I was at Essendon with older brother and father to watch the Ansett and TAA 727’s arrive back in 64! Ansett was a fantastic Airline, probably the best Australia had in its original ownership!

I remember being gobsmacked as a child in the 60's when I saw a 727 at Adelaide airport. In those days it was possible to stand at a gate right next to the tarmac where you could greet the passengers, in this case where we met Mum who'd just flown back from Melbourne. Such an innocent time.

David please let me know if you’d like the copy of this that made Ansett News video - I just converted it to DVD the other day and it’s just gone up On an Ansett Facebook page. Knew your dad he was a lovely bloke - my dad was the second one in the video talking about the 727 - he worked with and knew your dad too. Cheers - James

history will tell us Australia did the right thing by rejecting the trident in favor of the 727 when it came time to join the jet age domestically in the 60's.

The first jet aircraft I ever flew in back in 1965. I used to love watching the flaps open on approach to landing. I don't think I've seen an aircraft since with such an amazing leading and trailing flap configuration or such a beautiful wing, with maybe the exception of the 787. Wonderful aircraft.

+Crosshead1 Back in the 70s I read an interview by a Boeing engineer (will never recall who it was after so many decades) saying the 727 wing was by far the most aerodynamically advanced wing that Boeing ever built, and that they didn't expect to put that much effort into an airliner wing ever again.

I was on the first DC9/JET to land in Tasmania. Must have been 1967. Before that we had Viscounts and Electra and F-27s. Use to work for Reg, '81-'88. B727 started in 1965. Reg sadly died Christmas 1981. I remember as I got the telex off the machine at WX. A great pioneer in air travel!

Awesome. I did a 767 jump seat flight Melbourne to Coolangatta 1997. As I was a GA pilot at the time flying 172s the captain turned to me on takeoff from Tullamarine and said 'how do you like that for power', one of the highlights of my life. They were the days....

A beautiful Airline. I am proud to say I worked for them for over 23 Years. What a sad reflection that the Howard Government let it go and not be sold to Singapore Airlines, who had the money to put it back up there.

If anybody wants to see the cockpit if a real ex-Ansett 727, visit the Museum of Flying in Santa Monica, CA where it can be seen in the colors of FedEx. They offered the entire A/C, but there was no room, so they settled for the most important part. It's a huge hit with the kids.

Australia domestically had it not been for REG ANSETT would have had it's first domestic jet planes in the form of the caravelles in 1959 as per what TAA wanted and they fight back with say a convair 880/990 till later 727's were available.it's unfortunate when the rest of the world went the jet age in 1958/1959 we had to wait 5 years.

I have an AN 727 cockpit view DVD of a 1990 Perth/ Melbourne flt. When introduced, the aircraft was unhindered by ATC or fuel economy restrictions. This allowed the 727 to climb at 300 knots, descend at 350 & cruise at Mach .82 or higher. Very slippery beast.
