My Cool Jack Son well to be honest he hasnt done anything that amazing. he's more of a character actor these days. and ya he cut his hand in that scene....but come on thats not actually his blood all over her face. but dont look to the oscars for good movies, lots of movies come out that are simply ignored by oscars ....meaning the oscars are nothing to keep an eye on really except for some generic recommendations

Peter O'Toole (nominated EIGHT times for best actor in a leading role) never won an Oscar in his long career. Deborah Kerr (nominated SIX times for best actress in a leading role) never won an Oscar. Gary Oldman received his FIRST Oscar nomination only in 2012 despite a decade-long career with many challenging, diverse roles. Great actors like Alan Rickman and Donald Sutherland never even received a nomination. So please stop bitching about the injustice of DiCaprio - a guy in his 30s with a long career ahead of him - not winning an Oscar. He's the biggest actor in Hollywood right now and Scorsese's new "muse". I'm sure he'll get over it. And ChokoboLP has got a point. He always had tough competition which often just simply was better than him. Imo the only time he should have won was for the Aviator, but given the fact that Jamie Foxx won for Ray (a film audiences loved), I'll doubt many people are pissed off about that.

Cryer24597 The final explosives refused to detonate so instead of getting on the bus right away, he fiddled with the detonator to actually get it to work while still keeping it in character. They had one chance to get it right so he had to get it to work, but instead of cutting he just stayed in character.

Cryer24597 It wouldn't be the first time a non explosive expert set off explosives. They're in charge of setting them in place, but who says they can't give the trigger to someone else as long as it's a safe distance? I don't see what's so wrong about believing it that you feel the need to ruin everyone's fun. Whether he really did it or not doesn't matter, it was a cool scene that POTENTIALLY was unscripted.

For me, the best improvised scene of all was David Tennant's "I don't want to go'. First of all, it wasnt in the script. He was supposed to look sad and then regenerate. In oe sooting he said the five words and the director decided to keep them. Second of all, because it wasnt only the doctor's words. David had been an enormous Doctor Who fan since he was a little boy and these words represent the actual feelings from David Tennant to the show. He didnt want his jorney on the show to end. It is the most emotional scene I've ever seen. Also, it's David Tennant, so. Yeah. that's that.

And that's why YOU will never be an actor, great or otherwise. They immerse themselves in the scene and become their characters. He was the master who saw it as his right to do whatever he damned well pleased, she was the slave who could do nothing but take it. Great work all the way around on the parts of both DiCaprio and Washington.

There is acting and there is acting. I've never seen Pacino or DeNiro feel the need to rub their bodily fluids on some unsuspecting fellow actor. An actor needs to feel free to give of themselves. Being selfish does not mean you are a good actor.

Two of the best improvised movie scenes I'm kind of disappointed wasn't in this list: Jack Sparrow's "I've got a jar of dirt" singing scene from Pirates of the Caribbean. Johnny Depp made up the song on the spot, so the confused reactions of the actors around him were genuine. Another scene is the Joker blowing up the hospital from the Dark Knight. The explosives on-set did not work at first, so Health Ledger improvised by hitting at the remote control Joker was using to blow up the hospital, which was still pretty in-character for the Joker. I suppose animated voice acting would not be counted, but two improvised voice acting that made it into the final cut I remember was the hula dance scene from Lion King, with the voice actor for Timon improvising the line "What do you want me to do? Dress in drag and do the hula?" as well as the song. Another scene would be the beginning part from Aladdin with the merchant. Robin Williams also voiced the merchant, and most of his lines when he introduced his wares were improvised.

2 Harry Potter ones I know of are both in the Chamber of Secrets. When Mr. Malfoy says "Let us hope that Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Harry replys with "I will be" which was improvised by a 12 year old!! I heard that this one was improvised but I'm not positive. It was when Harry and Ron used polyjuice potion to turn into Crabbe and Goyle and they were searching for the Slytherin common room. Harry forgot he had his glasses on and Malfoy found them and said "You wear glasses?" and Harry said "for reading" and Malfoy's line was improvised.. "I didn't know you could read" LOL

***** Malfoy's line to Harry was ad-libbed, as actor Jason Isaacs felt the way the scene was scripted didn't fit his character. IIRC, Radcliffe didn't know in advance what Isaacs was going to say and had to ad-lib his response on the spot. Not an iconic improv, but not shabby for a 12 year old.

Regarding the Blade Runner ad lib: you left out the deepest moment of that scene. After he says, "All of these moments are lost in time," you cut out where he continues, "like tears, in rain." THAT WAS THE REAL TEAR-JERKER MOMENT IN THE SCENE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe you left out the most important part of that metaphor!!!!!!!!!!!

If that DiCaprio one is true, wiping actual blood in that girls face? That's down right dangerous and disrespectful. Did she also clap after the scene was over? Get outta here on that mess. Ain't no acting that serious to actually risk blood born pathogens over a 2 minute scene in a $2 movie.

That DiCaprio scene in Django was improvised? What?!
@poeticpotato

Not quite. It was all scripted, but the blood smear was not. He injured himself and used it to get a genuine reaction out of his fellow actors.

+Batman It was scripted that he slam his hand on the dining table but he accidentally slammed it on broken glass and cut himself, instead of stopping the scene he continued acting and added the blood smear with his actual blood. Brilliant.

So many comments complaining about DiCaprio's blood-smear scene.... Guys, what the hell... You do realize the actress COULD STOP THE SCENE if she wanted? The fact that she played along means that you are all bitching for nothing. What DiCaprio did there is the epitome of good acting. He lived his character!

The only movie i felt DiCaprio should have gotten an Oscar for was in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, I usually don't like it when actors portray people who are special needs because it's either really offensive or extremely exaggerated, and I'm not really a fan of Leo's work but he does an amazing job in this film. It's the one film where I can honestly say nobody could have played that role better, he definitely did fantastic in that film and he deserves all the praise he gets for that role

Can't believe The Usual Suspects was only an honorable mention. It is one of the best improve scenes ever. Every time I watch the movie the lineup scene is replayed at least 5 times.
