i have been an alcoholic from a very young age, first it started out being fun..couple of beers with friends. 30 years later iam just starting to realize iam an alcohol addict. i cant sleep,meet with people or feel like i can be myself without alcohol. developed a social anxiety starting with me realizing i have the shakes. alcohol is the worst! iam at a point,being 41,where i have to decide will i have "fun" 10 more years and end up either being dead or needing care or will i take responseability for my life and quit the poison. your recovery, brendon is a huge inspiration to me and iam sure many others. iam so happy for you being sober for as long as you have been. you have gone through hell and emerged as your true self. perhaps one day i can muster the courage to find myself and show a big fat finger to the poison that is alcohol. much love from germany my man!

People tend to have their preference. It also depends on the group that goes to that specific meeting. There is also SOS for people that do not want a spiritual aspect. There is always a place for everyone. Do not give up. You will find the right meeting, group, outpatient, inpatient, detox, clinic etc. There is always a possibility out there and something else to try

I like some AA meetings but some of them they are very strict and only wanna hear about alcohol so that's why I prefer NA cuz they consider everything ba drug even alcohol so you feel more free and open to talk...but I do have one AA group I go to that they are all very welcoming and have the same philosophy that drugs and alcohol are one in the same...I wanna try alanon and there was heroin anonymous I found online but haven't found any in my area and also smart recovery and if your religious celebrate recovery meetings are amazing

I love your story your such an inspiration in rehab they let us watch your documentary and I've done alot of things I'm not proud of either but your story really touched me I have had relapses but I still keep trying one day at a time...so just wanted to thank you for sharing your life...I will be watching every video you put out and in the documentary we watched you said you were writing more books so I definitely can't wait for those as well...much love and keep up the good work you literally touch and help more ppl than you know! There's was only one person in the rehab that wasn't in tears by the end of your story ❤️ and that one person wasn't ready they were only their to appease their family and the rest of us tried our hardest to give encouraging words but at the end of the day we can only do so much and we gotta guard our recovery as well but I can't wait to get to the point of being in recovery long enough that I can be a recovery coach or therapist

AA. The NA book is a lot to take in your first time in recovery
@kevthecuck6253 жыл бұрын
I'm in AA and im a huge believer that whatever works for you works for you. I can speak for my close network of peers in AA that they also feel the same. We have more people who were hooked on drugs or drugs and alcohol in AA than people who are just recovering from Alcohol. We have people come in who say "Hello I'm ..... and im an addict and they are welcomed with open arms. Ive been to about 10 NA meetings in the last 4 years and every single time I was cross talked for not using the right lingo. "You can't say this here, you can't be saying that" I say im an alcoholic and the whole room scoffs. For a newcomer that can be mortifying and the extreme can be fatal. This video as proper as they come and I think if you can become open minded there is a lot to learn from it. You put it brilliantly said. We all fight the same fight and we all have the same solution, it would be nice for everyone to be on board with that.
@ChillinwithJanel3 жыл бұрын
Crazy cuz I've had the same experience with AA where they will stop you and tell you only alcohol is allowed to be talked about if you have issues with other drugs than go to NA needless to say I've never went back to that group but I've found AA and NA meetings I love but the best meetings I ever went to were the ones In rehab cuz they were literally our meetings no staff just our peers and literally we all looked forward to that hour everyday and it was cool cuz we would switch every other day would be AA and next day was NA although no matter what we were all free to talk about whatever with no judgement and at the end of every meeting because they would be at night before bedtime we would always end on a positive note wether it be one thing we are greatful for or if someone had contact with a family member or friend that wanted nothing to do with them but can literally hear the change in our voices I must say I miss that and definitely haven't found an outside meeting quite like it but hopefully one day I can have my own meetings ❤️
@jonathanstache16343 жыл бұрын
Yeah I’ll mention my drug addiction in AA meetings and nobody says anything but I introduce myself as an alcoholic first and foremost. I would recommend AA to any drug addict. Sometimes you can come across some old timers that might give you a hard time if you don’t say you’re an alcoholic but at the end of the day you’re all there for the same disease. Also in my city at least drug dealers like to hang out around NA meetings or pose as people in recovery to gain customers so I was actually told in rehab to just stick to AA

I've been clean for 3 years of opiates but I can't seem to get the same resistive mindset with booze and then coke and weed. I understand the goal is to stay clean and sober. It shouldn't matter how you get there, who you use as your support, any of it, the most important thing of course is to get clean and sober. Okay so lets talk about some major bull shit real quick. In my experience, I knew a lot of people that were hardcore drug addicts, real bad, and alcohol was not a thing to them at all. Many of them couldn't stand alcohol. But for some reason when they decided to get clean, they attended AA, not NA. So they would walk around, introduce themselves, "Hello, my name is Brian and I am an alcoholic". But it's a load of shit, you're not an alcoholic, you're a fucking drug addict. And in my opinion, the reason they decided to go about it through AA instead of NA is because of societal acceptability. Being an alcoholic or drug addict isn't good either way, but society will still look at someone with an alcohol problem different than someone with a drug problem, and the person who admits to the drug problem gets frowned upon more than the alcoholic. Like why the fuck are you going to ALCOHOLICS Anonymous when you are strictly a drug addict? It makes no sense. But you know what, I guess in the interest of bettering yourself, at least do one of them, even if you are lying to everyone.

Hey Brandon I am in the UK I know it's a huge distance but I don't know if I just need your advice before I carry on with my downward spiral to either one of 2 ways and I dread it because I have lost 2 of my children because I have been a heroin addict since 2008 I am an electrician and have quite a good job, where I am given so many chances by my friend, who is a ex user and knows just how hard it is to stay clean but he did it but now I am worried about him too. He has been taking a lot of cocaine and this is every day and I feel guilty for it because I got it for him a few times for parties now and again, but I ended up giving him the phone number and the rest is history. But I do try to keep him away considering what I do which is speed ball all the time in my groin which I am lucky to not have any major problems yet. Anyways I don't know how I would go about calling you from a mobile in the uk. And like I said I don't know what help you could be but just someone to just care and maybe just give me some advice might be more than enough to kick me up the ass and sort my life out. Anyway take care Brandon I hope you see this with how busy you are and so very proud of how far you have come and inspired so many people that you may have saved many lives or even just one but that is the best thing you can do And keep trying your hardest to be the person we all know you are I know things get hard sometimes but you seem to have done it. much love brother, mark blase

Tried to call the number you list all over “for help”. And no one answers. Also, since you started Banyan tx Centers it would be nice if this now corporate owned (same as the rest of these big rehab centers) hired Nurses in Recovery! It’s the recovery industry and they are just as bad as the rest of the medical community with judgement! I hope you read these comments! Bcz you missed out on a great Nurse who would of been an asset to Banyan. Sad
@ChillinwithJanel3 жыл бұрын
It's harder to be a nurse if you have felonies or adduction issues not saying it isn't possible because that's always been my dream to be an RN and I feel it's possible but it's gonna be a long road of very hard work...my other option is being a recovery coach and eventually an addiction specialty therapist cuz who better than someone whose been there and can completely understand and sympathize with everything you been and are going through my therapist in rehab was a recovering heroin addict and literally I never in a years would have guessed that if he didn't tell me some of his story and no he didn't act better than anyone it's just the way he carried himself and I never thought being an addict there were so many careers you can get if you want it just takes extra work and jumping through alot of hoops but he's a firm believer in naltrexone shots he said that's what saved his life he got 28 shots total and now he doesn't take anything and said the few times he might get an urge or craving it's there for a second in his mind but he literally said he will be like eh I'm good on that and just like that the craving is gone
