FAST FORWARD TO THE Q&A: 09:28
Floor Plan Drawing: 09:43
Timberline Sawmill: www.timberline...
We're taking a short break from the cabin build this week to knock out some side jobs on the homestead and answer your cabin questions!
We did a Q&A a while back with some more stories about us as well, which can be found here: • Cabin Talk | Our Futur...
The weather is getting ready to be a big problem for our commuting to and from our current cabin to our property. And Levi's parents are visiting Colorado so this week we took a step in a different direction to knock out a couple other projects. It was very nice to take a break from the rush of cabin building and take some time to answer a few questions!
Hopefully, the snow melts quickly and we can be driving to the property in a truck and before long living there! Things will really be on the move when we no longer have to spend time getting ready for work and driving there every day. Especially by snowmachine AND truck!
AS ALWAYS, thank you so much to each and every viewer. We truly couldn't do it without you all and appreciate the support so much.

Make sure you add your name to the list for people needing to receive road kill moose and so forth. It can be helpful during the frozen months for sure

Henry is so precious. Seems like he lets you get a lot of work done. Nice work bench, it will help keep all your tools organized. So is the cabin you are living in a guest cabin? Did levi's Dad build both cabins on the property? It's nice to know you have family close by.

Levi's parents bought their cabins already built! They're about 20 years old now. Which has been great because there's a lot of little things we can take note of for how to do our cabin. And yes, we are currently in their guest cabin. 🥰

Becca To make for easy pealing put one end up on a sawhorse then your not going to cut your knee ! Great work space you made in the conx , Levi your building skills are awesome the cabin will be beautiful :) I use a big hoe to dig as deep as i could then dropped my sand point in , Had water but works great for the cabin just can't drink, a lot of iron & sodium, RV pump with check valve 3feet below pump & foot valve on the bottom, Hope this helps :) You guys have done an awesome job & working around Henry while you do it !

Becca, I hope you will take this as a good comment, not a mean judgemental comment. Your plants need lots of airflow, and it strengthens them. I have over 1400 plants going in my living room and dinningroom, and I have 4 fans going. It really strengthens their stems and branches. I planted my seeds March 27, and 29th, and my tomatoes are about 8 inches tall now. You all are really coming along on your cabin, and property. I wish I had known Levi needed a workbench I have a very sturdy one I would of given him. Henry is adorable! He is a very happy baby.

Sorry got interrupted...we had 2 lg freezers for meat, fish, etc when we lived up there. If you plan on trapping you need freezers to keep hides etc. This is going to take power and freezer space. Maybe you're planning on a storage shed. You didn't mention that I don't think. Hope it all works out for you...have fun.❤❤

Hey Becca and Levi. Glad you got them. I JUST bought my next seeds from rare seed (they’re not rare as in rare rare lol, they’re just much better quality of seeds). I kinda gave you what I had leftover 🤪🤪. I put a few other seeds in my cart for you guys so once I get them I’ll send them also. I’m about 3 years ahead of you Becca and that’s not saying much. Some stuff I have great luck with, others- not so much lol

As for Spinach (well, on Long Island lol) I start from seed inside for a few weeks then transfer into ground etc. they’re pretty hearty so I imagine you could go right I to the ground especially bc you have a space issue inside. Also I know you guys are not using a lot of plastic , but if you know anyone that is, tell them to save their water bottles. Like your container, I even use the small water bottles and cut them in half. I stab a few holes and that’s what I use to grow inside.

Depending on your area..... would a wind turbine be an option? I know you said maybe generator days..... but multiple butt covering options is never a bad thing 😅.

Fortunately we don't have much wind in our area so it wouldn't be very cost-effective.

HELLO LITTLE ALASKAN FAMILY You 2 are doing a great job as a team building your home & clearing your property. I do have some good advice Becca please try not to lift or carry move such heavy items. Honey I’m 62 & worked like a man when I was younger. Now my body has shown signs I over did it I have BAD MEDICAL ISSUES NOW. Darling you already have done to much since little Henry has been born. Please take care of your body . GOD only gives us one & well I worked mine way too hard. Just to let you know when you said a drilled well is around $8,000.00 in your Area of Alaska. I was like THAT IS REALLY CHEAP. Here in Central Indiana a drilled water well starts at about $15,000.00 & most wells hit water from 65-125 feet with good drinking water. Iron is an issue & so is sulfur smells like rotten eggs. THANK GOD WE HAVE GOOD WATER. I know you know this but please have your water tested. You never know what ground contamination has soaked in. Who knows what was on that land 100 years ago with the ALASKAN Gold Rush. GOD BLESS from West Central Indiana Farmland

Have you thought of running a water pipe up from the lake at least for the warm months. We do it in Ontario up north with all the cottages/houses Then you can filter it under the house and you might be able to use it for drinking and cooking as well. I can’t remember but did you put in some kind of water tank under the house deck?? A holding tank of some kind could be used as well. Just thoughts. ❤❤ glad the snow is finally melting for you and you can really get back to your building. Enjoy. 🎉🎉

For now, we are going to do a 55-gallon drum under the kitchen counter but plan to do something bigger in the future. We need to look into local regulations, but it would definitely be an option to pump from the pond!

We were originally going to do carpet in the loft, but it's going to be a beautiful tongue and groove, so we'll leave that exposed. Then we'll do a vinyl plank flooring downstairs.

@beccanlevisalaska
@beccanlevisalaska 5 ай бұрын
We're going to have at least one freezer and plan to do a whole lot of canning for now! But yes, we will do a lot of moose hunting, dip netting for salmon, and there are a good amount of black bears in our area. The black bear limit is 5 per person! We don't have caribou locally but will probably do trips North for them every so often. ☺️

We have two dogs! They just haven't been in videos at the property lately since we can't drive them back and forth right now. It would be a 10-mile run round trip, and they're getting too old for those runs. Once we move to the property in the camper, they'll be stars in the videos again. ☺️
