Top notch diagnosis. Appreciate smoke test methodology that I can use too. Jack puts other garages and mechanics to shame with his honesty and professionalism.

Just goes to show that understanding diag and knowing how important that is, it seems that that shop would rather hide the customer than actually try and fix anything. What a difference honestly makes in the auto shop business.

Excellent video with a great step-by-step diagnosis procedure that was clearly explained. I do most of my own maintenance and watch a LOT of mechanics on YT, and I have to say that your videos are among the best! Your clear explanations of "why" and "how" things are done is invaluable to the weekend mechanic. Keep up the great work!

I have the same problem with my 2001 Nissan Altima. Misfire on cylinder 3. I changed plugs ,distributor cap, rotor button, checked for vacuum leaks. It runs rough while idling, but runs smooth going down the road. It’ll drop rpm to 700 and misfire in park at idle. Can’t figure it out.

I’m thinking it’s probably a plugged injector. But they have rusty phillips headed screws holding them in. I think the injector screws are stripped at the head. I haven’t looked yet. I might have to get a tap set to get them out.

Do you have a scan tool? I would double check the fuel trims to make sure it’s not running lean or rich at idle. To test a fuel injector, I would do an injector drop test, although that requires some special tools. If the injector checks out good, I would start looking into a mechanical issue by doing a compression test, leak down test, and head gasket test. The only problem is, if you don’t already have the tools and knowledge to run these tests, it can be expensive paying someone else to do it.

@@jackhfletcher yes I have the tools. I do have a scan tool. I’ll check the fuel trims first to see. Thanks for the heads up. Love your channel by the way. Very knowledgeable 👍👍👍

Great job. I do however understand that some facilities will choose not to go the JB weld route based on management decisions.

Well, you run the risk of a comeback, he did a thorough job cleaning the area, so hopefully that won't happen, but it could, that's the risk for the shop

All that work/time should cost more than $150 in this economy

So is $150 the total that you charged the customer for?
