To be fair, Ness' work only got put to the side because the feds decided that the tax evasion charge was easier to substantiate and more likely to result in prison time.

I've heard that the mob would tip off The Untouchables about minor bootlegging operations to distract them and The Untouchables would tell the press for a photo-op. I don't believe The Untouchables made any major arrests. I find it ironic Elliot Ness turned into a alcoholic.
