I really appreciate your honesty in answering the "professional work" question. It's nice to see someone so reflected. As someone coming from the "filmmaking on set" life, I'm often irritated by creators that call themselves filmmakers yet never done anything except their reviews. You're clearly king of the nerds (nothing but respect for that!) and that level of self awareness just makes it even more pleasant

Yeah I really liked that bit. It's nice to hear. Good call out @Gerald. I've had a several comments in my videos on my appearance ranging from looking like a serial killer to comments on my teeth to others. Coincidentally enough I just got scanned for invisiline (sp?) as well. I had braces as a kid, but for some reason some of my lower teeth have decided it's time to start migrating apart, so I figured why not, let's see how much this costs and how much insurance covers (turns out quite a lot). Anyway, I'm rambling. Love your content.

Great reminder about appearances. It’s easy to see why people comment (especially on changes). A lot of KZbin content is creator direct to camera. The face is the primary visual. And humans are programmed to notice change/differences. So I get why it is of interest and reflexive to comment on. But a gentle reminder that such comments can have consequences, however unintentional, is appreciated.

I wish Marques would take come cues here for his dialogue recording. His visual is astonishing but the dialogue recording is a mess. Gerald has one of the best sounding dialogue recording on KZbin.

@@djencode I agree. He uses an MKH416 - great microphone - but it would sound better if they added a little more acoustic treatment (bass traps, sound blankets) to the studio. It has a LOT of hard surfaces which reflect sound.

@@curtisjudd yea it sounds like he's recording in a cement wall bunker haha. And I don't know if it's his hvac or cameras (red are notoriously loud) but there is a very distracting fan noise as well. Noise reduction these days is super easy to do so it's a strange omission to not clean it up. It's like he just drops the audio directly into the timeline and does nothing to treat it at all. No eq, no compression, no de-verb, no noise reduction.

His audio seems to have improved in the most recent videos. Not sure whether they're using more acoustic treatment or more post, but seems cleaner.

As someone also mentioned in the comments, it's refreshing to see someone self-aware and honest about what they do and why. You're spot on with the 'filmmaker' term being tossed around, and often I find myself groaning at different youtubers during their videos (Like people complaining about no auto focus on an Alexa?)
