to split apart fast, but never tear or anything. And I try to avaoid using them with a setup where overstretching could occur, as well when using the serious steel.

You could try doing triceps overhead extensions and overhead press on the step plattform seated. In general I think everything is fine up to shoulder height with bands when using plattforms. Everything above is better seated, or I would say safer. I do like overhead presses standing as well as for triceps. But its a good deal doing it seated.

I might try that. I think the setup might be awkward, but I'll test it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

I bench press 355 lbs so the solution for me was to layer more bands as to not stretch them to the fullest. I take snapped bands as achievement of strength. With 4 thickest bands (2 each hand) I can't even overhead press 50% of the way/range. No foot plate.

Have you tried putting the band on the center of the bar then under the footplate like a triangle instead of parallel to the bar like a rectangle? It puts less stretch on the bands and you can easily stack for more tension, also the bands don't rub against your wrist which is a plus, works for me.

*Sunpow* resistance band is shown in the video. Never tried those. I have tried some generic cheap *Alllvocles* bands from Amazon that came in a set of four. The red ones in that set seem to always come with issues. The X3 bands I have seem to slowly be deteriorating. These are expensive and have that powdery crap. And finally, the *American Barbell* bands are the best quality bands I've tried so far. I'm confident in these but like everything, a snap is expected in the future. So far, none have snapped on me.

I started wanting Undersun and similar brands, but first I bought a cheap 10 USD tube set because I was “learning” how I was supposed to train with a band. Never got to the point of needing even middle price bands. Maybe I've been very lucky but I've bought about 6 or so 10 USD sets both tube and loop style and only bands from 1 tube style set had failed. And believe me I'm paranoid about one of these snapping on my face so I never do any high point front exercise. I even think I neglect them because since I have many sets, one may be untouched for weeks, plus I'm lightly washing them after every workout. Please put that one in the recycling bin :)

It is the platform😅 over time the it slowly wears out the band. The only way you can prove it isn’t the platform is if you put the band in the same position every time.

@@trevorgoodman3027 My point is the platform speeds up the process of it snapping.
@GamerBody5 ай бұрын
Why do you think the platform wears out the band? There may be a little bit of friction so it is possible, but it will happen even if I stood on it. The platform has a 1 inch cutout that is rounded as well to reduce the wear (even if it technically wasn't made for bands)
@rockweapon78955 ай бұрын
@@GamerBody I put the band guard or a towel around bands for less friction and a better more smooth movement when attaching onto a bar, bench or plattform. I know the towel could be a bit of a hassle, but its worth it. I only use the towel with the step because the band guard is not long enough. But on the Wii Fit balance board with the band guard and multiple felt pads to heighten up the board, is just so much better. Also to even out resistance on both sides so you make sure you have equal resistance

Sorry to hear of your band snapping, I have one of mine snap in the past doing the same exercise as yourself my bands are Hapbear, i find these to be reasonable quality at a good price. How are you finding the Geku bar? I have one myself, I find the bar itself to be pretty solid. However When doing bench press using it I stack the bands and the hooks on the end have bent inwards. I wish they would make some heavier duty screw in hooks for this bar as it would be close to ideal if a little more robust.
@GamerBody5 ай бұрын
So far so good for me with the GEKU bar (easily my favorite). I got as high as 3 Sunpow bands (purple, red & orange) without it bending on me. I could see it bending though if you are using different bands with greater resistance and more than I can use. I also agree that it would be awesome to make a "heavy duty" version or something of that nature.

Snapped my first band on the overhead press as well. I noticed the geku bar frayed my bands due to the weld (or bend idk which it is) so that might have contributed to the failure. Unfortunately my bicep did get clipped when it snapped and left a nasty bruise.

I just received your entire band, platform and handle set up. Will also be receiving adjustable dumbbells. Do you find yourself gravitating to dumbbells or bands for some exercises? Which ones? That could be an interesting video in itself. Also, why do resistance bands when you have a Spediance Gym Monster? I didn’t see it in this video.
@GamerBody5 ай бұрын
I personally do one specific style of training because of the different resistance curves the equipment provides. I don't mix them, but if you have to for some reason, you could, just make sure you push hard enough in a set to produce a great enough stimulus for growth at rest. I do have the Speediance Gym Monster, but the main reason I don't use it a lot is due to most individuals not being able to afford it, and I don't think it is necessary to get good results. Is it a great machine, YES, but isn't required for most people to achieve a good body.
