I found a slower mate in 3. If you move the Rook to g5 you can play Rh5 next move if the opponent promotes thus forcing them to take back with the Queen they made, and you can capture back with your Queen and it's mate. If they do literally anything else RH5 is still mate.
@Herbalist-athari11 ай бұрын

I found mate in 24 with Qf5, allowing me to quite easily win the promoted pawn, take the C pawn, slowly win the G pawn, force a rook trade, and then it's just a basic king/queen checkmate from there. No idea if that same line could have been played faster but I did win, and that's what counts.

Tried solving it before clicking on the thumbnail and it's a really good puzzle! I was baited into thinking it was too simple because of Qf5 before I noticed the black pawn on h2, and from there it took me toying with a few other ideas before finally noticing the winning play!

Hi Mikael Yes I do , White rook to G1 - Forces black pawn to G1 and takes white rook -- Now black pawn ( Queen ) is out of H colum Allowing White Queen moves to H5 - Checkmate Even if black pawn moves to H1 - White rook moves to H1 and it is still check mate in 2 moves ,,,,,,,,,, Your Welcome -- Brian -- Vancouver 👍

I got a mate, but not in 2 1. Qf5 If Black promotes, then 2. Rg1+ Black can extend the game by g6 3. Rh1xQ+ Mate in one from that position

@FloatingOer11 ай бұрын
I found R g5, if black promotes you check with the rook on h5, black Q takes the rook and white recaptures and mates. Rh5 cannot be stopped and will lead to a mate no matter what black do. Though it's 3 moves and not 2 like in the title which I couldn't see.
@MurderMostFowl11 ай бұрын
I honestly never would’ve seen this, except that you insisted it was mate in 2 . I have seen a mate in 3 described in the comments as well but I’m non-optimal most of the time and would have done Rh6 ( forcing the take by Black King ) then Qxg8. Regardless of whether black promotes the pawn at h2, do Qh8 to force the king out of the way and take the (promoted) pawn and then You mop up the rest and set up your king to move in for a checkmate. A long route but a win nevertheless. ( I think! It’s late lol )
@GetMeThere110 ай бұрын
I think rook to g5 also works well, except if black promotes it becomes mate in 3 -- all other moves are mate in 2.

same here, you sacrifice the rock because the back of its head looks like a-- sorry, red notice reference. Let the Pawn take the WWE superstar, and queen move diagonal to H5, Mate. If the pawn ignores Agent Hobbs and goes to H1, rook takes, and still mate. If black ignores the pawn and move their own scorpion king. Queen take pawn at G7 and mate. If black moves pawn to C5 (from C4, and thus not cheating), Queen to H5 is still mate.

Frankly, first I thought Rxg7, but after Rxg7 Qh5 isn't mate anymore because now Kg8 is possible. That's how I realized to move the rook away to threaten Qh5 with mate, while having a counter for h1=Q. And Rc8+ isn't possible due to the pawn on c6. Beautiful puzzle, every piece has a purpose!

Like the first reply, it's M3, and your notation is weird. Pawns are not notated by P, you just say h1=Q. To notate check, you suffix the move with "+", so Rh5+. You don't say "piece x piece", you say "piece x square", so Qxh5, Qxh5# ("#" meaning checkmate). But if that's how you like to notate your moves, I won't stop you.

I was interested in Qf5 too, because I love revealed checks. Unfortunately it leaves Black with a couple of options.
@neesel9 ай бұрын
Queen to f5 should work too. Black gets his queen at h1 but than white brings rook down at g1. Black king has to move and his queen is done and mate. Technically its in three moves. But still a good option?
@dudono174411 ай бұрын
Rook g1 is the play. If they take the rook, Queen to h5. If they promote, Rook to h1. If they move the Rook, Queen to g7. If they move the pawn on the left, Queen to h5.
@richardknouse61811 ай бұрын
Rh6 almost works except that the king can take it. That leads to Qf4, KH5, Qxp which leads to continuous check as the queen walks the king back up the board.

If you do that move then they can just move their rook somewhere to the left leaving room for their king to escape the check on next turn. Or they could just take your rook with their king which also gives their king space to escape on the next turn.
