My engagement party is this weekend and I totally get the plus one incident. I straight up said no plus ones on the invite as I didn’t want people who’ve I’ve only met once coming. Im a people pleasure so this was really hard for me at first but I’m so glad my fiancé and I chose to do that. Also, it stops issues at the party if certain people are allowed to bring someone and others couldn’t. Have fun with your engagement party, looking forward to hearing about it next podcast :)

As a person who studies the brain for a living, i can say that there are certain parts of the brain that does create new cells through a process called neurogenesis. This mostly happens in brain regions such as the hippocampus (long term memory and spatial navigation) and amygdala (known for emotions) But for the most part, number of brain cells does decrease over time! LOVE that you have a whiskey sour as a drink. For our wedding he did his and her cocktails. My husband's was a whiskey sour and mine was a G&T- originally an old fashioned but we thought we should have a non bourbon option. Also in regards to a plus one, we went by the rule that the person we wanted had to have been with their significant other for a reasonable amount of time like a year or we had to have met them before. We also didn't allow kids except for the kids in the wedding. Mainly because my brother had kids and so did my husband's close cousins, so we had them be flower girls and ring bearers to get away with it without offending anyone.

I think it's very true and can be helpful to learn your partner's "fight language" or basically how they typically behave during conflicts

Lol the absolute DREAD I felt dealing with people wanting a plus one! We literally had the number of people the invite was for on it and STILL had someone tell their partner of like 3 months that they could come without asking, then pestering us to let them come til we caved. So much more went into it and all for them to break up not too long after.

For my wedding, we included a line on the invite that said “we have reserved ______ seat(s) in your honor for our wedding!” That way we were able to say exactly how many people were invited from that one invite. ❤

My husband and I planned our wedding last year and we went through the same wedding invitation stress. We were stressed about people who didn't have a plus one bringing a plus one and sure enough it happened. Luckily we had the space and we're able to give the venue our final count 10 days prior and there are always people who don't show the day of. But it was extremely frustrating for us because people don't have etiquette and they just assume they are getting a plus one without asking.
