Apparently, this was one of four “Star Wars” ripoff movies that its director (Alfonso Brescia) made in the same year, the others being “Cosmos: War of the Planets,” “Battle of the Stars” and “Star Odyssey.” On another note, you’re the second KZbinr to cover this movie I’ve seen, the first being Brandon Tenold of Brandon’s Cult Movie Reviews fame, and Brandon has said that this is the worst movie he’s ever reviewed in two separate lists of his worst movies.

Ah, Alfonso Bracia. We were gifted by him with a total of four movies that were pretty much the same thing. But for some reason, this is the movie that gets the most hate. Beats me as to why. Also, "Hell comes to Frogtown" which stars Rowdy Roddy Piper and came out the same year that he starred in "They Live." It's bad, but good, but weird... I actually own a copy of this movie on it's original VHS release. I bought it along with a bunch of other random B-movie science fiction and fantasy films, from a video store when it closed down and was selling it's tapes. The movie IS boring, but it DOES have it's moments. The death scenes of the alien robot guys with the silly wigs are amazingly funny. None of them knew how to pretend to be shot. I remember at least one grabbing near his crotch and dying. The thing that always had me in stitches was the crew member with the cowboy boots. I wasn't prepared for seeing him wearing the boots with his space suit. And then... there's every damn time he speaks. This movie was definitely dubbed into English by Italian voice actors. Listening to the guy doing that crew member's voice just tripping and falling over that accent is hilarious. It was an Italian voice actor, who was trying to speak English, and on top of that was trying really hard to do a thick Southern drawl, and failing at both. Every time he talked he had me laughing.

When I was in university, I took a cinema course as an elective. Our professor was someone who, among other things, worked as a voice actor. For some reason, Indian movies had become very popular in our country in the 1980s, but strangely, everything about them seemed very ridiculous-the plot, the dialogues, etc. According to our professor, these films would arrive without any translation. Since no one knew Hindi, they would watch the movie, make up a plot based on the scenes, and then write and record dialogues accordingly. Naturally, with limited time and budget, the result was hilarious dialogues. Could something similar be the case in these films as well?

The original Italian dialogue was *for sure* as inane and incoherent as the English dub. It was great to recognise several voice actors from other films like The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, Suspiria, and other Italian film of the time! There was even a voice like Lucio Fulci's in The Beyond, but in this one the southern accent was way worse. There were some interesting ideas with this, especially all the political drama, but wow did they drop the ball repeatedly with things happening in any interesting or even coherent way. Though I have to be honest, I found the aliens and even the robots far more sympathetic than any of the earth people. One person on the entire planet is the only person who knows how to stop a reactor from destroying the planet? At that point it's just letting nature take its course!
