When I was a kid our family had two piggies. When the family came home from work and school, the piggies were allowed to freeroam. Instead of grabbing them from the cage, we always gently nudged them on someones hands and lifted them out of the cage. They learned that quickly and whenever soemeone of us held out both hands, the piggies would hop on on their own.

Yeah, one of mine would do that too, except she taught herself and it was usually before we could even get our hands ON the ground... so she would jump over her 20cm fence straight into our hands - you had to always keep an eye on her because she'd do it whether you were ready or not!

From what I understand, guinea pigs are herbivores who are "hind-gut fermenters", not unlike horses. So they most likely can and do fart. Pretty sure I've heard it too hahaha

They have a lot of roughage in their diet. My piggles always prefer the leaves of celery mostly and the tops of strawberries and partial to watermelon when it is very hot to help cool them down only occassionally.

I love these videos - the piggies get up to such antics in the background sometimes! One of my old guinpigs used to jump into my hands! My old guineapigs had two cage areas which they would be manually transferred between. An enclosed outside cage on that days patch of grass, and a smaller indoor area they would be in for the evenings. These four piggies didnt HATE to be picked up (read: usually tolerated... mostly) but of course the two that we raised from birth were better with it than their mothers, except in one special circumstance. Every morning I would pick them up out of their house cage to take them outside, and 90% of the time Bea would jump into my hands, often without prompt, and if I took too long to pick her out of the transfer box, she would jump over the side and be a free range piggy! Thankfully she never ran away. This would happen only in the mornings for tranfer, and only ever for me. One of the biggest personalities and most athletic pig I've ever had.

I'm mortified at how we kept our guinea pigs when I was a kid. We didn't have hay for them and they sat on newspaper. We just didn't know any better. There's so much great information out there now. It’s nice seeing your face! 💕. I always wondered if guinea pigs enjoy lap ti:e? We took in 2 two year old males… one likes lap time and will eat his veggie treats then promptly lay down and fall asleep… the other is much more skittish… he lets me pet him once on my lap and will sit and eat his treat.. but he never looks chilled out… but I still do take him out like once a week for a very short lap time… I think it’s good for him to get used to being handled.. and helps me when it’s time to trim his nails, clean his ears, etc. they sure are characters..

I don’t think they are the most because i’ve heard of a few animals that are the same. I’m not fully sure but I think sea turtles might take that spot because they are born without their mothers and when they hatch they immediately go into the water and live alone while a guinea pig still needs their mothers milk

I don’t have guides pigs, but I assume that if you sit on the floor and the piggies climb on you... they’ll be much calmer, knowing that the floor is only a few inches away, than if you pick them up from floor level and carry them through the air.. which also increases the risk of dropping them!!

As long as there isn't blood being shed it's ok. Make sure the cage is super clean before you introduce both piggies to it. Or first introduce them to a new area. So no one has any marked territory. I keep my guys on sperate sides of the c and c cage so they feel like they have their own territory space without feeling super crowded. Just keep an eye on them and don't interfere too much

Hi! A few weeks ago my guinea pig passed away but I still had a guinea pig that lived with her left. I don’t want her to get lonely because guinea pigs are herd animals so I adopted a New Guinea pig but when I introduced them to each other, they fought so much that I had to seperate them. If you don’t see blood or bite marks then keep bonding them. Keep in mind that the bonding process should be in a play pen with a hay pile in the center. Also keep in mind that the bonding process will include nipping, chasing, ignoring, and things similar to this. I recommend watching @autumns piggies on youtube because she recently had a failed female bonding and a successful female guinea pig bonding so it could probably help you and teach you some tips

I feel ya. 2 months ago this situation happened to one of my male piggies. I didn't want to have to go through a similar situation so I adopted a guinea pig that was a similar age to him from a Rescue group. It was a little rough at first because they got along most of the time and then they were still working out the situation of who wants to be alpha. Half of the time neither wanted to be alpha but none liked being dominated either. One of the boys got overgroomed by the other. So I had to put their huts on opposite sides of the c and c cage. The over grooming stopped. (Thank god because my boy was getting a naked hiney). Right now they get along. They are not so much lovey dovey to where they can cuddle each other. But stay close to each other. For example Gizmo only let's Churro be close to him if he just stays outside of his hut but not closer. Guinea pigs have different personalities. Boars are harder to bond than females.( Or so I've heard) it takes some time. There have been times I've wanted to separate the two but I had to let them figure out the heirchey. I hope this info helps when bonding.

At my dads we have 3 guinea pigs the third got sick quickly and we had to seperate them so now we have one lone guinea pig and a pair of pigs but our lone one gets a lot of attention we will find a way to bring them back together at some point if possible but she absolutely love sitting on my shoulder while I’m laying on my bed she is so sweet and is a teddy pig love her loads also have a lone 5 year old piggy at my mums (his partner passed away not long ago) he is very fat but really not as active since is friend passed away and we can’t get another one…

Yes, one of my guinea pigs farted a few times once, but he had a gas situation at the time, so it is not usual. None of my other piggies have ever farted, but Joe definitely did! He is prone to digestive issues.

@@kyy6136 No guinea pigs aren’t happy alone if someone says they are then they probably don’t know a lot about guinea pigs. If you travel a lot and don’t have space you should re-home your guinea pig. It’s hard but it’ll be better for the guinea pig. It’s not fair for the guinea pig to be alone in a small space always traveling.

Guinea pigs are sweet little snugglers. Some are licky pigs. Lumi isa very special pig. I haven’t been able to eat iceberg lettuce since I had my gall bladder removed. Therefore I don’t buy it. It is Romaine only.

I have two Guinea pigs that are ~1 year old, so I have a while till I need to worry, but what should I do when one dies? (I know it’s not a nice thing to think about but I feel it’s important to know) Is the other okay to live on his own for however long he would have left? Should I just give him a lot more attention? They live next to their rabbit friend (separated by their cage, except during play time (they love playing with her)), but as you said that isn’t a suitable replacement. If the remaining guinea pig is dying (get that information from a vet) then you don’t really need to get a second one but if the remaining one is not dying and still has a while before it should pass then definitely get a younger piggie of the same sex so that they aren’t alone because as you know humans or any other species will never be a suitable replacement

Ok this is a true story. My Arrow pig had just had his nails clipped and my husband was getting his treat. I was holding him so his booty was in my hand. I was holding him just right so the poo area was squished together and loud audible "fart" noises were heard. If a piggie sits a certain way or lays down a certain way I know this can be recreated in cage. Sorry for the slightly juvenile story.

You can try using Oxbow digestive support tablets , my piggies had this problem too and it really helped. Also give extra hay and plenty of water. I hope she gets better!

I believe 7.5 square feet minimum. But more is recommended. I’d say 10.5 square feet or more would be a good amount for your future guinea pigs to have a good life. Male guinea pigs need more room than females, so keep that in mind. Two female guinea pigs would need less room than two males. Guinea pig cages are big, so make sure you don’t get a hamster size cage or anything like that. I’m not an expert so I would recommend doing your own research instead of just relying on this information. But 10.5 square feet should be a good starting point 😄 I hope that helped

I agree with you wholeheartedly about the guinea pigs having partner, but in the case of my male, I had bought him a companion and he actually started losing wait and becoming super unhealthy and depressed being with another piggie, I rehomed the companion and now my baby boy is doing so much better he's going on 5 and wheaks for me every day! So I wouldn't say this is the norm, but it's not unheard of

I've just recently started getting into having guinea pigs, so this video helps a lot! I have one male, his name is Toast and I got a female for free from someone and I named her Jelly(bc yk, Toast and Jelly 😆) and they had 3 baby piggies who turned out larger than I expected, there was two boys and a girl, their names were Bandit, Biscuit and Cookie, and when they were old enough to sell I ended up trading Bandit for another female guinea pig, her name is now Marshmallow, she's fluffy while my male and other female have short hair. If any has any tips that could help me out I would appreciate it a lot! I've had interest in guinea pigs since the beginning of June which is when I got my male, so any information, whether new or old to me, would be greatly appreciated

Separate the males and females. You shouldn’t breed your guinea pigs or trade them. They aren’t objects or toys.

Please help my guinea pigs keep deep purring and slowly walking then my oldest (female) keeps jumping on my youngest (female) I separated them overnight but they keep doin it

I have a question piggie owners, so I just got a pig and I don't want to pay someone to trim her nails, what is the easiest way to get her to be still when I trim her nails?
