Ada, Sevgi, and Leyla were roommates back in college and their friendship has grown stronger over the years. After Sevgi gets a cancer diagnosis, they embark on a journey to an oceanside town in Turkey for Sevgi, in order to find a man who does family constellation sessions. What they don’t know yet is that this journey will change their lives, by leading each of them to become acquainted with their families, ancestors, and another version of themselves. Another Self, or Zeytin Agaci, is a Turkish drama series on Netflix. Should this be on your watchlist? Thanks for checking out my Another Self (2022) Netflix Series Review!

I binge-watched this over a few days and loved it. The more people understand about generational trauma, they can heal themselves and start to make new decisions.

For non-Turkish viewers: in Turkish Sevgi means Love, Ada means Island and Leyla is someone with their head in the clouds… The show is soapy for sure but I thought this was a well thought detail..

We just finished it and we were impressed. How the characters past generations trials and tribulations are revealed was a little farfetched but it actually worked! We also had extra interest as we live in the area of Istanbul you can see portrayed AND, we have spent summers in Ayvalık where the girls stayed together. As you can imagine it is an absolutely beautiful place to stay, with the very best olives! Just for anyone interested the Turkish name of the series, Zeytin Ağacı means Olive Tree. I do recommend the series and I recommend Ayvalık to anyone. It's actually the place we're thinking of retiring to when we finish our working life! It's also famous for the tastiest grapes!! Excellent review Chris. Thank you! I recommend if you can, use the original language and the subtitles, gives a better feel to it. I do know Turkish pretty well though so don't need to read the subs so much, and for some the dubbing might be better. Just a tip!

Sounds like a mental health roadblock - for some thirty-somethings, who *can actually* getaway, and go for spiritual insight? LOL! I'd be jealous that this people could afford to do that in beautiful, serene locations too!

Can anyone explain to me what was in the letter that Sevgi read on her wedding night from her mother say exactly… I just didn’t get it
@brianmsahin
@brianmsahin 2 жыл бұрын
Hi from Turkey, Helen!! . Ok, I will try to explain! The letter that Sevgi was reading was about a young girl who was girlfriend to a man called Aram, an Armenian. She was going to marry him, but unfortunately he was killed during a political conflict. She was pregnant and in order to save her from the difficulty of being a single mum at the time, a friend of Aram married her. The girl turns out to be Muko, Sevgi's mum and the child was Sevgi herself. You might remember Sevgi as a child witnessing who she thought was her real father being killed at the Carnival by a loan shark over a debt . The idea was to just scare him, but the guy killed him accidentally and regrets it. Reading the letter was the moment Sevgi discovered her mum's secret that this man she witnessed being stabbed was not really her dad. One of her personal issues was that, eveb though she was just a child, she felt that in some way she was responsible for his death. I hope that clears it up a little bit!

This is an existing spiritual technique in Hungary for decades. It's called family setup. There are some key differencies from the series. Most of the cases it is longer process. It is correct that after this kind of session you need a month to process the therapy, but more than one session is needed to enhance your life. Also, one session is usually longer. Not just 5 minute as in the series. Maybe, you dont need more than 5-6 people, because all the people should have the opportunity to set up 1-2 situations from their family. Not all people are able to feel and talk about the past lifes so easily. It needs practice and some work on your intuitions. A lot depends on the therapist(s). How can he work with the energies. Not everyone is suitable for it. Anyway. It is an existing technique and it can dig up forgotten shit from your family tree. But if you get to know this, you can start to release it slowly. From shit you can produce fertilizer and you can bloom.
@brianmsahin

That is very interesting background information. Thanks for that. I suppose in the context of a TV drama they couldn't spend too much time on the sessions but interesting to know this!

@@subhajitmandal8373 The Innocents is great and disturbing. It's on VOD right now, but coming to Shudder very soon. Brian and Charles is a wonderful and sweet comedy. I really enjoyed You Won't Be Alone (quiet and dark horror). Space Sweepers and The Wandering Earth are both excellent sci-fi films, but different in their themes (both should be on Netflix too). Major Grom Plague Doctor is a fun Russian action film. If you've not seen it, RRR (on Netflix now) is a wild ride and epically good. Some others that are more mainstream are Belfast, Parasite, and City of God. Hope this list helps!!

@@MoviesAndMunchies i watched innocents after getting recommendation from your video and honestly was totally blown away. By far one of the best movies I saw this year. (Maybe second best) I genuinely thought it showed how to make a superhero horror. God the tension and the terror.... it was something else. I watched it around the time when doc strange was on news and was talked about for its horror elements could not help but compare the two. Watched wandering Earth thought it was pretty good! Interesting concepts. Will try next of your recommendations and let you know. Really Thanks for your suggestion! Especially innocents what a gem of a movie!
